Sunday of the Divine Mercy... Niedziela Miłosierdzia Bożego...

 

John 20:19-31

Eight days later, Jesus came again and stood among them

In the evening of that same day, the first day of the week, the doors were closed in the room where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews. Jesus came and stood among them. He said to them, ‘Peace be with you’, and showed them his hands and his side. The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord, and he said to them again, ‘Peace be with you.

‘As the Father sent me,

so am I sending you.’

After saying this he breathed on them and said:

‘Receive the Holy Spirit.

For those whose sins you forgive,

they are forgiven;

for those whose sins you retain,

they are retained.’

Thomas, called the Twin, who was one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. When the disciples said, ‘We have seen the Lord’, he answered, ‘Unless I see the holes that the nails made in his hands and can put my finger into the holes they made, and unless I can put my hand into his side, I refuse to believe.’ Eight days later the disciples were in the house again and Thomas was with them. The doors were closed, but Jesus came in and stood among them. ‘Peace be with you’ he said. Then he spoke to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; look, here are my hands. Give me your hand; put it into my side. Doubt no longer but believe.’ Thomas replied, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him:

‘You believe because you can see me.

Happy are those who have not seen and yet believe.’

There were many other signs that Jesus worked and the disciples saw, but they are not recorded in this book. These are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing this you may have life through his name.

Today we celebrate the Second Sunday of Easter, which, since 2000, has been called the Divine Mercy Sunday. That day was established by the Saint Pope John Paul II who canonized sister Faustina Kowalska and instituted this feast for the whole world. 

 

While we are reading the Gospel of John, we may notice a very interesting situation. For 40 days Jesus was appearing for the Apostles and disciples. St. John reports that one of the Apostles was not there at the first time, and when his companions told him: “we have seen the Lord”, he refused to believe. 

 

After 8 days, Jesus was appeared to Thomas and said: touch my wounds and my side, and stop not to believe, but start to be a believer. After that, Thomas expressed the most beautiful profession of faith: My Lord and my God. 

 

What does connect the situation from the Gospel with the Divine Mercy? Let’s look at the attitude of Christ. He did not say to Thomas: “Go away from me, because you have no faith”. Instead of that he tried to encourage Thomas to believe. It was a great symptom of God’s Mercy.

 

Today, like Thomas, we need to touch the wounds and side of Jesus, to renew our faith and gain His Mercy. Jesus asked Faustina to do everything she could, so that the new feast could be announced by the Church, because the whole world needs merciful love. Without the love of Jesus, the whole humanity falls into the abyss of hatred, fear and lack of hope. 

 

We need God’s love and commandments in order to be able to be people in the real meaning – people who care for others. 

 

Where do we find the fount of mercy? In two sacraments. Firstly, in the Holy Eucharist –we receive the Jesus’ divinity in the Blessed Sacrament. 

 

The second sacrament is more demanding, but necessary. It is the sacrament of penance. In the Gospel, Jesus says;

 

 

 

 

 

Receive the Holy Spirit.

For those whose sins you forgive,

they are forgiven;

for those whose sins you retain,

they are retained.

 

These words indicate the sacramental confession. Jesus said to Faustina, my Throne of Mercy is in the confessional box. Apart from that, Jesus said to her: “my mercy is endless, I am never tired with the grace of my love, the only thing that makes me sad is when the man refuses my love and mercy. If the mankind belies in my mercy, even the worst sinner will become a saint person. 

 

We only need to come the Holy Eucharist and confession, to respond to Christ. 

Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and be glorified in your love. St. Faustina Kowalska, pray for us. Amen.

Wieczorem w dniu zmartwychwstania, tam gdzie przebywali uczniowie, choć drzwi były zamknięte z obawy przed Żydami, przyszedł Jezus, stanął pośrodku i rzekł do nich: "Pokój wam!" A to powiedziawszy, pokazał im ręce i bok. Uradowali się zatem uczniowie, ujrzawszy Pana. A Jezus znowu rzekł do nich: "Pokój wam! Jak Ojciec Mnie posłał, tak i Ja was posyłam». Po tych słowach tchnął na nich i powiedział im: "Weźmijcie Ducha Świętego! Którym odpuścicie grzechy, są im odpuszczone, a którym zatrzymacie, są im zatrzymane". Ale Tomasz, jeden z Dwunastu, zwany Didymos, nie był razem z nimi, kiedy przyszedł Jezus. Inni więc uczniowie mówili do niego: "Widzieliśmy Pana!" Ale on rzekł do nich: "Jeżeli na rękach Jego nie zobaczę śladu gwoździ i nie włożę palca mego w miejsce gwoździ, i ręki mojej nie włożę w bok Jego, nie uwierzę". A po ośmiu dniach, kiedy uczniowie Jego byli znowu wewnątrz domu i Tomasz z nimi, Jezus przyszedł, choć drzwi były zamknięte, stanął pośrodku i rzekł: "Pokój wam!" Następnie rzekł do Tomasza: "Podnieś tutaj swój palec i zobacz moje ręce. Podnieś rękę i włóż w mój bok, i nie bądź niedowiarkiem, lecz wierzącym". Tomasz w odpowiedzi rzekł do Niego: "Pan mój i Bóg mój!" Powiedział mu Jezus: "Uwierzyłeś dlatego, że Mnie ujrzałeś? Błogosławieni, którzy nie widzieli, a uwierzyli". I wiele innych znaków, których nie zapisano w tej księdze, uczynił Jezus wobec uczniów. Te zaś zapisano, abyście wierzyli, że Jezus jest Mesjaszem, Synem Bożym, i abyście wierząc, mieli życie w imię Jego.

 Dziś obchodzimy II Niedzielę Wielkanocną, zwaną od 2000 roku Niedzielą Miłosierdzia Bożego. Dzień ten ustanowił św. Papież Jan Paweł II, który kanonizował Siostrę Faustynę Kowalską i ustanowił to święto dla całego świata.

 

Czytając Ewangelię Jana możemy zauważyć ciekawą sytuację. Jezus ukazywał się Apostołom i uczniom przez 40 dni od Zmartwychwstania. Św. Jan pisze, że jednego z Apostołów nie było tam za pierwszym razem, a kiedy powiedzieli mu jego towarzysze; widzieliśmy Pana, nie chciał uwierzyć.

 

Po 8 dniach, podobnie jak dzisiaj (Niedziela w Oktawie Wielkanocnej), Jezus ukazał się Tomaszowi mówiąc, dotknij moich ran i boku i przestań nie wierzyć, ale zacznij być wierzącym. Następnie Tomasz złożył najpiękniejsze wyznanie wiary, Pan mój i Bóg mój.

 

Co łączy sytuację Ewangelii z Miłosierdziem Bożym? Spójrzmy na postawę Chrystusa, nie powiedział On do Tomasza, odejdź ode mnie, bo nie masz wiary, ale przyjdź do mnie i uwierz we mnie. To był wielki objaw Miłosierdzia Boga, który nie opuszcza człowieka, ale robi wszystko, aby nas pozyskać.

 

Dziś potrzebujemy, jak Tomasz dotknąć ran i boku Jezusa, aby odnowić naszą wiarę i zyskać Jego Miłosierdzie. Jezus prosił Faustynę, aby zrobiła wszystko, aby to święto mogło być ogłoszone przez Kościół, bo cały świat i każdy człowiek potrzebuje Jego miłosiernej miłości. Bez Bożej miłości cała ludzkość spada w otchłań nienawiści, strachu, braku nadziei.

 

Potrzebujemy Bożej miłości i przykazań, aby móc być ludźmi w prawdziwym tego słowa znaczeniu, troszczącymi się o innych.

 

Gdzie znajdziemy źródło miłosierdzia? W dwóch sakramentach, najpierw w Najświętszej Eucharystii, Jezus Chrystus daje się nam w pełni, otrzymujemy Boskość Boga w Najświętszym Sakramencie.

 

Drugi sakrament jest bardziej wymagający i nie prosty, ale konieczny. Sakrament pokuty. W Ewangelii Jezus mówi;

 

 

„Weźmijcie Ducha Świętego! Którym odpuścicie grzechy, są im odpuszczone, a którym zatrzymacie, są im zatrzymane”. 

 

 

Te słowa wskazują na sakramentalną spowiedź. Jezus powiedział do Faustyny, że mój Tron Miłosierdzia jest w konfesjonale. Poza tym, Jezus rzekł do niej powiedział, moje miłosierdzie jest nieskończone, nigdy nie męczy mnie łaska mojej miłości, jedyne co mnie zasmuca, to kiedy człowiek odrzuca moją miłość i miłosierdzie. Chrystus powiedział, gdyby ludzkość uwierzyła w moje miłosierdzie, nawet największy grzesznik mógłby zostać świętą osobą.

 

Wystarczy, że często przychodzimy do źródła miłosierdzia, do Najświętszej Eucharystii i do spowiedzi, aby odpowiedzieć na wezwanie Chrystusa. 

Jezu Chryste zmiłuj się nad nami i bądź uwielbiony w swojej miłości. Św. Faustyno Kowalska módl się za nami. Amen.
