Luke 19:28-40

Blessings on him who comes in the name of the Lord.

Jesus went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.

When he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany,

at the mount that is called Olivet,

he sent two disciples,

saying, ‘Go into the village opposite,

where on entering you will find a colt tied,

on which no one has ever yet sat;

untie it and bring it here.

If any one asks you,

“Why are you untying it?”

you shall say this,

“The Lord has need of it.”’

So those who were sent

went away and found it as he had told them.

And as they were untying the colt,

its owners said to them,

‘Why are you untying the colt?’

And they said,

‘The Lord has need of it.’

And they brought it to Jesus,

and throwing their garments on the colt

they set Jesus upon it.

And as he rode along,

they spread their garments on the road.

As he was drawing near,

at the descent of the Mount of Olives,

the whole multitude of the disciples

began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice

for all the mighty works that they had seen,

saying,

‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!

Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!’

And some of the Pharisees in the multitude said to him,

‘Teacher, rebuke your disciples.’

He answered,

‘I tell you, if these were silent,

the very stones would cry out.’

   On Palm Sunday, we start the most Holy and essential week, called Holy Week of the Passion, Death, and the Resurrection of Christ. 

 

Today, in many churches around the world, the priests or deacons are reading the two Gospels of Luke. The first reports the Triumphant Entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem, and the second one is about his Passion and Death. Because of that, this Sunday is called the Sunday of the Lord's Passion. 

 

This Holy Week shows about different emotions of the people in Jerusalem. In that place was mixed happiness with enthusiasm in the beginning (the entrance of Jesus). Then, however, a couple of days ago, the same people were full of aggression and hatred towards Christ. And finally, on Easter Day, everything went back to normal; the same society was involved in daily life. 

 

We are welcome to enter the Mystery of Christ during this week, which is the peak of our faith. Let do that with devotion, meditation, and calmness to understand what Jesus has done for us through his Death and Resurrection. His Blood has saved us. Amen.

Wjazd Jezusa do Jerozolimy

Słowa Ewangelii według Świętego Łukasza

Jezus szedł naprzód, zdążając do Jerozolimy.

Gdy przybliżył się do Betfage i Betanii, ku górze zwanej Oliwną, wysłał dwóch spośród uczniów, mówiąc: «Idźcie do wsi, która jest naprzeciwko, a wchodząc do niej, znajdziecie uwiązane oślę, którego nie dosiadał żaden człowiek. Odwiążcie je i przyprowadźcie. A gdyby was kto pytał: „Dlaczego odwiązujecie?”, tak powiecie: „Pan go potrzebuje”».

Wysłani poszli i znaleźli wszystko tak, jak im powiedział.

A gdy odwiązywali oślę, zapytali ich jego właściciele: «Czemu odwiązujecie oślę?»

Odpowiedzieli: «Pan go potrzebuje».

I przyprowadzili je do Jezusa, a zarzuciwszy na nie swe płaszcze, wsadzili na nie Jezusa. Gdy jechał, słali swe płaszcze na drodze. Zbliżał się już do zboczy Góry Oliwnej, kiedy całe mnóstwo uczniów zaczęło wielbić radośnie Boga za wszystkie cuda, które widzieli. I mówili głosem donośnym:

«Błogosławiony Król,

który przychodzi w imię Pańskie.

Pokój w niebie

i chwała na wysokościach».

Lecz niektórzy faryzeusze spośród tłumu rzekli do Niego: «Nauczycielu, zabroń tego swoim uczniom!»

Odrzekł: «Powiadam wam: Jeśli ci umilkną, kamienie wołać będą».

   W Niedzielę Palmową rozpoczynamy Najświętszy i najistotniejszy tydzień, zwany Wielkim Tygodniem Męki, Śmierci i Zmartwychwstania Chrystusa.

 

Dziś w wielu kościołach na całym świecie księża lub diakoni czytają dwie Ewangelie Łukasza. Pierwsza opowiada o triumfalnym wejściu Jezusa do Jerozolimy, a druga o Jego męce i śmierci. Dlatego ta niedziela nazywana jest Niedzielą Męki Pańskiej.

 

Ten Wielki Tydzień pokazuje różne emocje ludzi w Jerozolimie. W tym mieście na początku pomieszało się szczęście z entuzjazmem (wjazd Jezusa). Potem jednak, kilka dni temu, ci sami ludzie byli pełni agresji i nienawiści do Chrystusa. I wreszcie, w Wielkanoc, wszystko wróciło do normy; to samo społeczeństwo było zaangażowane w życie codzienne.

 

Jesteśmy zaproszeni do wejścia w Tajemnicę Chrystusa i tego tygodnia, który jest szczytem naszej wiary. Czyńmy to z oddaniem, medytacją i spokojem, aby zrozumieć głębiej, co Jezus uczynił dla nas przez swoją Śmierć i Zmartwychwstanie. Jego Krew nas zbawiła. Amen.
