John 1:1-18

The Word was made flesh, and lived among us

In the beginning was the Word:

and the Word was with God

and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things came to be,

not one thing had its being but through him.

All that came to be had life in him

and that life was the light of men,

a light that shines in the dark,

a light that darkness could not overpower.

A man came, sent by God.

His name was John.

He came as a witness,

as a witness to speak for the light,

so that everyone might believe through him.

He was not the light,

only a witness to speak for the light.

The Word was the true light

that enlightens all men;

and he was coming into the world.

He was in the world

that had its being through him,

and the world did not know him.

He came to his own domain

and his own people did not accept him.

But to all who did accept him

he gave power to become children of God,

to all who believe in the name of him

who was born not out of human stock

or urge of the flesh

or will of man

but of God himself.

The Word was made flesh,

he lived among us,

and we saw his glory,

the glory that is his as the only Son of the Father,

full of grace and truth.

John appears as his witness. He proclaims:

‘This is the one of whom I said:

He who comes after me ranks before me

because he existed before me.’

Indeed, from his fullness we have, all of us, received –

yes, grace in return for grace,

since, though the Law was given through Moses,

grace and truth have come through Jesus Christ.

No one has ever seen God;

it is the only Son, who is nearest to the Father’s heart,

who has made him known.

" In the beginning was the world. The word was made flesh". 

 

The Gospel according to John it seems to us a very philosophical, with plenty of the same words and sentence. 

 

What does it mean, that the word become flesh? The Eternal God, who had created the whole universal, by the Mystery of the Incarnation he showed great love, and he wanted share himself the human fate. God has come to this world, to elevate with his almighty power of the human condition, which so often miserable and broken by many crises, dangers and spiritual poverty.  

 

Pope Francis in his sermon for the Evening Prayer on the last day of 2020, emphasised, it is difficult to do our thanksgiving for the departing year, because of so much pain, many people lost their relatives, who died of the coronavirus. A lot of people have become lonely, unemployed, but first of all they have lost hope. Unfortunately, all these things concern the previous year 2021. 

 

From the human point of view, there is any reason, to say thank you, but at the same time, the Pope indicates on the spiritual aspect and the crib in Bethlehem. The Eternal Son has come, to these people, who are mourn, without any hope, and perspective for a better life. God, who is perfect, he would have stayed in heaven, to joy of eternal glory, he had decided to come down into haven, and he took part in our human nature. His compassion is so huge, that He wants to share our earthy fate with us. This is his desire to elevate our nature into his dignity trough his Nativity and Redemption.  

 

 

His is Emmanuel, God with us, who never abandons in need. 

 

 

One of the French philosophers, Descartes used to say, that God gave a movement to this world, and the globe and whole universe are working without his interference. He behaves, as he would have been a watchmaker, without any reaction. 

In this pandemic time, we may think, this is true. Why God does not react? So much pain, a lot of dangers and tragedy around us. 

 

But today, even more, God says to us, I am with you, sharing your fear and uncertainty. 2000 years ago, I was born in the stable, in poverty, within human rejection and ignorance, but I want to be with you. 

 

Do not be afraid, I have conquered this world and every pain and discomfort. Trust me, I am Emmanuel, God, who is close to you. These words are important for, while we are starting a New Year of my life. Amen.

Na początku było Słowo, a Słowo było u Boga, i Bogiem było Słowo. Ono było na początku u Boga. Wszystko przez Nie się stało, a bez Niego nic się nie stało, co się stało. W Nim było życie, a życie było światłością ludzi, a światłość w ciemności świeci i ciemność jej nie ogarnęła. Pojawił się człowiek posłany przez Boga - Jan mu było na imię. Przyszedł on na świadectwo, aby zaświadczyć o światłości, by wszyscy uwierzyli przez niego. Nie był on światłością, lecz /posłanym/, aby zaświadczyć o światłości. Była światłość prawdziwa, która oświeca każdego człowieka, gdy na świat przychodzi. Na świecie było /Słowo/, a świat stał się przez Nie, lecz świat Go nie poznał. Przyszło do swojej własności, a swoi Go nie przyjęli. Wszystkim tym jednak, którzy Je przyjęli, dało moc, aby się stali dziećmi Bożymi, tym, którzy wierzą w imię Jego - którzy ani z krwi, ani z żądzy ciała, ani z woli męża, ale z Boga się narodzili. A Słowo stało się ciałem i zamieszkało wśród nas. I oglądaliśmy Jego chwałę, chwałę, jaką Jednorodzony otrzymuje od Ojca, pełen łaski i prawdy. Jan daje o Nim świadectwo i głośno woła w słowach: Ten był, o którym powiedziałem: Ten, który po mnie idzie, przewyższył mnie godnością, gdyż był wcześniej ode mnie. Z Jego pełności wszyscyśmy otrzymali - łaskę po łasce. Podczas gdy Prawo zostało nadane przez Mojżesza, łaska i prawda przyszły przez Jezusa Chrystusa. Boga nikt nigdy nie widział, Ten Jednorodzony Bóg, który jest w łonie Ojca, /o Nim/ pouczył. 

„Na początku było Słowo, a Słowo było u Boga, i Bogiem było Słowo"

Ewangelia według Jana wydaje nam się bardzo filozoficzna, z dużą ilością tych samych słów i zdań.

Co to znaczy, że słowo stało się ciałem? Odwieczny Bóg, który stworzył cały wszechświat, przez Tajemnicę Wcielenia okazał wielką miłość,podzieląc nasz ludzki los. Bóg przyszedł na ten świat, aby wynieść ku górze swoją wszechmocą kondycję ludzką, tak często nędzną i złamaną licznymi kryzysami, niebezpieczeństwami i ubóstwem duchowym.

Papież Franciszek w swoim kazaniu na Nieszpory w ostatni dzień 2020 roku podkreślił, że trudno jest nam dziękować za mijający rok, z powodu tak wielkiego bólu wiele osób straciło swoich bliskich, którzy zmarli na koronawirusa. Wiele osób stało się samotnych, bezrobotnych, ale przede wszystkim straciło nadzieję. Te słowa można odnieść do minionego roku 2021.

Czy jest jakiś powód by dziękować za miniony rok? Jednocześnie Papież wskazuje na aspekt duchowy i żłóbek w Betlejem. Do tych ludzi, którzy są w żałobie, bez nadziei i perspektyw na lepsze życie, przyszedł Wieczny Syn. Bóg, który jest doskonały, postanowił zejść na ziemię i brał udział w naszej ludzkiej naturze. Jego współczucie jest tak ogromne, że chce podzielić się z nami naszym ziemskim losem. Jest to jego pragnienie wyniesienia naszej natury do Jego godności poprzez Boże Narodzenie i Odkupienie.

Jest on jest Emmanuel, Bóg z nami, który nigdy nie porzuca  w potrzebie.

Jeden z francuskich filozofów, Kartezjusz mawiał, że Bóg dał ruch temu światu, a glob i cały wszechświat działają bez jego ingerencji. Zachowuje się, jakby był zegarmistrzem, bez żadnej reakcji.

W czasach pandemii możemy pomyśleć, że to prawda. Dlaczego Bóg nie reaguje? Tyle bólu, wiele niebezpieczeństw i tragedii wokół nas.

Ale dzisiaj jeszcze bardziej, Bóg mówi do nas, Jestem z wami, dzieląc wasz lęk i niepewność. 2000 lat temu urodziłem się w stajni, w biedzie, w ludzkim odrzuceniu i ignorancji, ale chcę być z wami.

Nie bój się, zaufaj mi, jestem Emmanuelem, Bogiem, który jest ci bliski. Te słowa ważne, gdy zaczynamy Nowy Rok życia. Amen.
