John 14:15-21

I shall ask the Father and he will give you another Advocate

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘If you love me you will keep my commandments.

I shall ask the Father,

and he will give you another Advocate

to be with you for ever,

that Spirit of truth

whom the world can never receive

since it neither sees nor knows him;

but you know him,

because he is with you, he is in you.

I will not leave you orphans;

I will come back to you.

In a short time the world will no longer see me;

but you will see me,

because I live and you will live.

On that day you will understand that I am in my Father

and you in me and I in you.

Anybody who receives my commandments and keeps them

will be one who loves me;

and anybody who loves me will be loved by my Father,

and I shall love him and show myself to him.’

During the Sixth Sunday of Easter we read the Gospel of John, which reports a conversation between Jesus and His disciple. Shortly before death, Christ promised the apostles a gift from the Father – the Holy Spirit. He said that the Holy Spirit would teach them everything and show them what to do. Jesus also promised to be with them forever. 

This passage from the John’s Gospel contains a very important message for us, about the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit. The liturgy of Sunday introduces us into the celebration of the Descendance of the Holy Spirit. 

God does not leave us, but according to the words of Jesus, the Third Person of the Holy Trinity is with us. I can say even more, The Holy Spirit is the life and the power of the Church. Everything what the Church does, is full of the power of the Holy Spirit.

The whole concept of the Gospel is hidden in Christ’s words which invite us to life in accordance with the guidlines of the Spirit given by God. But the essential question is: what does it mean to live in accordance with the guidelines of the Holy Spirit? Let’s try to understand it.

The gift of the Holy Ghost is God’s wisdom. First of all, we have to remember that everyone has the internal voice of conscience, which allows us to hear God. It is the instrument of the Holy Spirit, which helps us to make good decisions. The voice of conscience says that we should choose what is good and reject evil. Those people, who are guided by God, live in truth. 

Tomorrow, we will celebrate the 100 Anniversary of the birthday of Saint John Paul the Second (18 May 1920). That man, and later a pope, used to pray to the Holy Spirit, asking for the power to fulfil God’s will. He consulted with God, what should he do, as a man and the pope.

The Holy Ghost makes able us to protect Christian dignity and God. Gives us courage to show our disagreement. Especially today, we must defend our faith, when many people fight against God and our values. Nowadays, we are facing with aggressive attack on God, and we have to say: stop it, please do not offend my faith. We need the courage from the Holy Spirit, to say that we do not agree, if someone insults our values and religion. 

We, as Christians, are still the majority, but the problem is that very few of us have the courage to say: I don’t allow to offend my God. And this is our weakness. 

Another question is, what the wisdom of the Holy Spirit is about? We may find the answer in the words of Jesus, in the God’s commandments and teaching. He says, if someone loves me, he will keep my commandments. The objective truth we may find only in Jesus and His teaching. 

In a couple days we will start the Novena to the Holy Spirit. Today, let us pray to God for the guidelines from the Holy Spirit. Thanks to them, we will be able to find real life in us. Life in accordance with God’s words. Amen.

Jezus powiedział do swoich uczniów: "Jeżeli Mnie miłujecie, będziecie zachowywać moje przykazania. Ja zaś będę prosił Ojca, a innego Pocieszyciela da wam, aby z wami był na zawsze, Ducha Prawdy, którego świat przyjąć nie może, ponieważ Go nie widzi ani nie zna. Ale wy Go znacie, ponieważ u was przebywa i w was będzie. Nie zostawię was sierotami: Przyjdę do was. Jeszcze chwila, a świat nie będzie już Mnie oglądał. Ale wy Mnie widzicie, ponieważ Ja żyję i wy żyć będziecie. W owym dniu poznacie, że Ja jestem w Ojcu moim, a wy we Mnie i Ja w was. Kto ma przykazania moje i zachowuje je, ten Mnie miłuje. Kto zaś Mnie miłuje, ten będzie umiłowany przez Ojca mego, a również Ja będę go miłował i objawię mu siebie".

Szósta Niedziela Wielkanocna przedstawia Ewangelię Jana, która relacjonuje rozmowę Jezusa z uczniami. Chrystus bezpośrednio przed swoją Męką i Śmiercią obiecał Dar Ojca, Ducha Świętego. Moje odejście jest konieczne, ponieważ Mój Ojciec da wam innego Pocieszyciela, którym jest Duch Święty, on (Duch Święty) pouczy o wszystkim, co robić. Poza tym Jezus mówi, że nie jesteście sierotami, ale On jestem z wami na zawsze.

Ten fragment Ewangelii Jana zapowiada obietnicę Pocieszyciela, Trzeciej Osobie Trójcy Świętej. Liturgia niedzieli wprowadza nas w celebrację, która odbędzie się za dwa tygodnie, w Święto Zesłania Ducha Świętego.

Bóg nas nie opuszcza, ale zgodnie ze słowami Jezusa, przez 2000 lat do dziś Trzecia Osoba Trójcy Świętej jest z nami. Możemy powiedzieć więcej: Duch Święty jest życiem i mocą Kościoła. Wszystko, co robi Kościół, czyni to w mocy Ducha Świętego.

Cała koncepcja Ewangelii jest ukryta w słowach Chrystusa, które zachęcają nas do życia zgodnie z Duchem, który został dany przez Boga. Ale zasadnicze pytanie brzmi: co to znaczy żyć zgodnie z Duchem Świętym? Spróbujmy to lepiej zrozumieć.

Darem Ducha Świętego jest mądrość Boga. Przede wszystkim, aby mieć w sobie mnie życie Boga, trzeba kierować się Duchem Świętym. Każdy ma wewnętrzny głos sumienia, aby usłyszeć Boga. Ten jeden głos jest narzędziem Ducha Świętego, aby móc podjąć dobrą decyzję w moim życiu. Głos sumienia mówi: wybierz dobro i odrzuć zło. Ludzie, kierowani przez Boga, pomnażają dobre rzeczy i żyją w prawdzie.

Jutro będziemy obchodzić 100 rocznicę urodzin świętego Jana Pawła II (18 maja 1920 r.). Ten człowiek i Papież później modlili się do Ducha Świętego, prosząc o gotowość pełnienia woli Bożej. Konsultował to z Bogiem, co powinien czynić jako człowiek i papież.

Życie w orbicie Ducha Świętego jest drogą i odpowiedzialnością za moją wiarę w Jezusa Chrystusa. Duch Święty pozwala nam chronić chrześcijańską godność i Boga.  Wszędzie tam, gdzie widzimy niemoralność, powinniśmy okazać naszą dezaprobatę. Zwłaszcza dzisiaj musimy bronić naszej wiary, gdy wielu ludzi walczy z Bogiem i naszymi wartościami. W dzisiejszych czasach mamy do czynienia z agresywnym atakiem na Boga, musimy powiedzieć, dosyć, nie obrażajcie mojej wiary. Potrzebujemy mocy Ducha Świętego, mówiąc: Nie zgadzam się na to, jeśli ktoś obraża moje wartości i religię.

Nadal jesteśmy większością jako chrześcijanie, ale problem polega na tym, że bardzo niewielu z nas jest w stanie powiedzieć, że nie pozwalam obrażać mojego Boga. I to jest dzisiaj nasza słabością. 

Może pojawić się pytanie, na czym polega mądrość Ducha Świętego? Odpowiedź możemy znaleźć w słowach Jezusa, mądrość jest w Bożych przykazaniach i nauczaniu. Jeśli ktoś mnie kocha, będzie przestrzegać moich przykazań. Cały depozyt nauczania Boga i Kościoła jest mądrością Świętej Trójcy. Obiektywna prawda jest jedna w Jezusie i jego nauczaniu.

Za kilka dni zaczniemy nowennę do Ducha Świętego. Już dzisiaj módlmy się do Boga, aby kierował nami Duch Chrystusa, by mieć w sobie życie Boga. Amen.
