Forgiveness Przebaczenie...

 

Matthew 18:21-35

To be forgiven, you must forgive

Peter went up to Jesus and said, ‘Lord, how often must I forgive my brother if he wrongs me? As often as seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘Not seven, I tell you, but seventy-seven times.

  ‘And so the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who decided to settle his accounts with his servants. When the reckoning began, they brought him a man who owed ten thousand talents; but he had no means of paying, so his master gave orders that he should be sold, together with his wife and children and all his possessions, to meet the debt. At this, the servant threw himself down at his master’s feet. “Give me time” he said “and I will pay the whole sum.” And the servant’s master felt so sorry for him that he let him go and cancelled the debt. Now as this servant went out, he happened to meet a fellow servant who owed him one hundred denarii; and he seized him by the throat and began to throttle him. “Pay what you owe me” he said. His fellow servant fell at his feet and implored him, saying, “Give me time and I will pay you.” But the other would not agree; on the contrary, he had him thrown into prison till he should pay the debt. His fellow servants were deeply distressed when they saw what had happened, and they went to their master and reported the whole affair to him. Then the master sent for him. “You wicked servant,” he said “I cancelled all that debt of yours when you appealed to me. Were you not bound, then, to have pity on your fellow servant just as I had pity on you?” And in his anger the master handed him over to the torturers till he should pay all his debt. And that is how my heavenly Father will deal with you unless you each forgive your brother from your heart.’

    The Gospel according to Matthew seems to be very demanding. It tells us that we should love our enemies and forgive them their blames. It is a part of our Christianity. Kindness and good have a very positive impact on our lives. But hatred can destroy us. We should avoid it, because it destroys our humanity.

 

Jesus tells us something more: forgive your enemies and debtors, fight hatred with love. 

 

It seems to be illogical. From a human's point of view it is not right. On Thursday we celebrated the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. A cross is the centre of Christianity because it is a symbol of forgiveness of sins, debts and harms. Jesus used it to win over death. Jesus Christ forgave us our trespasses, and we need to do the same.

 

And one more thing, in forgiveness we can find peace. Any harm and hatred touches both sides. Lack of forgiveness brings evil on all of us. Any conflict and anger destroys us from within. 

 

This is a very difficult and long way. This is a process, so we need to pray and ask for the ability to forgive, because only forgiveness can save our souls.

 

The History of the Church often highlights the case of St. Maria Goretti, a young girl who at the age of 12 forgave the man who stabbed her. The same thing did her mother, and during his imprisonment that man converted and started asking for forgiveness. When he left prison, the rest of his life he spent in a convent as a gardener. He was present on the St. Peter's Square during Mary's canonisation. For God everything is possible.

 

We pray every day: Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us...

 

May those words be really present in our lives, despite it is not easy. God help us. 

(Mt 18, 21-35) 
Piotr podszedł do Jezusa i zapytał: "Panie, ile razy mam przebaczyć, jeśli mój brat zawini względem mnie? Czy aż siedem razy?" Jezus mu odrzekł: "Nie mówię ci, że aż siedem razy, lecz aż siedemdziesiąt siedem razy. Dlatego podobne jest królestwo niebieskie do króla, który chciał się rozliczyć ze swymi sługami. Gdy zaczął się rozliczać, przyprowadzono mu jednego, który był mu winien dziesięć tysięcy talentów. Ponieważ nie miał z czego ich oddać, pan kazał sprzedać go razem z żoną, dziećmi i całym jego mieniem, aby dług w ten sposób odzyskać. Wtedy sługa padł mu do stóp i prosił go: „Panie, okaż mi cierpliwość, a wszystko ci oddam”. Pan ulitował się nad owym sługą, uwolnił go i dług mu darował. Lecz gdy sługa ów wyszedł, spotkał jednego ze współsług, który mu był winien sto denarów. Chwycił go i zaczął dusić, mówiąc: „Oddaj, coś winien!” Jego współsługa padł przed nim i prosił go: „Okaż mi cierpliwość, a oddam tobie”. On jednak nie chciał, lecz poszedł i wtrącił go do więzienia, dopóki nie odda długu. Współsłudzy jego, widząc, co się działo, bardzo się zasmucili. Poszli i opowiedzieli swemu panu wszystko, co zaszło. Wtedy pan jego, wezwawszy go, rzekł mu: „Sługo niegodziwy! Darowałem ci cały ten dług, ponieważ mnie prosiłeś. Czyż więc i ty nie powinieneś był ulitować się nad swoim współsługą, jak ja ulitowałem się nad tobą?” I uniósłszy się gniewem, pan jego kazał wydać go katom, dopóki mu nie odda całego długu. Podobnie uczyni wam Ojciec mój niebieski, jeżeli każdy z was nie przebaczy z serca swemu bratu".

    Ewangelia według Mateusza wydaje się być bardzo wymagająca. Mówi nam o tym, że powinniśmy kochać naszych wrogów i przebaczać im ich winy. Jest to częścią naszego chrześcijaństwa. Dobroć i dobro mają bardzo pozytywny wpływ na nasze życie.  Nienawiść może nas zniszczyć. Powinniśmy tego unikać, bo to niszczy nasze człowieczeństwo.

 

Jezus mówi nam coś więcej: przebaczajcie swoim wrogom i dłużnikom, walczcie z nienawiścią z miłością.

 

Wydaje się to nielogiczne. Z ludzkiego punktu widzenia nie jest to w porządku. W czwartek obchodziliśmy uroczystość Podwyższenia Krzyża Świętego. Krzyż jest centrum chrześcijaństwa, ponieważ jest symbolem odpuszczenia grzechów, długów i krzywd. Jezus posłużył się nim, aby zwyciężyć śmierć. Jezus Chrystus przebaczył nam nasze winy i my musimy zrobić to samo.

 

W przebaczeniu możemy znaleźć spokój. Jakakolwiek krzywda i nienawiść dotykają obie strony. Brak przebaczenia sprowadza zło na nas wszystkich. Każdy konflikt i złość niszczą nas od środka.

 

To bardzo trudna i długa droga każdego z nas. To jest proces, dlatego musimy się modlić i prosić o umiejętność przebaczania, bo tylko przebaczenie może ocalić naszą duszę.

 

Historia Kościoła często podkreśla historię św. Marii Goretti, młodej dziewczyny, która w wieku 12 lat przebaczyła mężczyźnie, który pozbawił jej życia. To samo zrobiła jej matka. Podczas pobytu w więzieniu mężczyzna nawrócił się i zaczął prosić o przebaczenie. Po wyjściu z więzienia resztę życia spędził w klasztorze jako ogrodnik. Był on obecny na Placu Świętego Piotra podczas kanonizacji Marii. Dla Boga wszystko jest możliwe.

 

Codziennie się modlimy: Odpuść nam nasze winy jako i my przebaczamy naszym winowajcom...

 

Niech te słowa będą naprawdę obecne w naszym życiu, choć nie jest to łatwe. Boże pomóż nam.
