The commandments of love
Once again Jesus Christ was asked some difficult questions. Which commandment is the biggest? Today’s Gospel according to Matthew is a good occasion to remind us about the fundamental rule of Christian life. Jesus repeated the most important commandment given by Lord: "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets also".
The foundation of our faith is love to God and other people. No matter where do they come from. Hatred does not go hand in hand with Christianity and pushes us away from God.
As we talk about love I would like to focus on one issue – what is wise love? It may sound strange because we always consider love to be good.
Only prudent love is able to give us real happiness and don't hurt other people. What do I mean? Love is demanding and has a lot of expectations. It is not easy to build a good relationship as it demands a lot of wisdom.
During one pilgrimage to Poland John Paul II said to young people: " You must demand of yourselves, even if others would not demand of you." (musicie od siebie wymagać, nawet gdyby inni od was nie wymagali).
Love without duties depraves and teaches us laziness. I’ve met a lot of people who do not demand from their children, husbands or wives. They do everything for them because they feel pity and want to help them. But the result is the opposite, they spoil them even more.
Sometimes compassion creates a circle. We want to help other people but we do it in a wrong way and the whole situation gets even worse. We have to love others, but prudently and remember about our responsibility towards these people that we love.
Blind love destroys our civilization. How will the next generation look like depends on us. Love should always be responsible.
God help us to learn the right love. Amen
On mu odpowiedział: „Będziesz miłował Pana Boga swego całym swoim sercem, całą swoją duszą i całym swoim umysłem”. To jest największe i pierwsze przykazanie. Drugie podobne jest do niego: „Będziesz miłował swego bliźniego jak siebie samego”. Na tych dwóch przykazaniach zawisło całe Prawo i Prorocy".
