Luke 14:1,7-14

Everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled

On a sabbath day Jesus had gone for a meal to the house of one of the leading Pharisees; and they watched him closely. He then told the guests a parable, because he had noticed how they picked the places of honour. He said this, ‘When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take your seat in the place of honour. A more distinguished person than you may have been invited, and the person who invited you both may come and say, “Give up your place to this man.” And then, to your embarrassment, you would have to go and take the lowest place. No; when you are a guest, make your way to the lowest place and sit there, so that, when your host comes, he may say, “My friend, move up higher.” In that way, everyone with you at the table will see you honoured. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the man who humbles himself will be exalted.’

  Then he said to his host, ‘When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not ask your friends, brothers, relations or rich neighbours, for fear they repay your courtesy by inviting you in return. No; when you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; that they cannot pay you back means that you are fortunate, because repayment will be made to you when the virtuous rise again.’

   Jesus Christ addresses His words to us. We should be humble. If you are invited to a party, take last seats and if you are preparing a meal, invite those who cannot repay you for it, because you will be rewarded in heaven. 

 

The whole teaching of Christ is based on humility. Why Jesus does it? He has the power and authority to do that. He is full of mercy and humility. Our needs are very important for God. 

 

As our Father, He cares for us. Every human need is more important than Jesus' needs. 

 

The Gospel of Luke gives us a very important and difficult task. Try to do the same, try to imitate your Master and Lord, Jesus Christ. This is our fundamental task – we should be like Jesus.

 

Why humility is so important in our Christian life? 

 

Only humility builds real authority and affection. Nobody likes people who are selfish. We want to have nothing to do with them because their behaviour is oppressive. 

 

Jesus Christ tells us about real humility. The people who help others are beautiful in the sight of God.  

 

In XX century, in one of the countries used to live a nun. That country unfortunately became a satellite of the Soviet Union (Lithuania). The woman was a mistic, had the stigmata (the wounds of the Crucified Christ). When the communist government took control over the country, she was arrested and imprisoned, because she was considered an enemy of the new ideology and order of Marxism and communism. 

 

She was maltreated, humiliated, and insulted. One day, one of the soldiers asked: Why don’t you treat me badly? Why don’t you hate me?

 

Her answer was very significant: I cannot because my Master, Jesus Christ, do not allow us to hate. He forgave all when He was crucified, and I want to do the same. This is the deep understanding of being humble.

 

From the Diary of St. Faustina, Jesus told her: Faustina, show your humility through listening to others. Even if you heard about something before, do that again, because this is the way to show respect to other people. Listen to your sisters; this is how you should show humility. 

 

Nowadays, it is not easy to be humble. For many people it is more important to put on the first place their own business and interests. Despite this, if we choose humility, we choose Christ and become like Him. 

 

Such attitude is the perfect imitation of Jesus. Only people of mercy and humility may overcome proud and selfishness. Jesus Christ, bestow our hearts with simplicity and humility. Amen.

Do tego zaś, który Go zaprosił, rzekł: ”Gdy wydajesz obiad albo wieczerzę, nie zapraszaj swoich przyjaciół ani braci, ani krewnych, ani zamożnych sąsiadów, aby cię i oni nawzajem nie zaprosili, i miałbyś odpłatę. Lecz kiedy urządzasz przyjęcie, zaproś ubogich, ułomnych, chromych i niewidomych. A będziesz szczęśliwy, ponieważ nie mają czym tobie się odwdzięczyć; odpłatę bowiem otrzymasz przy zmartwychwstaniu sprawiedliwych”.

 Jezus Chrystus kieruje do nas swoje słowa: bądźcie pokorni. Jeśli jesteś zaproszony na przyjęcie, zajmij ostatnie miejsca, a jeśli przygotowujesz posiłek, zaproś tych, którzy nie mogą Ci za to odwdzięczyć się, ponieważ zostaniesz nagrodzony w niebie.

 

Cała nauka Chrystusa opiera się na pokorze. Dlaczego Jezus to robi? Ma moc i władzę, aby to zrobić. Jest pełen miłosierdzia i pokory. Nasze potrzeby są bardzo ważne dla Boga.

 

Jako nasz Ojciec troszczy się o nas. Każda ludzka potrzeba jest ważniejsza niż potrzeby Jezusa.

 

Ewangelia Łukasza stawia przed nami bardzo ważne i trudne zadanie. Spróbuj zrobić to samo, spróbuj naśladować swojego Mistrza i Pana Jezusa Chrystusa. To jest nasze podstawowe zadanie, być jak Jezus.

 

Dlaczego pokora jest tak ważna w naszym chrześcijańskim życiu?

Kiedy rząd komunistyczny przejął władzę nad krajem, została ona aresztowana i osadzona w więzieniu, jako wróg nowej ideologii i porządku marksizmu i komunizmu.

 

Była źle traktowana, upokarzana i znieważana psychicznie, pewnego dnia jeden z żołnierzy zapytał, dlaczego nie traktujesz mnie źle, nie nienawidzisz mnie, nie szukając zniewagi.

 

Odpowiedź jej była dosadna, nie mogę, nawet gdybym zrobiła to samo, bo mój Mistrz Jezus Chrystus nie pozwala was nienawidzić. Wszystkim przebaczył z Krzyża, chcę zrobić to samo. To jest głębokie zrozumienie bycia pokornym.

 

  W Dzienniczku św. Siostry Faustyny ​​Jezus powiedział jej: Faustyno, okaż swoją pokorę słuchając innych. Nawet jeśli słyszałeś o czymś wcześniej, zrób to jeszcze raz, ponieważ jest to sposób na okazanie szacunku innym. Posłuchaj swoich sióstr; tak powinnaś okazywać pokorę.

Luke 13:22-30

The last shall be first and the first last

Through towns and villages Jesus went teaching, making his way to Jerusalem. Someone said to him, ‘Sir, will there be only a few saved?’ He said to them, ‘Try your best to enter by the narrow door, because, I tell you, many will try to enter and will not succeed.

  ‘Once the master of the house has got up and locked the door, you may find yourself knocking on the door, saying, “Lord, open to us” but he will answer, “I do not know where you come from.” Then you will find yourself saying, “We once ate and drank in your company; you taught in our streets” but he will reply, “I do not know where you come from. Away from me, all you wicked men!”

  ‘Then there will be weeping and grinding of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves turned outside. And men from east and west, from north and south, will come to take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.

  ‘Yes, there are those now last who will be first, and those now first who will be last.’

   "Try your best to enter by the narrow door, because, I tell you, many will try to enter and will not succeed". 

 

Today's Gospel of Luke tells us about the fundamental thing – entering by the narrow door, into eternity. 

 

Since the time when we were baptized, our spiritual journey has started. It’s the journey to the eternal life. As many saints and Christian scholars emphasised, our human being on Earth is temporal, and the final goal is the unity with God in heaven. 

 

If we know this truth, we shall do everything to get there. It should be our biggest desire and will. 

 

This task and the sentence said by Jesus reject some common opinion about salvation. 

 

It is enough that Jesus died and rose again; I must do nothing, because all people will be saved. A lot of people repeat the same mistake – they think all people will be saved, because Jesus Christ redeemed us. 

 

Many times I have heard the opinion that we will all meet in heaven. My answer is: I hope so, I want to be there, but the decision belongs to God. Will I get into His Kingdom? It depends on the quality of my life.  We cannot say that all people will be in heaven; we only hope for eternal life. Jesus Christ died and rose for us. What will we do with this gift and chance depends on us.

 

 

Jesus tells us to pass through the narrow gate. This is the analogy of life. We have received everything what we need to get there though baptism, faith in God in the Holy Trinity, prayer and sacraments. 

 

Our life as Catholics is a long way. God encourages us to work hard; We should try to sanctify ourselves, every day, through God's grace. 

 

Whatever we do – our deeds, thoughts and decisions, have influence on our eternity. We cannot say: do what you like, do what you wish, because God’s Kingdom will be open for you no matter what.

 

The narrow door means very hard work and fight against sins and weaknesses. This is our daily heroism. 

 

A couple days ago, I watched a movie titled “the Called”. The main plotline was based on the meeting of a priest with a family. Such situation is quite normal in Poland after Christmas, when a priests goes to bless houses and meet with families. During that meeting, they often talk about God and His existence. In the situation presented in the film, the only religious person was the mother, while the rest of the members were not.  

 

The priest in his talk used the real story of people who were converted and found God. He gave them the real taste of life. Those people had luxury life, they were some famous people from the fist pages of newspapers, television and the Internet. When they met Jesus Christ, they found out that somebody loves them. 

 

I would like to focus on a woman, who was living in a relationship with a man. They had two children and a lot of plans. But all the sudden, the man got a brain tumour. The prognosis was only 3-6 months of life. When he found out about it, he started reorganizing his life, praying, using the sacraments and living in chastity in order to prepare for the definite meeting with God.

 

The woman could not understand his behaviour, she thought he became crazy because of his sickness. 

 

The man passed away and the woman understood that the whole experience and death of her partner was given by God to change her life. It has become the beginning of her conversion. This story shows the truth, shows how we should try to go through the narrow gate and be ready for the meeting with the Lord. 

 

Let’s try to do our best during that spiritual journey to eternal life, Amen.

Jezus przemierzał miasta i wsie, nauczając i odbywając swą podróż do Jerozolimy. Raz ktoś Go zapytał: "Panie, czy tylko nieliczni będą zbawieni?" On rzekł do nich: "Usiłujcie wejść przez ciasne drzwi; gdyż wielu, powiadam wam, będzie chciało wejść, a nie zdołają. Skoro Pan domu wstanie i drzwi zamknie, wówczas, stojąc na dworze, zaczniecie kołatać do drzwi i wołać: „Panie, otwórz nam!”, lecz On wam odpowie: „Nie wiem, skąd jesteście”. Wtedy zaczniecie mówić: „Przecież jadaliśmy i piliśmy z Tobą, i na ulicach naszych nauczałeś”. Lecz On rzecze: „Powiadam wam, nie wiem, skąd jesteście. Odstąpcie ode Mnie wszyscy, którzy dopuszczacie się niesprawiedliwości!” Tam będzie płacz i zgrzytanie zębów, gdy ujrzycie Abrahama, Izaaka i Jakuba, i wszystkich proroków w królestwie Bożym, a siebie samych precz wyrzuconych. Przyjdą ze wschodu i zachodu, z północy i południa i siądą za stołem w królestwie Bożym. Tak oto są ostatni, którzy będą pierwszymi, i są pierwsi, którzy będą ostatnimi".

   „Usiłujcie wejść przez ciasne drzwi; gdyż wielu, powiadam wam, będzie chciało wejść, a nie zdołają”.

 

Dzisiejsza Ewangelia św. Łukasza daje nam to, co podstawowe – wejście ciasnymi drzwiami do wieczności.

 

Od czasu, gdy zostaliśmy ochrzczeni, rozpoczęła się nasza duchowa podróż. To podróż do życia wiecznego. Jak podkreślało wielu świętych i chrześcijańskich uczonych, nasz człowiek na Ziemi jest doczesny, a ostatecznym celem jest jedność z Bogiem w niebie.

 

Jeśli znamy tę prawdę, powinniśmy zrobić wszystko, aby tam dotrzeć. To powinno być naszym największym pragnieniem i wolą.

 

To zdanie Jezusa odrzucają powszechną błędną opinię na temat zbawienia.

 

Wystarczy, że Jezus umarł i zmartwychwstał; Nie muszę nic robić, bo wszyscy ludzie będą zbawieni. Wiele osób powtarza ten sam błąd – myślą, że wszyscy ludzie będą zbawieni, ponieważ Jezus Chrystus nas odkupił.

 

Wiele razy słyszałem opinię, że wszyscy spotkamy się w niebie. Moja odpowiedź brzmi: mam nadzieję, chcę tego, ale decyzja należy do Boga, czy wejdę do Jego Królestwa? To zależy od jakości mojego życia. Nie możemy powiedzieć, że wszyscy ludzie będą w niebie; możemy tylko mieć nadzieję na życie wieczne. Jezus Chrystus umarł i zmartwychwstał dla nas. Od nas zależy, co zrobimy z tym darem i szansą.

 

 

Jezus każe nam przejść przez wąską bramę. To jest analogia do życia. Otrzymaliśmy wszystko, czego potrzebujemy, aby tam dotrzeć poprzez chrzest, wiarę w Boga w Trójcę Świętą, modlitwę i sakramenty.

 

Nasze życie jako katolików to długa droga. Bóg zachęca nas do ciężkiej pracy; Powinniśmy codziennie starać się uświęcać dzięki łasce Bożej.

 

Cokolwiek robimy – nasze czyny, myśli, decyzje mają wpływ na naszą wieczność. Nie możemy powiedzieć: rób co chcesz, bo Królestwo Boże będzie dla ciebie otwarte bez względu na wszystko.

 

Wąskie drzwi to bardzo ciężka praca i walka z grzechami i słabościami. To jest nasz codzienny heroizm.

 

Kilka dni temu obejrzałem film „Powołani”. Główny wątek fabularny opierał się na spotkaniu księdza z rodziną. Taka sytuacja jest w Polsce całkiem normalna po Bożym Narodzeniu, kiedy księża idą pobłogosławić domy spotykając się z rodzinami. Podczas tego spotkania podjęta została rozmowa o Bogu i Jego istnieniu. Co istotne, jedyną osobą religijną była matka, reszta członków była obojętna religijnie.

Ksiądz w swojej rozmowie wykorzystał prawdziwą historię ludzi, którzy się nawrócili, odnajdując Boga, który dał im prawdziwy smak życia. Tak często ci ludzie mieli luksusowe życie, znając innych ludzi z pierwszych stron gazet, telewizji i Internetu. Spotkali Jezusa Chrystusa, poznali, że ktoś ich kocha, Bóg.

 

Chciałbym skupić się na kobiecie, która żyła w związku z mężczyzną. Mieli razem dwoje dzieci, plany. Ale nagle mężczyzna zachorował na guza mózgu. Rokowanie to 3-6 miesięcy życia. Gdy ten mężczyzna dowiedział się o chorobie, zaczął porządkować swoje życie, modląc się, korzystając z sakramentów, żyjąc w czystości, aby móc przygotować się do definitywnego spotkania z Bogiem.

Kobieta nie mogła zrozumieć jego zachowania, myśląc, że jest szalony z powodu choroby.

 

Mężczyzna odszedł, a kobieta zrozumiała, że ​​całe doświadczenie i śmierć jej partnera zostały dane przez Boga, aby zmienić jej życie. Stało się to początkiem jej nawrócenia i uporządkowania życia z Bogiem. Ta historia pokazuje prawdę, przejścia przez ciasną bramę i być gotowym na spotkanie z Panem.

 

Spróbujmy zrobić co w naszej mocy w tej duchowej podróży do życia wiecznego, Amen.

Luke 1:39-56

The Almighty has done great things for me

Mary set out and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah. She went into Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, ‘Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.’

  And Mary said:

‘My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord

and my spirit exults in God my saviour;

because he has looked upon his lowly handmaid.

Yes, from this day forward all generations will call me blessed,

for the Almighty has done great things for me.

Holy is his name,

and his mercy reaches from age to age for those who fear him.

He has shown the power of his arm,

he has routed the proud of heart.

He has pulled down princes from their thrones and exalted the lowly.

The hungry he has filled with good things, the rich sent empty away.

He has come to the help of Israel his servant, mindful of his mercy

– according to the promise he made to our ancestors –

of his mercy to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.’

Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months and then went back home.

   On this Sunday in Gibraltar, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady, which has been transferred to the Sunday.  Today we turn our eyes to the Mother of God, who was taken with body and soul into heaven, where her Son is. According to the tradition, Mary joined the Kingdom of God from a house in Ephesus, nowadays in Turkey.  The faith and conviction were so big, that the body of Mary wouldn’t have been spoiled in the tomb, because of her great sake in the plan of God and the motherhood of Jesus, so at the very beginning Christians believed and were assured, the Mother of God had to be taken into Heaven with the body and soul.

 

The response for that faith and conviction was the latest Dogma of the Catholic Church issued by Pope Pius XII in 1950, in the document, “the Munificentissimus Deus”, it means; “the Most Generous God”. The Magisterium and decision of the Pope were the response for the long tradition, faith, and a multitude of sermons, and homilies. The document has become the “coronation” of the folksy faith of many centuries.  

 

 

What is the meaning of this Solemnity? It shows clear consequence, if God is perfect, and Mary was kept of the original sin, giving a birth to the Son of God, her natural place is with Jesus Christ. She is there, where her Son is. God didn’t want to leave the body of Mary, to be turned into ash, but her immaculate body and soul should have been kept in the eternality. That’s the logic of God.

 

Secondly, The Mother is our Ambassador in Heaven. She is praying day and night for us, standing before Jesus. This is not true, as some people say from the Christian world, we pray to Mary as a God. Of course, she is not God, but as the Mother of us, she intercedes for us, we pray to God trough her, as the intercessor, and that’s makes a great different. The situation at the weeding in Cana confirms that truth. 

 

On the other side, we can imagine the situation, while Mary prays for us in the Kingdom of Heaven, asking Christ as a normal mother does; my Son, don’t you want to listen to me and give me a favorite?  Bestow my children with your grace, of what are they asking you. Probably Jesus has so often a “headache” hearing Mary😀, helping them, because he cannot refuse to her Mum.  

Let us celebrate with great joy, we have a great Ambassador in Heaven, she waits for us there. Holy Mary the Mother of God and Heaven. Pray for us. Amen.  

Na Gibraltarze, dzisiaj celebrujemy Uroczystość Wniebowzięcia NMP. 

(Łk 1, 39-56) 
Maryja wybrała się i poszła z pośpiechem w góry do pewnego miasta w pokoleniu Judy. Weszła do domu Zachariasza i pozdrowiła Elżbietę. Gdy Elżbieta usłyszała pozdrowienie Maryi, poruszyło się dzieciątko w jej łonie, a Duch Święty napełnił Elżbietę. Wydała ona okrzyk i powiedziała: "Błogosławiona jesteś między niewiastami i błogosławiony jest owoc Twojego łona. A skądże mi to, że Matka mojego Pana przychodzi do mnie? Oto skoro głos Twego pozdrowienia zabrzmiał w moich uszach, poruszyło się z radości dzieciątko w moim łonie. Błogosławiona jesteś, któraś uwierzyła, że spełnią się słowa powiedziane Ci od Pana". Wtedy Maryja rzekła: "Wielbi dusza moja Pana, i raduje się duch mój w Bogu, moim Zbawcy. Bo wejrzał na uniżenie swojej służebnicy. Oto bowiem odtąd błogosławić mnie będą wszystkie pokolenia. Gdyż wielkie rzeczy uczynił mi Wszechmocny. święte jest Jego imię, A Jego miłosierdzie z pokolenia na pokolenie nad tymi, co się Go boją. Okazał moc swego ramienia, rozproszył pyszniących się zamysłami serc swoich. Strącił władców z tronu, a wywyższył pokornych. Głodnych nasycił dobrami, a bogatych z niczym odprawił. Ujął się za swoim sługą, Izraelem, pomny na swe miłosierdzie. Jak przyobiecał naszym ojcom, Abrahamowi i jego potomstwu na wieki".    W tę niedzielę na Gibraltarze obchodzimy Uroczystość Wniebowzięcia Najświętszej Marii Panny, która została przeniesiona na niedzielę. Dziś zwracamy nasze oczy ku Matce Bożej, która z ciałem i duszą została zabrana do nieba, gdzie jest Jej Syn. Zgodnie z tradycją Maryja została wzięta do Królestwa Bożego z domu w Efezie, obecnie w Turcji. Wiara i przekonanie były tak wielkie, że ciało Maryi nie zostałoby zepsute w grobie, z powodu Jej wielkiego zaangażowania w zamysł Boży i macierzyństwo Jezusa, więc na samym początku chrześcijanie wierzyli i byli pewni, że Matka Boża z ciałem i duszą musiała zostać zabrana do nieba.

 

Odpowiedzią na tą wiarę i przekonanie był ostatni dogmat Kościoła katolickiego wydany przez papieża Piusa XII w 1950 r., w dokumencie „Munificentissimus Deus”, to znaczy; „Najszczodrzejszy Bóg”. Magisterium i decyzja Papieża były odpowiedzią na tęsknotę za tradycją, wiarą, potwierdzonej mnóstwem kazań i homilii. Dokument stał się „koronacją” wiary ludowej wielu wieków.

 

 

Jakie jest znaczenie tej uroczystości? Wskazuje ona na wyraźną konsekwencję bycia Matką Boga, jeśli Bóg jest doskonały, a Maryja została zachowana od grzechu pierworodnego, rodząc Syna Bożego, jej naturalnym miejscem jest Niebo. To zrozumiałe, On jest tam, gdzie jest Jej Syn. Bóg nie chciał, aby ciało Maryi obróciło się w popiół, ale jej nieskazitelne ciało i dusza należało zachować w wieczności. Taka jest logika Boga.

 

Po drugie, Matka jest naszym Ambasadorem w Niebie. Modli się za nas dzień i noc, stojąc przed Jezusem. To nieprawda, jak mówią niektórzy ludzie ze świata chrześcijańskiego, że modlimy się do Maryi jako Boga. Oczywiście Ona nie jest Bogiem, ale jako Matka nas wszystkich wstawia się za nami, a my modlimy się do Boga przez nią, jako orędowniczkę, a to czyni wielką różnicę. Sytuacja na weselu w Kanie potwierdza tę prawdę.

 

Z drugiej strony możemy sobie wyobrazić sytuację, w której Maryja modli się za nas w Królestwie Niebieskim, prosząc Chrystusa jak normalna matka; mój synu, czy nie chcesz mnie posłuchać? Obdarz moje dzieci swoją łaską, o cokolwiek Cię proszą. Zapewne Jezus tak często ma „ból głowy” słysząc Marię😀, pomóż im, bo nie może odmówić Swojej Mamie.

Świętujmy z wielką radością, mamy w Niebie wspaniałą Ambasadorkę, Ona tam na nas czeka. Święta Maryjo Matko Boga i Nieba. Módl się za nas. Amen.

Luke 12:32-48

You too must stand ready

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘There is no need to be afraid, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you the kingdom.

  ‘Sell your possessions and give alms. Get yourselves purses that do not wear out, treasure that will not fail you, in heaven where no thief can reach it and no moth destroy it. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

  ‘See that you are dressed for action and have your lamps lit. Be like men waiting for their master to return from the wedding feast, ready to open the door as soon as he comes and knocks. Happy those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. I tell you solemnly, he will put on an apron, sit them down at table and wait on them. It may be in the second watch he comes, or in the third, but happy those servants if he finds them ready. You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what hour the burglar would come, he would not have let anyone break through the wall of his house. You too must stand ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.’

  Peter said, ‘Lord, do you mean this parable for us, or for everyone?’ The Lord replied, ‘What sort of steward, then, is faithful and wise enough for the master to place him over his household to give them their allowance of food at the proper time? Happy that servant if his master’s arrival finds him at this employment. I tell you truly, he will place him over everything he owns. But as for the servant who says to himself, “My master is taking his time coming,” and sets about beating the menservants and the maids, and eating and drinking and getting drunk, his master will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know. The master will cut him off and send him to the same fate as the unfaithful.

  The servant who knows what his master wants, but has not even started to carry out those wishes, will receive very many strokes of the lash. The one who did not know, but deserves to be beaten for what he has done, will receive fewer strokes. When a man has had a great deal given him, a great deal will be demanded of him; when a man has had a great deal given him on trust, even more will be expected of him.’

    On this Sunday, we read the next chapter of the Gospel according to Luke. Jesus Christ tells us about the commitment to Him and about all our possessions. 

 

I think, among many words of Jesus, one sentence deserves our special attention. Chris says: "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also".

 

As we know, all our thoughts, desires and deeds come from our hearts and mind. That is the reason why Christ indicates that this treasure is inside of us. 

 

This sentence of Jesus is very important and it is very up-to-date because we have to ask ourselves the question: who am I, what I am looking for?

 

The situation of Christians is not easy in the modern world. The priorities have changed – what was very important in the past, now doesn’t have much meaning.  Observing the development of technology, medicine, and other aspects of life, we can notice, that the values, which were important before, like pure love, charity, sensitivity and generosity, are not attracting people anymore.  Now it’s all about human power and popularity, selfishness, material wealth and, above all, money. 

 

Very often we complain, that we have lost the human sense and the ability to open our hearts to God and others. We say that this world is cruel because there is no place for values in it.

 

Another important question is where who or what is the most important for us, who is our God? This question and an attempt to answer it are included in Jesus' words about our priorities.  

 

What is more important in our life: God, His commandment our faith, prayers, sacraments, love and respect for others, help, compassion, or maybe human power, honours, good position, needs, and of course money? 

 

Who or what is my God? Who do I follow? What is the treasure of my heart, who is my eternal good?

 

Many nations in Europe are post-Christian countries, God and His commandments were there in the first place, but God has been displaced by many different good, ideologies and ways of life. 

 

I want to be understood properly, everything that we have, material goods, money and our belongings are good if we use them in good faith. But looking at the world, especially in Europe, and at those places which are called the Western World, it seems to me that everything that belongs to our wealth becomes also our curse. Although it can be shocking.

I remember a talk with a person some time ago, who told me a story of one bishop of Gibraltar, giving the interview to a local media. The journalist ask the bishop; Father, what is the biggest worry about our city? He responded, I worry about the overly richness and wealth, because of it, there is no place of God and his commandments. We have seen already, he had right. 

 

Very often, when the society is rich, there is no place for God and His values. A lot of people have created the god of money. They need nothing spiritual, they do not believe in the power of God. They think that they are self-sufficient. 

We are so proud when we say: I am catholic, Gibraltar has Christian roots but meanwhile only 5-7% of its inhabitants go to church on Sunday.  

I have seen, some people think, that they are not obliged to come to Mass on every Sunday. They come preferably, if I want to, I go, saying, that's fine, ignoring the duty of the Sunday Mass. 

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says clearly, if someone omits on purpose and willingly Sunday Mass, that person commits mortal sin, which should be confess and absolved in the sacrament of reconciliation. 

 

Unfortunately, many people think that they do not need God.

 

Where is my heart, there is my treasure. 

Finally, material goods will disappear, but God and His good will last forever. So where am I, with God, or with my vision of life?

Jezus powiedział do swoich uczniów: "Nie bój się, mała trzódko, gdyż spodobało się Ojcu waszemu dać wam królestwo. Sprzedajcie wasze mienie i dajcie jałmużnę. Sprawcie sobie trzosy, które nie niszczeją, skarb niewyczerpany w niebie, gdzie złodziej się nie dostaje ani mól nie niszczy. Bo gdzie jest skarb wasz, tam będzie i serce wasze. Niech będą przepasane biodra wasze i zapalone pochodnie. A wy bądźcie podobni do ludzi oczekujących swego pana, kiedy z uczty weselnej powróci, aby mu zaraz otworzyć, gdy nadejdzie i zakołacze. Szczęśliwi owi słudzy, których pan zastanie czuwających, gdy nadejdzie. Zaprawdę, powiadam wam: Przepasze się i każe im zasiąść do stołu, a obchodząc, będzie im usługiwał. Czy o drugiej, czy o trzeciej straży przyjdzie, szczęśliwi oni, gdy ich tak zastanie. A to rozumiejcie, że gdyby gospodarz wiedział, o której godzinie przyjść ma złodziej, nie pozwoliłby włamać się do swego domu. Wy też bądźcie gotowi, gdyż o godzinie, której się nie domyślacie, Syn Człowieczy przyjdzie". Wtedy Piotr zapytał: "Panie, czy do nas mówisz tę przypowieść, czy też do wszystkich?" Pan odpowiedział: "Któż jest owym rządcą wiernym i roztropnym, którego pan ustanowi nad swoją służbą, żeby rozdawał jej żywność we właściwej porze? Szczęśliwy ten sługa, którego pan, powróciwszy, zastanie przy tej czynności. Prawdziwie powiadam wam: Postawi go nad całym swoim mieniem. Lecz jeśli sługa ów powie sobie w sercu: Mój pan się ociąga z powrotem, i zacznie bić sługi i służące, a przy tym jeść, pić i upijać się, to nadejdzie pan tego sługi w dniu, kiedy się nie spodziewa, i o godzinie, której nie zna; surowo go ukarze i wyznaczy mu miejsce z niewiernymi. Ów sługa, który poznał wolę swego pana, a nic nie przygotował i nie uczynił zgodnie z jego wolą, otrzyma wielką chłostę. Ten zaś, który nie poznał jego woli, a uczynił coś godnego kary, otrzyma małą chłostę. Komu wiele dano, od tego wiele wymagać się będzie; a komu wiele powierzono, tym więcej od niego żądać będą".

   W tą niedzielę czytamy kolejny rozdział Ewangelii według Łukasza. 

 

Myślę, że wśród wielu słów Jezusa jedno zdanie zasługuje na szczególną uwagę. Chrystus mówi: „Gdzie jest twój skarb, tam też będzie twoje serce”.

 

Jak wiemy, wszystkie nasze myśli, pragnienia i czyny pochodzą z naszego serca i umysłu. Dlatego Chrystus wskazuje, że ten skarb jest w nas.

 

To zdanie Jezusa jest bardzo ważne i bardzo aktualne, bo musimy sobie zadać pytanie: kim jestem, czego szukam?

 

We współczesnym świecie sytuacja chrześcijan nie jest łatwa. Zmieniły się priorytety – co było bardzo ważne w przeszłości, teraz nie ma większego znaczenia. Obserwując rozwój techniki, medycyny i innych aspektów życia, możemy zauważyć, że wartości, które wcześniej były ważne, takie jak czysta miłość, dobroczynność, wrażliwość i hojność, nie przyciągają już ludzi. Teraz chodzi o ludzką siłę i popularność, egoizm, bogactwo materialne, a przede wszystkim o pieniądze.

 

Bardzo często narzekamy, że straciliśmy ludzki rozsądek i zdolność otwierania naszych serc na Boga i innych. Mówimy, że ten świat jest okrutny, bo nie ma w nim miejsca na wartości.

 

Kolejnym ważnym pytaniem jest, kto lub co jest dla nas najważniejsze, kto jest naszym Bogiem. To pytanie i próba odpowiedzi są zawarte w słowach Jezusa o naszych priorytetach.

 

Co jest ważniejsze w naszym życiu: Bóg, Jego przykazanie nasza wiara, modlitwy, sakramenty, miłość i szacunek dla innych, pomoc i współczucie, a może ludzka moc, zaszczyty, dobra pozycja, potrzeby i oczywiście pieniądze?

 

Kim lub czym jest mój Bóg? Jaki jest skarb mego serca, kto jest moim wiecznym dobrem?

 

Wiele narodów w Europie to kraje post chrześcijańskie, gdzie na pierwszym miejscu był Bóg i Jego przykazania, ale Bóg został wyparty przez wiele różnych dóbr, ideologii i sposobów życia.

 

Chcę być dobrze zrozumiany, wszystko co posiadamy, dobra materialne, pieniądze i nasz dobytek są dobre, jeśli używamy ich w dobrej wierze. Ale patrząc na świat, zwłaszcza w Europie, i na te miejsca, które nazywa się Światem Zachodu, wydaje mi się, że wszystko, co należy do naszego bogactwa, staje się także naszym przekleństwem, i brzmi to szokujące.

 

Bardzo często, gdy społeczeństwo jest bogate, nie ma miejsca dla Boga i Jego wartości. Wielu ludzi stworzyło własnego boga. Nie potrzebują niczego duchowego, nie wierzą w moc Boga. Uważają, że są samowystarczalni.

Jesteśmy bardzo dumni, gdy mówimy: jestem katolikiem, Gibraltar ma chrześcijańskie korzenie, ale tymczasem tylko 5-7% jego mieszkańców chodzi w niedzielę do kościoła.

 

Niestety wiele osób myśli, że nie potrzebują Boga.

 

Gdzie jest moje serce, tam jest mój skarb.

 

Kiedyś dobra materialne znikną, ale Bóg i Jego dobro będą trwać wiecznie. A w jakim wartościach ja się odnajduję?
