John 20:1-9

He must rise from the dead

It was very early on the first day of the week and still dark, when Mary of Magdala came to the tomb. She saw that the stone had been moved away from the tomb and came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved. ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb’ she said ‘and we don’t know where they have put him.’

  So Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb. They ran together, but the other disciple, running faster than Peter, reached the tomb first; he bent down and saw the linen cloths lying on the ground, but did not go in. Simon Peter who was following now came up, went right into the tomb, saw the linen cloths on the ground, and also the cloth that had been over his head; this was not with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in; he saw and he believed. Till this moment they had failed to understand the teaching of scripture, that he must rise from the dead.

   Today we are celebrating the peak (culmination) of our faith. On this dawn of Easter Sunday, the King of Life wakes up from death; it happed the greater miracle of history. 

 

From the point of view of those people in Jerusalem 2000 years ago, it was a typical day when life went back to normal. The city inhabitants were probably commenting on what was happening that day; some of them felt relief, that's the end, some of them were in grief that their Master and Friend was dead. The only one who had faith, she may have seen his Son soon; it was Mary, the Mother of Jesus. 

 

Suddenly, the whole situation changed with Jesus; happiness and disbelief took the place of sorrow; the Lord has appeared again as the Conqueror of death. He showed himself to the Apostles; I am he, who saved you. 

 

On this day, we are the witnesses of the same miracle. It is a solemn day of Christ's Resurrection. The memorial of that event is done through the liturgy of the Church while we commemorate his Victory. Therefore, Easter Sunday is the most crucial time, the Sunday of Sundays during the year. We celebrate in faith and through the presence in Church to profess the truth; He is alive. 

 

Of course, for now, we can have the same feeling as people in Jerusalem and the Apostles; Jesus is Risen, but the world is bereaved in hopelessness and sadness. We know that Jesus rose from death, and it seems to us that moment does not change the situation when we have war in Europe; many people are suffering in tears, and some of them lose a life. In addition, we face problems in daily life and family tragedies. 

We ask, where is God, and where is his Victory? But, apart from that, we see that everything that is material is temporal because someone in one second may damage all these things. On the other hand, the comfort of many in Europe and the World may become obstacles to helping others. We see how many people from the Western World are resistant to help at the price of their comfortable life. Today we have become the hostage of our comfort.  

 

It is challenging to celebrate Easter, especially for those who suffer in many ways. But, on this day, the Lord says; I am the Conqueror of death and your obstacles; the power and grace belong to me. Yes, I see many things in your life, these nice and those problematic, which can cloud my Victory and happiness, but I am more powerful than that. 

 

Everything is happening for now; it is temporal. I am eternal and endless. Easter Sunday, this is the day of life and a miracle. How many children are born today (new life)? How many dying people go to heaven because of the Lord's Resurrection? These are the miracles of The Risen God. 

 

Let us celebrate this day with joy and happiness, that our Lord is with us, and the truth of his Resurrection is sound well. Amen.

Pierwszego dnia po szabacie, wczesnym rankiem, gdy jeszcze było ciemno, Maria Magdalena udała się do grobu i zobaczyła kamień odsunięty od grobu. Pobiegła więc i przybyła do Szymona Piotra i do drugiego ucznia, którego Jezus kochał, i rzekła do nich: Zabrano Pana z grobu i nie wiemy, gdzie Go położono. Wszedł on do wnętrza grobu i ujrzał leżące płótna oraz chustę, która była na Jego głowie, leżącą nie razem z płótnami, ale oddzielnie zwiniętą na jednym miejscu. Wtedy wszedł do wnętrza także i ów drugi uczeń, który przybył pierwszy do grobu. Ujrzał i uwierzył. Dotąd bowiem nie rozumieli jeszcze Pisma, które mówi, że On ma powstać z martwych.

   Dziś świętujemy szczyt (kulminację) naszej wiary. O świcie Niedzieli Wielkanocnej, Król Życia budzi się ze śmierci; dokonał się największy cud historii.

 

Z punktu widzenia mieszkańców Jerozolimy 2000 lat temu był to typowy dzień, w którym życie wróciło do normy. Mieszkańcy miasta prawdopodobnie komentowali to, co działo się tego dnia; niektórzy z nich poczuli ulgę, to koniec, niektórzy z nich byli pełni żalu, że ich Mistrz i Przyjaciel nie żyją. Jako jedyna, która miała wiarę, to była Maryja, Matka Jezusa.

 

Nagle cała sytuacja zmieniła; szczęście i niewiara zajęły miejsce smutku; Pan pojawił się ponownie jako Zwycięzca śmierci. Ukazał się On Apostołom, mówiąc; Jestem tym, który Was zbawił.

 

W tym dniu dzisiejszym jesteśmy świadkami tego samego cudu. Jest to uroczysty dzień Zmartwychwstania Chrystusa. Pamiątka tego wydarzenia dokonuje się poprzez liturgię Kościoła, gdy my wspominamy jego Zwycięstwo. Dlatego Niedziela Wielkanocna to najważniejszy czas, Niedziela Niedziel w ciągu roku. Sprawując Mszę św. w kościele wyznanie prawdy; On żyje.

 

Po ludzku, możemy mieć to samo uczucie, co ludzie w Jerozolimie i Apostołowie; Jezus zmartwychwstał, ale świat jest pogrążony w beznadziei i smutku. Wiemy, że Jezus zmartwychwstał i wydaje nam się, że ten moment nie zmienia sytuacji, gdy mamy wojnę w Europie; wiele osób cierpi ze łzami w oczach, a niektórzy tracą życie. Ponadto spotykamy się z problemami w życiu codziennym i tragediami rodzinnymi.

Pytamy, gdzie jest Bóg, a gdzie Jego Zwycięstwo? Poza tym widzimy, że wszystko co materialne, jest doczesne, ponieważ ktoś w jednej sekundzie może to zniszczyć. Z drugiej strony, komfort wielu osób w Europie i na świecie może stać się przeszkodą w pomaganiu innym. Widzimy, jak wielu ludzi ze świata zachodniego jest opornych na pomoc za cenę wygodnego życia. Dziś staliśmy się zakładnikami naszej wygody.

 

Świętowanie Wielkanocy jest wyzwaniem, szczególnie dla tych, którzy cierpią na wiele sposobów. Dzisiaj Pan mówi; Ja Jestem Zwycięzcą śmierci i waszych trudności; moc i łaska należą do mnie. To prawda, widzę w Twoim życiu wiele rzeczy, tych miłych i tych problematycznych, które mogą przyćmić Moje zwycięstwo i szczęście, ale Ja Jestem potężniejszy niż to.

 

Wszystko co dzieje się teraz, jest doczesne. Moja osoba jest wieczna i nieskończona. Niedziela Wielkanocna, to dzień życia i cudu. Ileż dzieci rodzi się dzisiaj (nowe życie)? Ilu umierających trafia do nieba, mocą Zmartwychwstania Pana? To są cuda Zmartwychwstałego Boga.

 

Świętujmy ten dzień z radością i szczęściem, nasz Pan jest z nami, a prawda o Jego Zmartwychwstaniu brzmi doniośle. Amen.
