Luke 21:5-19

The destruction of the Temple foretold

When some were talking about the Temple, remarking how it was adorned with fine stonework and votive offerings, Jesus said, ‘All these things you are staring at now – the time will come when not a single stone will be left on another: everything will be destroyed.’ And they put to him this question: ‘Master,’ they said ‘when will this happen, then, and what sign will there be that this is about to take place?’

  ‘Take care not to be deceived,’ he said ‘because many will come using my name and saying, “I am he” and, “The time is near at hand.” Refuse to join them. And when you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened, for this is something that must happen but the end is not so soon.’ Then he said to them, ‘Nation will fight against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes and plagues and famines here and there; there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.

  ‘But before all this happens, men will seize you and persecute you; they will hand you over to the synagogues and to imprisonment, and bring you before kings and governors because of my name – and that will be your opportunity to bear witness. Keep this carefully in mind: you are not to prepare your defence, because I myself shall give you an eloquence and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relations and friends; and some of you will be put to death. You will be hated by all men on account of my name, but not a hair of your head will be lost. Your endurance will win you your lives.’

   The words of the Lord may terrify us because Jesus creates a vision of a damage and the Apocalypse. Readings the Gospel of Luke, for us, the people of the XXI century, who are used to with comfort and controlling over of everything, the perspective of a natural disaster, persecuting and lack of control of this life, can make us afraid of. 

 

These circumstances show, for how much we have accepted, that everything belons to us, and a man can rule over of every aspect of life. 

The Lord says, you are wrong, do not think, all the world is subjected to you without any responsibilities and consequences. 

 

You are not the “lord”. We need to know, where is my place in order of a human existence. 

 

Jesus Christ describing the future and the last days, which are close or far, wants to turn our sight into eternity. Christ tells, everything must have happed, nothing is able to stop the process of the passing world, even the technology, medicine, and human capability. 

 

It is a good moment to think about it, while in November we pray for our departed, meditating about the passing of this life. 

 

We need to ask ourselves, where am I going to, where is my definite destination? The Lord put the question, what is your real future about? 

 

The question of Jesus gives us a task to be concerned about my redemption and eternity. 

 

He says, your endurance will your life. Amen.

Gdy niektórzy mówili o świątyni, że jest przyozdobiona pięknymi kamieniami i darami, Jezus powiedział: ”Przyjdzie czas, kiedy z tego, na co patrzycie, nie zostanie kamień na kamieniu, który by nie był zwalony”. Zapytali Go: ”Nauczycielu, kiedy to nastąpi? I jaki będzie znak, gdy się to dziać zacznie?”. Jezus odpowiedział: ”Strzeżcie się, żeby was nie zwiedziono. Wielu bowiem przyjdzie pod moim imieniem i będą mówić: "Ja jestem" oraz "nadszedł czas". Nie chodźcie za nimi. I nie trwóżcie się, gdy posłyszycie o wojnach i przewrotach. To najpierw musi się stać, ale nie zaraz nastąpi koniec”. Wtedy mówił do nich: ”Powstanie naród przeciw narodowi i królestwo przeciw królestwu. Będą silne trzęsienia ziemi, a miejscami głód i zaraza; ukażą się straszne zjawiska i wielkie znaki na niebie. Lecz przed tym wszystkim podniosą na was ręce i będą was prześladować. Wydadzą was do synagog i do więzień oraz z powodu mojego imienia wlec was będą do królów i namiestników. Będzie to dla was sposobność do składania świadectwa. Postanówcie sobie w sercu nie obmyślać naprzód swej obrony. Ja bowiem dam wam wymowę i mądrość, której żaden z waszych prześladowców nie będzie się mógł oprzeć ani się sprzeciwić. A wydawać was będą nawet rodzice i bracia, krewni i przyjaciele i niektórych z was o śmierć przyprawią. I z powodu mojego imienia będziecie w nienawiści u wszystkich. Ale włos z głowy wam nie zginie. Przez swoją wytrwałość ocalicie wasze życie”.

XXXIII Niedziela Zwykła. Rok C. 2022.

 

 

Słowa Pana mogą nas przerazić, ponieważ Jezus stwarza wizję zniszczenia i Apokalipsy. Czytanie z Ewangelii Łukasza dla nas, ludzi XXI wieku, przyzwyczajonych do komfortu i panowania nad wszystkim, perspektywa klęski żywiołowej, prześladowań i braku kontroli nad tym życiem, może nas przestraszyć.

 

Okoliczności te pokazują, jak bardzo zaakceptowaliśmy, że wszystko należy do nas, a człowiek może rządzić każdym aspektem życia.

Pan mówi, mylisz się człowieku, nie myśl, cały świat jest ci poddany z bez obowiązków i konsekwencji.

 

Nie jesteś „panem”. Musimy wiedzieć, gdzie jest moje miejsce w porządku ludzkiej egzystencji.

 

Jezus Chrystus opisując przyszłość i ostatnie dni, które są bliskie lub dalekie, chce zwrócić nasz wzrok ku wieczności. Chrystus mówi, wszystko musiało się wydarzyć, nic nie jest w stanie zatrzymać procesu przemijającego świata, nawet technologia, medycyna i ludzkie możliwości.

 

To dobry moment do zastanowienia się na tym, w listopadzie modlimy się za naszych zmarłych, rozważając przemijanie tego życia.

 

Musimy zadać sobie pytanie, dokąd zmierzam, gdzie jest mój określony cel? Pan zadaje pytanie, jaka jest twoja prawdziwa przyszłość?

 

Pytanie Jezusa stawia przed nami zadanie troski o moje odkupienie i wieczność.

 

Chrystus mówi, przez swoją wytrwałość ocalicie wasze życie. Amen.
