Jesus, the Son of God... Jezus, Syn Boży...

 

Mark 6:1-6

'A prophet is only despised in his own country'

Jesus went to his home town and his disciples accompanied him. With the coming of the sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue and most of them were astonished when they heard him. They said, ‘Where did the man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been granted him, and these miracles that are worked through him? This is the carpenter, surely, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joset and Jude and Simon? His sisters, too, are they not here with us?’ And they would not accept him. And Jesus said to them, ‘A prophet is only despised in his own country, among his own relations and in his own house’; and he could work no miracle there, though he cured a few sick people by laying his hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

    The next Sunday in Ordinary Time presents the Gospel according to Mark, telling about the meeting of Jesus with His compatriots in Nazareth. For sure that moment was expected by the Lord, because it happened in his city, where his family and friends lived. From the human point of view, it would have been happy moment when we can meet with our relatives. 

 

Christ came full of joy and hope. He wanted to reveal his Godhood and the mission of the Son of God. Unfortunately, Jesus was despised by His compatriots, when he was preaching in the synagogue. 

 

Those people were disappointed by the words of the Lord. They thought: who are you? Why do you consider yourself as the God? We know you as the son of Mary and Joseph, a lot of your cousins live here, and yet you say: I am God! 

 

The people of Nazareth thought that Jesus was full of megalomania. Certainty, that experience must have been very difficult for Him because he was rejected by His friends and family. 

 

Because of the lack of faith, Jesus could not reveal His power, only about some people were cured by him. 

 

While we are meditating the today’s Gospel, we may notice some comparison to the modern world. Jesus Christ is coming to his own people called Christians. He wants to show us the power of God and the strength of our faith. He says: I am the Living God, I want to fill your heart with hope, peace, and joy. Unfortunately, most people ignore him. 

 

So often we think that Jesus is not able to impress us with his power and grace. He has nothing to offer. We know that He is the Son of God, that’s all. We cannot recognize His teaching and mission. We know all about Him, so he cannot surprise us with anything. This is the logic of many of us. 

 

Yes, Jesus feels the same like in Nazareth, 2000 years ago, when he was rejected by His own people. But he does not resign. He fights for every soul, wanting to show us his power and he asks us to open our hearts and minds.

 

May this lesson from the Mark’s Gospel make us fervent disciples of Christ, who comes to us and offers his powerful grace and help. Amen. 

  

 

 

(Mk 6, 1-6) 
Jezus przyszedł do swego rodzinnego miasta. A towarzyszyli Mu Jego uczniowie. Gdy zaś nadszedł szabat, zaczął nauczać w synagodze; a wielu, przysłuchując się, pytało ze zdziwieniem: "Skąd to u Niego? I co to za mądrość, która Mu jest dana? I takie cuda dzieją się przez Jego ręce! Czy nie jest to cieśla, syn Maryi, a brat Jakuba, Józefa, Judy i Szymona? Czyż nie żyją tu u nas także Jego siostry?" I powątpiewali o Nim. A Jezus mówił im: "Tylko w swojej ojczyźnie, wśród swoich krewnych i w swoim domu może być prorok tak lekceważony". I nie mógł tam zdziałać żadnego cudu, jedynie na kilku chorych położył ręce i uzdrowił ich. Dziwił się też ich niedowiarstwu. Potem obchodził okoliczne wsie i nauczał.

 

    Ewangelia według Marka, opowiada o spotkaniu Jezusa z rodakami w Nazarecie. Z pewnością Pan oczekiwał tego momentu, gdyż spotkanie miało miejsce w Jego mieście, w którym mieszkała Jego rodzina i przyjaciele. Z ludzkiego punktu widzenia jest to szczęśliwy moment, kiedy możemy spotkać się z bliskimi.

 

Chrystus przyszedł pełen radości i nadziei. Pragnął objawić swoją Boskość i misję Syna Bożego. Niestety, Jezus został odrzucony przez swoich rodaków.

 

Ci ludzie byli rozczarowani słowami Pana. Myśleli: kim jesteś? Dlaczego uważasz się za Boga? Znamy Cię jako syna Marii i Józefa, mieszka tu wielu Twoich kuzynów, a mimo to mówisz: Jestem Bogiem!

 

Mieszkańcy Nazaretu myśleli, że Jezus był pełen megalomanii. Z pewnością to doświadczenie musiało być dla Niego bardzo trudne, ponieważ został On odrzucony przez Jego przyjaciół i rodzinę.

 

Z powodu braku wiary Jezus nie mógł objawić swojej mocy, jedynie kilka osób zostały przez Niego uzdrowione.

 

Rozważając dzisiejszą Ewangelię, możemy zauważyć pewne porównanie do współczesnego świata. Jezus Chrystus przychodzi do swego ludu zwanego chrześcijanami. Chce nam pokazać moc Boga i siłę naszej wiary. Mówi: Jestem Bogiem Żywym, chcę napełnić Twoje serce nadzieją, pokojem i radością. Niestety większość ludzi Go ignoruje.

 

Często myślimy, że Jezus nie jest w stanie zaimponować nam Swoją mocą i łaską, On nie ma nic do zaoferowania. Wiemy, że On jest Synem Bożym, to wszystko. Nie możemy rozpoznać Jego nauczania i misji. Wiemy o Nim wszystko, dlatego nie może On nas niczym zaskoczyć. To logika wielu z nas. 

 

Jezus dzisiaj czuje to samo, jak w Nazarecie 2000 lat temu, kiedy został odrzucony przez swój lud. Ale On nie rezygnuje. Walczy o każdą duszę, chce nam pokazać swoją moc i prosi o otwarcie serc i umysłów.

 

Niech ta lekcja z Ewangelii Marka uczyni nas gorliwymi uczniami Chrystusa, który przychodzi do nas i ofiarowuje Swoją potężną łaskę i pomoc. Amen.
