Chest the King... Jezus, Król Wszechświata...

 

Luke 23:35-43

'Today you will be with me in paradise'

The people stayed there before the cross watching Jesus. As for the leaders, they jeered at him. ‘He saved others,’ they said ‘let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.’ The soldiers mocked him too, and when they approached to offer vinegar they said, ‘If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.’ Above him there was an inscription: ‘This is the King of the Jews.’

  One of the criminals hanging there abused him. ‘Are you not the Christ?’ he said. ‘Save yourself and us as well.’ But the other spoke up and rebuked him. ‘Have you no fear of God at all?’ he said. ‘You got the same sentence as he did, but in our case we deserved it: we are paying for what we did. But this man has done nothing wrong. Jesus,’ he said ‘remember me when you come into your kingdom.’ ‘Indeed, I promise you,’ he replied ‘today you will be with me in paradise.’

   The last Sunday of the Year traditionally is celebrated as the Solemnity of Christ the King. Every year of our faith starts of the Mystery of the Lord’s second coming and his incarnation (Advent, Christmas), and we end the time, gazing the eyes into his Kingdom. The teaching of the Church says, the Kingdom of Jesus is eternal, powerful, and as we read in the letter of St. Paul to the Philippians, everything will be submitted to Christ at the end of this world. 

 

But reading the Gospel of Luke, we may think, something is wrong.  The message of the Church stands in the contrary to the facts of the Gospel. Where is the splendour, glory, and power of Christ? We see only pain, humiliation and laughing from his persecutors.

 

All the concept of the reigning of God over the world, it does not fit to our imagination. Yes, that right, it does not fit to our thinking and the concept of reigning, and so we say, his Kingdom is eternal, because is built on compassion, love, and mercy, not on force, umbrage, and ruling for every prize. Jesus Christ has become the King of human souls, which lasts forever. 

 

Let’s look at the two criminalists, crucified with Jesus. The first one rebuked Christ, saying the same like the crowd; show you power, save us of the torture. The second had recognized the Messiah, and said: Jesus, have mercy on me. He won life because the Lord told him; you will be with me in the Paradise. 

 

This is the Kingdom of God, to acknowledge, yes Lord you are my Saviour, take me with you into heaven, which is powerful of your love and victory. You have won, not me, and because of you victory, I may be a part of it. 

 

I remember a performance, which I used to do with my students in hight school for Christmas. The message and the plot were about two friends, who went for Christmas to the Mountains. The friendship was strong the between of them, but what divided them, it was about faith. The first was unbeliever, and the second one had a strong faith. Because of the difference of the belief, they had a lot of conversations. On Christmas eve, the one of them said, go with me to the church to Mass. He responded, no, I go for a walk to the Mountains, and they went to their directions.  

 

After all, a religious man was concerned, his friend is not back. It occurred, for him, it was the last walk to the Mountain, because he fell into abyss, been broken without any rescue for many hours. He was dying lonely, arguing with God.  In the last minutes of his life, knowing nobody can help, with the rest strength of his voice, he cried out, The Nazarene Jesus Christ, you have won, and he passed away. 

 

This is the Kingdom of God, to say, Jesus, you have won, like the criminalist from the cross and that man from the performance, Christ have mercy on me, and take me with you to your certain place. Amen. 

 

(Łk 23,35-43) 
Gdy ukrzyżowano Jezusa, lud stał i patrzył. Lecz członkowie Wysokiej Rady drwiąco mówili: ”Innych wybawiał, niechże teraz siebie wybawi, jeśli On jest Mesjaszem, Wybrańcem Bożym”. Szydzili z Niego i żołnierze; podchodzili do Niego i podawali Mu ocet, mówiąc: ”Jeśli Ty jesteś królem żydowskim, wybaw sam siebie”. Był także nad Nim napis w języku greckim, łacińskim i hebrajskim: ”To jest król żydowski”. Jeden ze złoczyńców, których tam powieszono, urągał Mu: ”Czy Ty nie jesteś Mesjaszem? Wybaw więc siebie i nas”. Lecz drugi, karcąc go, rzekł: ”Ty nawet Boga się nie boisz, chociaż tę samą karę ponosisz? My przecież sprawiedliwie, odbieramy bowiem słuszną karę za nasze uczynki, ale On nic złego nie uczynił”. I dodał: ”Jezu, wspomnij na mnie, gdy przyjdziesz do swego królestwa”. Jezus mu odpowiedział: ”Zaprawdę powiadam ci: Dziś ze Mną będziesz w raju”.

   Ostatnia niedziela roku, tradycyjnie obchodzona jest jako Uroczystość Chrystusa Króla. Każdy rok naszej wiary rozpoczyna się Misterium powtórnego przyjścia Pana i Jego Wcielenia (Adwent, Boże Narodzenie), a kończymy ten czas wpatrując się oczyma w Jego Królestwo. Nauczanie Kościoła mówi, że Królestwo Jezusa jest wieczne, potężne i jak czytamy w liście św. Pawła do Filipian, na końcu świata wszystko zostanie poddane Chrystusowi.

 

Czytając Ewangelię Łukasza, możemy pomyśleć, że coś jest nie tak. Przesłanie Kościoła stoi w sprzeczności z faktami Ewangelii. Gdzie jest splendor, chwała i moc Chrystusa? Widzimy tylko ból, upokorzenie i śmiech jego prześladowców.

 

Cała koncepcja panowania Boga nad światem nie pasuje do naszej wyobraźni. Tak, to prawda, nie pasuje to do naszego myślenia i koncepcji panowania. Mówimy, że Jego Królestwo jest wieczne, ponieważ jest zbudowane na współczuciu, miłości i miłosierdziu, a nie na sile, urazie i panowaniu za wszelką cenę. Jezus Chrystus stał się Królem dusz ludzkich, który trwa na wieki.

 

Przyjrzyjmy się dwóm złoczyńcom, którzy zawiśli z Jezusem. Pierwszy zgromił Chrystusa, mówiąc to samo jak tłum; pokaż swoją moc, chroń nas przed torturami. Drugi rozpoznał Mesjasza i powiedział: Jezu, zmiłuj się nade mną. Ten drugi wygrał życie, ponieważ Pan mu odpowiedział; będziesz ze mną w Raju.

 

Na tym polega Królestwo Boże, aby uznać; tak Panie, jesteś moim Zbawicielem, zabierz mnie ze sobą do nieba, które jest potężne Twoją miłością i zwycięstwem. Ty wygrałeś, nie ja, i dzięki tobie mogę być tego częścią.

 

Pamiętam przedstawienie, które wykonałem z uczniami w liceum na Boże Narodzenie. Przesłanie i fabuła dotyczyły dwóch przyjaciół, którzy wybrali się na Boże Narodzenie w góry. Przyjaźń między nimi była silna, ale to, co ich podzieliło, dotyczyło wiary. Pierwszy był niewierzący, a drugi miał silną wiarę. Z powodu różnic miedzy sobą, rozmawiali ze sobą. W Wigilię jeden z nich powiedział, choć ze mną do kościoła na Mszę. Przyjaciel odpowiedział, nie, idę na spacer w Góry, a potem rozeszli się w swoje strony.

 

Jeden z nich zaniepokoił się, że jego przyjaciel nie wrócił z gór. Zdarzyło się, że był to dla niego ostatni, upadając w przepaść, połamany bez ratunku przez wiele godzin. Umierał samotnie, kłócąc się z Bogiem. W ostatnich minutach życia, wiedząc, że nikt nie może mupomóc, resztką głosu zawołał: Nazarejczyk Jezu Chryste, zwyciężyłeś, po kilku sekundach ten człowiek zmarł.

 

Na tym polega Królestwo Boże, aby powiedzieć, Jezu, wygrałeś, jak drugi łotr z krzyża i ten człowiek z przedstawienia. Chryste zmiłuj się nade mną i zabierz mnie ze sobą do swojegomiejsca. Amen.
