John 10:11-18

The good shepherd is one who lays down his life for his sheep

Jesus said:

‘I am the good shepherd:

the good shepherd is one who lays down his life for his sheep.

The hired man, since he is not the shepherd

and the sheep do not belong to him,

abandons the sheep and runs away

as soon as he sees a wolf coming,

and then the wolf attacks and scatters the sheep;

this is because he is only a hired man

and has no concern for the sheep.

‘I am the good shepherd;

I know my own

and my own know me,

just as the Father knows me

and I know the Father;

and I lay down my life for my sheep.

And there are other sheep I have

that are not of this fold,

and these I have to lead as well.

They too will listen to my voice,

and there will be only one flock,

and one shepherd.

‘The Father loves me,

because I lay down my life

in order to take it up again.

No one takes it from me;

I lay it down of my own free will,

and as it is in my power to lay it down,

so it is in my power to take it up again;

and this is the command I have been given by my Father.

    The Forth Sunday Of Easter, called as the Sunday of the Good Shepherd, diverts our sight onto Jesus Christ, who is the Eternal Priest and Confounder of the Holy Church. In the Gospel of John, Jesus expresses the words, that he is the real Shepherd, who is looking after for his sheep, he is the unblemished sacrifice for the redemption of the world, and the sheep may recognize the real voice of their Shepherd. 

 

This truth prompts us to the reflection, that Jesus is the Highest Priest and “the Owner of the Church”. Our Mother, the Community was created from his pierced side, where the water and blood were gushed from. 

 

The whole community of believers belongs to him. This is his Church; we are participants of it. 

 

The Sunday of the Good Shepherd was instituted by Pope Paul VI in 1964, as the day of the general prayer for the new vacation to the priesthood. The intention of the Pope is immersed into the need of those, who follow Christ and, in his name preach the Gospel and offer the Holy Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist and Confession. The heart of the Church is in the celebration of God’s Mysteries.

 

Where is the Eucharist and other sacraments, there is life of the Church. Every bishop, priest, deacon make the presence of the real God. No one can supply the priest at the altar, saying the words of consecration.   No one can take place of the priest in the confessional box, absolving sins and in his ministry of anointing of the sick. 

 

Good chooses those, who are the workers and servers of him, to flourish the Church and his people. From the point of me, I think so often, why God has chosen me, so mere and unworthy man. And I cannot find the answer. More likely, we may find the answers for everything in the eternity. 

God and the Mother of Church, Mary have this big concern to pray for new vacation, to be able to satisfy the spiritual and sacramental hunger of Christ. The history has shown many times, it is not so obvious, that everyone and every local Church has enough priest or at least a priest, who celebrates sacraments and preaches the Gospel. Today, there are unnumerable places, which have no priests, in Europe as well. In some places and parishes, the Holy Eucharist is not celebrated regularly, in two-week time, ones a month, or rarely. Those people are fated on an occasional service and the liturgy of the word and the receiving the Body of Christ without the proper Mass. 

 

Because of these circumstances, we are encouraged to pray for the new vacation to the priest in our Diocese and everywhere, starting to pray for the family, they would be a good background for young man, who are able to say, I follow you Jesus, I want to be your priest.

 

Thank you for your spiritual support and prayer for the priest and consecrated persons here and everywhere, let ask the Lord for the Holiness for his servers. Let us pray for Monsignor Mark Miles, on the day of his Ordination and for his new ministry in Benin and Togo. 

 

Jesus Christ, the Eternal Priest, renew the hearts of your priest in the Church. May they lead the people to your Kingdom. Amen.

Jezus powiedział: „Ja jestem dobrym pasterzem. Dobry pasterz daje życie swoje za owce. Najemnik zaś i ten, kto nie jest pasterzem, do którego owce nie należą, widząc nadchodzącego wilka, opuszcza owce i ucieka, a wilk je porywa i rozprasza. Najemnik ucieka dlatego, że jest najemnikiem i nie zależy mu na owcach. Ja jestem dobrym pasterzem i znam owce moje, a moje Mnie znają, podobnie jak Mnie zna Ojciec, a Ja znam Ojca. Życie moje oddaję za owce. Mam także inne owce, które nie są z tej owczarni. I te muszę przyprowadzić i będą słuchać głosu mego, i nastanie jedna owczarnia i jeden pasterz.    Czwarta Niedziela Wielkanocna, nazywana Niedzielą Dobrego Pasterza, kieruje nasz wzrok na Jezusa Chrystusa, który jest Wiecznym Kapłanem i Zbawicielem Świętego Kościoła. W Ewangelii Jana, Jezus wypowiada słowa, że ​​jest prawdziwym Pasterzem, który troszczy się o swoje owce, jest nieskalaną ofiarą za odkupienie świata, a owce mogą rozpoznać prawdziwy głos swojego Pasterza.

Dobry Pasterz wybiera tych, którzy są Jego pracownikami i sługami, aby rozwijać Kościół i jego lud. Z mojego punktu widzenia tak często myślę, dlaczego Bóg mnie wybrał, tak zwykłego i niegodnego człowieka. I nie mogę znaleźć odpowiedzi. Bardziej prawdopodobne jest to, że odpowiedź jest ukryta w wieczności. 

 

Bogu i Matce Kościoła, Maryi zależy na modlitwie o nowe powołania, aby móc zaspokoić duchowy i sakramentalny głód Chrystusa. Historia wielokrotnie pokazała, że nie jest to takie oczywiste, iż każdy Kościół lokalny ma dość księży lub przynajmniej jednego księdza, który celebruje sakramenty i głosi Ewangelię. Dziś są niezliczone miejsca, w których nie ma księży, także w Europie. W niektórych miejscach i parafiach Eucharystia nie jest sprawowana regularnie, raz na dwa tygodnie, raz w miesiącu lub rzadziej. Możliwością tych osób jest okazjonalna służba i liturgia słowa oraz przyjmowanie Ciała Chrystusa bez właściwej Mszy.

 

W tych okolicznościach jesteśmy zachęcani do modlitwy o nowe powołania do kapłaństwa w naszej diecezji i na całym świecie, zaczynając modlić się za rodzinę, aby była dobrym religijnym środowiskiem dla młodego człowieka, który może powiedzieć: Idę za Tobą Jezu, Chcę być twoim księdzem.

 

Dziękuję wam za duchowe wsparcie i modlitwę za kapłanów i osoby konsekrowane tu i wszędzie, prośmy Pana o świętość dla szafarzy sakramentów świętych. Módlmy się za prałata Marka Miles ‘a w dniu jego święceń biskupich oraz za jego nową posługę w Beninie i Togo.

Luke 24:35-48

It is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead

The disciples told their story of what had happened on the road and how they had recognised Jesus at the breaking of bread.

  They were still talking about all this when Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, ‘Peace be with you!’ In a state of alarm and fright, they thought they were seeing a ghost. But he said, ‘Why are you so agitated, and why are these doubts rising in your hearts? Look at my hands and feet; yes, it is I indeed. Touch me and see for yourselves; a ghost has no flesh and bones as you can see I have.’ And as he said this he showed them his hands and feet. Their joy was so great that they still could not believe it, and they stood there dumbfounded; so he said to them, ‘Have you anything here to eat?’ And they offered him a piece of grilled fish, which he took and ate before their eyes.

  Then he told them, ‘This is what I meant when I said, while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, in the Prophets and in the Psalms has to be fulfilled.’ He then opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, ‘So you see how it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses to this.’

   On the Third Sunday of Eastertide, we are still celebrating the biggest victory of in the world’s history, when the King of life defeated devil. Jesus Christ appeared alive in front of the women, then the Apostles and the rest of His disciples. 

 

We may find the proof of that truth in the today’s Gospel of Luke, which was read on the Easter Thursday during the Easter Octave. Jesus, after HisResurrection, many times appeared in front of different people, to give them the evidence, that everything what had been announced about Him, came true. All the Apostles gathered in the Cenacle, where they met Jesus Christ. Christ said to them:“peace be with you”. Do not be afraid. I am not aghost, but the living God. The Apostles’ anxiety was so big that they were not able to believe He is the Lord. In their hearts there was a confusion ofhappiness and fear. Jesus Christ did not gave up but tried to persuade His friends: I am the real God and the real man. May your heart be the place of freedom and joy, not the place of fear and fright. 

 

At the end of His conversation, Jesus emphasised that everything was done to reveal the whole truth about Him, The Son of God had to suffer in order to make the whole mankind free. The order of Christ was clear: go and proclaim His victory. 

While we are reading the Gospel of Luke, may notice some analogy to the fear and doubts of the people in the Cenacle. The modern word is so often devoid of hope and peace, filled with uncertainty and fright. Despite technological advancements, people are still unsure of their future and look at it with fear. At the same time, this world is in constant rush for the development. At the same time many people are broken, contaminated with weakness, sins, addictionsand limitation. 

 

The Risen Jesus Christ is coming to us, as he came to the Apostles. He says: “peace be with you”, do notbe afraid, I am alive, I have overcome any limitations of this world. He wants to persuade people about His power and glory. 

 

And this is our work. We should first build the conscience of his Resurrection. So many people are devoid of hope because they cannot believe in Jesus’power. This is our opportunity to awake the world and the people, tell everybody around that He is risen, and He is the real comforter of all men. Let usawake from the lethargy which spiritually ties many of us. 

 

He is risen and we are the witnesses of this greatest truth. Amen.

Zmartwychwstały Jezus Chrystus przychodzi do nas, tak jak przyszedł do Apostołów, mówiąc: „Pokój wam”, nie bójcie się, Ja żyję, zwyciężyłem ten świat, wszelkie ograniczenia i uzależnienia od niego. Chce przekonać ludzi o swojej mocy i chwale.
