The Gift of faith... Dar wiary...

Mark 4:26-34

The kingdom of God is a mustard seed growing into the biggest shrub of all

Jesus said to the crowds: ‘This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man throws seed on the land. Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he does not know. Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the crop is ready, he loses no time: he starts to reap because the harvest has come.’

  He also said, ‘What can we say the kingdom of God is like? What parable can we find for it? It is like a mustard seed which at the time of its sowing in the soil is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them all and puts out big branches so that the birds of the air can shelter in its shade.’

  Using many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, so far as they were capable of understanding it. He would not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything to his disciples when they were alone.

    Today, on the XI Sunday in Ordinary Time, Jesus uses two different parables about the plant seed and the mustard seed which gave a good harvest. Although these two parables are a bit different, they refer to the same subject on faith. The belief of a Christian man is like this seed of a plant. It needs help and interference to be sprouting and growing. 

 

We often say that faith is God’s grace and no one can deserve it. God, in His love, has given us the experience of His presence, not by physical senses, but spirituality. This is the evidently the gift of God. 

 

But that gift is put into the fragile human nature, it is not given once and for ever. We may easily lose it, because the way from faith to non-belief is so short, as we can see in some stories from the gospels.

 

The today’s Gospel of Mark tells us about the need of the development of our faith. We should constantly take care of the relationship with God. Jesus Christ wants to show us the real life. 

 

The confirmation of this is well showed in the two examples of saints. One day, the confessor of St. Faustina, Father Michael, said to his friend priest: I cannot understand, how this uneducated woman (St. Faustina), who finished only 3 classes of the primary school, and has no theological knowledge, is able to speak about the great mystery of God. The only answer is that she has some powerful faith in God. 

 

The second example is St. John Maria Vianney, who was going to his parish of Ars. He lost his way, and asked a little boy: little boy, show the way to Ars, and I’ll show you the way to heaven. St. John Maria was another phenome of faith. That man had great problems with his studies in seminary. From the human point of view he was an ordinary person, but on the other side he brought a massive number of people to God. 

 

These two lives of saints give us a great testimony of the power of faith which can bring us closer to God and bring more people to Jesus Christ. 

 

Jesus Christ, increase my faith. Amen.

Jezus mówił do tłumów: "Z królestwem Bożym dzieje się tak, jak gdyby ktoś nasienie wrzucił w ziemię. Czy śpi, czy czuwa, we dnie i w nocy, nasienie kiełkuje i rośnie, sam nie wie jak. Ziemia sama z siebie wydaje plon, najpierw źdźbło, potem kłos, a potem pełne ziarno w kłosie. Gdy zaś plon dojrzeje, zaraz zapuszcza sierp, bo pora już na żniwo". Mówił jeszcze: "Z czym porównamy królestwo Boże lub w jakiej przypowieści je przedstawimy? Jest ono jak ziarnko gorczycy; gdy się je wsiewa w ziemię, jest najmniejsze ze wszystkich nasion na ziemi. Lecz wsiane, wyrasta i staje się większe od innych jarzyn; wypuszcza wielkie gałęzie, tak że ptaki podniebne gnieżdżą się w jego cieniu". W wielu takich przypowieściach głosił im naukę, o ile mogli ją rozumieć. A bez przypowieści nie przemawiał do nich. Osobno zaś objaśniał wszystko swoim uczniom.

    Dziś, w XI Niedzielę Zwykłą, Jezus przytacza dwie różne przypowieści o ziarnie rośliny i ziarnku gorczycy, które wydały dobry plon. Chociaż te dwie przypowieści są nieco inne, dotyczą tego samego tematu wiary. Wiara chrześcijanina jest jak to ziarno rośliny. Aby mogła kiełkować i rosnąć, potrzebuje pomocy i ingerencji.

 

Często mówimy, że wiara jest łaską Boga i nikt nie może na nią zasłużyć. Bóg w swojej miłości dał nam doświadczenie swojej obecności nie za pomocą zmysłów fizycznych, ale duchowych. Jest to ewidentnie dar Boży.

 

Ale ten dar jest włożony w kruchą ludzką naturę, nie jest dany raz na zawsze. Łatwo możemy ją utracić, bo droga od wiary do niewiary jest tak krótka, jak widać to w niektórych opowieściach ewangelicznych.

 

Dzisiejsza Ewangelia Marka mówi nam o potrzebie rozwoju naszej wiary. O relację z Bogiem powinniśmy stale dbać. Jezus Chrystus chce nam pokazać prawdziwe życie.

 

Potwierdzenie tej prawdy widać bardzo dobrze na dwóch przykładach świętych. Któregoś dnia spowiednik św. Faustyny, ksiądz Michał, powiedział swojemu przyjacielowi księdzu: nie mogę zrozumieć, jak ta niewykształcona kobieta (św. Faustyna), która ukończyła tylko 3 klasy szkoły podstawowej i nie ma wiedzy teologicznej, jest w stanie mówić o wielkiej tajemnicy Boga. Jedyną odpowiedzią jest to, że ma potężną wiarę w Boga.

 

Drugim przykładem jest św. Jan Maria Vianney, który idąc do swojej parafii w Ars, zbłądził.  zapytał on małego chłopca: chłopcze, wskaż drogę do Ars, a ja wskażę ci drogę do nieba. To kolejny fenomen wiary, św. Jan Maria. Człowiek ten miał ogromne problemy z nauką w seminarium. Z ludzkiego punktu widzenia był zwykłym człowiekiem, ale z drugiej strony przyprowadził do Boga ogromną liczbę ludzi.

 

Te dwa żywoty świętych dają nam wielkie świadectwo o mocy wiary, która może przybliżyć nas do Boga i przyprowadzić więcej ludzi do Jezusa Chrystusa.
