Mark 1:1-8

A voice cries in the wilderness: prepare a way for the Lord

The beginning of the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah:

Look, I am going to send my messenger before you;

he will prepare your way.

A voice cries in the wilderness:

Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.

and so it was that John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. All Judaea and all the people of Jerusalem made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him in the river Jordan they confessed their sins. John wore a garment of camel-skin, and he lived on locusts and wild honey. In the course of his preaching he said, ‘Someone is following me, someone who is more powerful than I am, and I am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals. I have baptised you with water, but he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.’

       The second Sunday of Advent takes us to the banks of the river of Jordan, to the place where John the Baptist fulfilled his mission. He prepared people for Christ’s coming. From the theological point of view, St. John was the bridge between the Old and New Testament. As the only Prophet, he belonged to the Old and the New Covenant. He talked about Son of God, the Lamb of God, who takes way the sins of the world. 

 

If we look closer at the situation, we may think that John had a great opportunity to call himself a Messiah.  The people, at the shore of the river hoped to see the Son of God. He might have said: I am he, the Promised Messiah, come to me and through the baptism receive the forgiveness of sins. 

 

He did not do it because he knew, what his role in the plan of Redemption is. John was aware that was the tool in the God’s hands. The attitude of humility did not allow him to announce himself as God. 

 

He was convinced that Jesus is the greatest treasure of his life. His relationship was built on the intimacy with God. He was ready to offer his life, what he later did for Jesus. 

 

On this Advent time, we may have a chance to renew our thinking and the “philosophy” of life. Jesus is coming to everyone, so we can experience His presence and love. All these days became an opportunity to immerge into His power and peace. God says trough St. John, just like he did 2000 years ago: I am coming, experience my sweet presence and love. We are encouraged, to welcome him in our hearts, to get the unlimited satisfaction and goodness. He can dispel any darkness from your hearts and minds.

 

These 4 weeks are an extraordinary time to meet Christ more. Sometime, observing people I think, we can fall into a trap, not to see Jesus in church. It seems so strange, but possible. Why? For a man more important may be a statue or a candle, than the Blessed Sacrament, which has been so often ignored. Because of that, being in church, I may not meet the Lord, some the things hide the real God. These items are needed, but they have own place to adore God, not to become the purpose of the celebration and prayer. The building of church is about his house. 

 

Only he is the center of those celebrations. 

St. John Paul II said that no one can understand himself without Christ. Jesus Christ will change the time Christmas; we only must invite him.

Jesus, you are my treasure and the biggest gift. Amen.

Początek Ewangelii Jezusa Chrystusa, Syna Bożego. Jak jest napisane u proroka Izajasza: "oto Ja posyłam wysłańca mego przed Tobą; on przygotuje drogę Twoją. Głos wołającego na pustyni: Przygotujcie drogę Panu, prostujcie dla Niego ścieżki", wystąpił Jan Chrzciciel na pustyni i głosił chrzest nawrócenia na odpuszczenie grzechów. Ciągnęła do niego cała judzka kraina oraz wszyscy mieszkańcy Jerozolimy i przyjmowali od niego chrzest w rzece Jordan, wyznając swoje grzechy. Jan nosił odzienie z sierści wielbłądziej i pas skórzany około bioder, a żywił się szarańczą i miodem leśnym. i tak głosił: "idzie za mną mocniejszy ode mnie, a ja nie jestem godzien, aby schyliwszy się, rozwiązać rzemyk u Jego sandałów. Ja chrzciłem was wodą, on zaś chrzcić was będzie Duchem Świętym".

    Druga niedziela Adwentu przenosi nas nad brzeg rzeki Jordan, do miejsca, gdzie Jan Chrzciciel wypełnił swoją misję. Przygotowywał on ludzi na przyjście Chrystusa. Z teologicznego punktu widzenia św. Jan był pomostem pomiędzy Starym i Nowym Testamentem. Jako jedyny Prorok należał do Starego i Nowego Przymierza, mówiąc o Synu Bożym, Baranku Bożym, który gładzi grzechy świata.

Jeśli przyjrzymy się bliżej sytuacji, możemy pomyśleć, że Jan miał wspaniałą okazję, aby nazwać siebie Mesjaszem. Ludzie na brzegu rzeki mieli nadzieję ujrzeć Syna Bożego. Mógł powiedzieć: Ja nim jestem, Obiecany Mesjasz, przyjdźcie do mnie i przez chrzest otrzymacie odpuszczenie grzechów.

Nie uczynił tego, bo wiedział, jaka jest jego rola w planie Odkupienia. Jan miał świadomość, że jest narzędziem w rękach Boga. Postawa pokory nie pozwoliła mu ogłosić się Bogiem.

Był przekonany, że Jezus jest największym skarbem jego życia. Jego więź opierała się na intymności z Bogiem. Był gotowy oddać swoje życie, co później zrobił dla Jezusa.

W tym czasie Adwentu możemy mieć szansę odnowienia naszego myślenia i „filozofii” życia. Jezus przychodzi do każdego, abyśmy mogli doświadczyć Jego obecności i miłości. Wszystkie te dni stają się okazją do zanurzenia się w Jego mocy i pokoju. Bóg mówi przez św. Jana, tak jak to zrobił 2000 lat temu: Przychodzę do was, doświadczcie mojej słodkiej obecności i miłości. Zachęca, aby powitać Go w naszych sercach, zyskując dobroć. On może rozproszyć każdą ciemność z waszych serc i umysłów.

Te 4 tygodnie to niezwykły czas, aby jeszcze bardziej spotkać się z Chrystusem. Czasem, obserwując ludzi, myślę, że możemy wpaść w pułapkę, nie zauważając Jezusa w kościele. Wydaje się to takie dziwne, ale możliwe. Dlaczego? Dla człowieka ważniejsza może być figura czy świeca niż Najświętszy Sakrament, o którym tak często się zapomina. Przez to będąc w kościele mogę nie spotkać Pana, który jako prawdziwy Bóg, skutecznie jest zakryty przez mniej istotne rzeczy. Przedmioty te są potrzebne, niemniej jednak mają swoje miejsce, w adorowaniu Boga, a nie stając się celem celebracji i modlitwy. Budowa kościoła To Jego domu.

Tylko on jest centrum celebracji.

Św. Jan Paweł II mówił, że bez Chrystusa nikt nie może zrozumieć siebie. Jezus Chrystus może zmienić czas Bożego Narodzenia; musimy go tylko zaprosić.
