The call of John the Baptist
The Second Sunday of Advent moves
to the shore of the Jordan River, when St. John the Baptist did his work, foretelling
the coming of Jesus Christ. He is the main person of the todays Gospel of Luke,
who indicates on the Lord.
This Advent Journey has a great
patron in the person of St. John, the precursor of the New Testament, who unites
the Old Covenant with the Messiah, the Son of God.
John says to us, prepare the
way for the Lord, make you paths straight. What does this sentence mean?
This is about the nature of
this liturgical period. About the preparation and conversion. These four weeks
is the time of focusing on my spiritual and daily day, to get to know, what is my
quality of life.
It is a very interesting imperative
of John, he does not say, you may change your life. No, he says, do that, the
consistency of him is so clear. This is all we need, to make clear decision, I
want to change my life, to be able to be prepared for the second coming of Jesus
and for his celebration of birth.
This decision and will should
be implemented into my daily life. It is enough to think about it, but to do
it. The conversion needs acting and work. One of the conditions of the sacrament
of confession and the whole Christian life is about the determination to atone.
It means, I want to be changed, I do everything to achieve it. To think about
it only, this too little for the serious treating of Advent.
One of my friends said to me, any
spiritual effort, this is like a spiritual spa. Yes, this time has been given
to me to recover my soul. Jesus Christ is supportive to me, giving his
sacrament (Eucharist, confession), and the occasion of prayer.
May the time of Advent be full
of the spiritual actions. Amen.
Było to w piętnastym roku rządów Tyberiusza Cezara. Gdy Poncjusz Piłat był namiestnikiem Judei, Herod tetrarchą Galilei, brat jego Filip tetrarchą Iturei i kraju Trachonu, Lizaniasz tetrarchą Abileny; za najwyższych kapłanów Annasza i Kajfasza skierowane zostało słowo Boże do Jana, syna Zachariasza, na pustyni. Obchodził więc całą okolicę nad Jordanem i głosił chrzest nawrócenia na odpuszczenie grzechów, jak jest napisane w księdze mów proroka Izajasza: „Głos wołającego na pustyni: Przygotujcie drogę Panu, prostujcie ścieżki dla Niego; każda dolina niech będzie wypełniona, każda góra i pagórek zrównane, drogi kręte niech staną się prostymi, a wyboiste drogami gładkimi. I wszyscy ludzie ujrzą zbawienie Boże”.
