Luke 1:1-4,4:14-21

'This text is being fulfilled today even as you listen'

Seeing that many others have undertaken to draw up accounts of the events that have taken place among us, exactly as these were handed down to us by those who from the outset were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word, I in my turn, after carefully going over the whole story from the beginning, have decided to write an ordered account for you, Theophilus, so that your Excellency may learn how well founded the teaching is that you have received.

  Jesus, with the power of the Spirit in him, returned to Galilee; and his reputation spread throughout the countryside. He taught in their synagogues and everyone praised him.

  He came to Nazara, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day as he usually did. He stood up to read and they handed him the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. Unrolling the scroll he found the place where it is written:

The spirit of the Lord has been given to me,

for he has anointed me.

He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor,

to proclaim liberty to captives

and to the blind new sight,

to set the downtrodden free,

to proclaim the Lord’s year of favour.

He then rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the assistant and sat down. And all eyes in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to speak to them, ‘This text is being fulfilled today even as you listen.’

   While we are reading today's Gospel of Luke, we have a chance to follow Jesus to the city of Nazara in the Galilean Country. 

 

Christ arrived to a Jewish temple in order to pray and read the God’s words.

 

The centre of a prayer was the reading of prophet's Isaiah Letter. This text is about Messiah, who came as the Messenger of God.  

 

It was not a coincidence that these words are about Jesus: 

 

    "The spirit of the Lord has been given to me,

     for he has anointed me.

     He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor,

    to proclaim liberty to captives

   and to the blind new sight,

to set the downtrodden free,

to proclaim the Lord’s year of favour".

 

These sentences refer to Him, because He is the Son of God and the Messiah of the Lord. The whole history of salvation is about God's presence in human life. In the Old Testament, God said that salvation will redeem people. The whole text of Prophet's Isaiah letter is about that. God is among us; He gave us His son, just as He promised. We do not need to look for another way to God, because the Son of God is our way to God. The resurrection can be fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

 

The coming of Christ happens also today. Jesus comes to us, to the rich and the poor, giving us new signs and proclaiming the Lord's year of favour. The work of God is continued in front of us. The whole Holy Trinity is present in the Church. This is the main truth; God is with us, Emmanuel. 

First of all, Jesus Christ can be found in the Bible, in His own words that were written there. The Bible leads us to God. Secondly, we may find Jesus in our public (liturgical) and private prayers. Every prayer, which is honest, gets us closer to our Creator.

The most visible sign of God is His sacramental presence. Jesus Christ uses signs to show what is invisible and spiritual. 

 

This text of Isaiah helps us to understand that we are the people awaiting God. God announces the year of favour because He wants to save us from evil.

 

Even if one day we will doubt in His help and existence, He will never fail and leave us alone. 

 

There is a story, when pope John Paul II was at Gamelli Clinic in Rome; he met the mother of a dying son. She said to the Pope, do not tell me, that God is with me right now. Tell him to leave me alone. John Paul II answered, I can do that, but I am sure, that the same God will never leave you. His place is with you. 

The place of God is with you and me, because Jesus Christ was sent to the world to save us. 

 

Our God and Saviour. Let us recognize your presence in our life every day. Amen.

Wielu już starało się ułożyć opowiadanie o zdarzeniach, które się dokonały pośród nas, tak jak nam je przekazali ci, którzy od początku byli naocznymi świadkami i sługami słowa. Postanowiłem więc i ja zbadać dokładnie wszystko od pierwszych chwil i opisać ci po kolei, dostojny Teofilu, abyś się mógł przekonać o całkowitej pewności nauk, których ci udzielono. W owym czasie: Powrócił Jezus mocą Ducha do Galilei, a wieść o Nim rozeszła się po całej okolicy. On zaś nauczał w ich synagogach, wysławiany przez wszystkich. Przyszedł również do Nazaretu, gdzie się wychował. W dzień szabatu udał się swoim zwyczajem do synagogi i powstał, aby czytać. Podano Mu księgę proroka Izajasza. Rozwinąwszy księgę, znalazł miejsce, gdzie było napisane: "Duch Pański spoczywa na Mnie, ponieważ Mnie namaścił i posłał Mnie, abym ubogim niósł dobrą nowinę, więźniom głosił wolność, a niewidomym przejrzenie; abym uciśnionych odsyłał wolnymi, abym obwoływał rok łaski Pana". Zwinąwszy księgę, oddał słudze i usiadł; a oczy wszystkich w synagodze były w Niego utkwione. Począł więc mówić do nich: "Dziś spełniły się te słowa Pisma, które słyszeliście".

   Czytając dzisiejszą Ewangelię Łukasza, mamy szansę pójść za Jezusem do miasta Nazara w Kraju Galilejskim.

 

Chrystus przybył do żydowskiej świątyni, aby modlić się i czytać słowa Boga.

 

W centrum modlitwy było czytanie Listu proroka Izajasza. Ten tekst dotyczy Mesjasza, który przyszedł jako Wysłannik Boga.

 

To nie przypadek, że te słowa dotyczą Jezusa:

 

„Duch Pański spoczywa na Mnie, ponieważ Mnie namaścił i posłał Mnie, abym ubogim niósł dobrą nowinę, więźniom głosił wolność, a niewidomym przejrzenie; abym uciśnionych odsyłał wolnymi, abym obwoływał rok łaski Pana”.

 

Te zdania odnoszą się do Niego, ponieważ jest Synem Bożym i Mesjaszem. Cała historia zbawienia dotyczy obecności Boga w życiu człowieka.  Cały tekst listu proroka Izajasza dotyczy tego, że Bóg jest pośród nas; Dał nam swojego Syna, tak jak obiecał. Nie musimy szukać innej drogi do Boga, ponieważ Syn Boży jest naszą drogą do Boga. Zmartwychwstanie dopełnia się w Jezusie Chrystusie.

 

Przyjście Chrystusa dokonuje się także dzisiaj. Jezus przychodzi do nas, do bogatych i biednych, dając nam nowe znaki i ogłaszając rok łaski od Pana. Dzieło Boże jest kontynuowane, cała Trójca Święta jest obecna w Kościele. To jest główna prawda; Bóg jest z nami, Emmanuel.

Przede wszystkim Jezusa Chrystusa można znaleźć w Biblii, w Jego własnych słowach, które tam zostały zapisane. Biblia prowadzi nas do Boga. Po drugie, możemy znaleźć Jezusa w naszych publicznych (liturgicznych) i prywatnych modlitwach. Każda modlitwa, która jest szczera, przybliża nas do naszego Stwórcy.

Najbardziej widocznym znakiem Boga jest Jego sakramentalna obecność. Jezus Chrystus używa znaków, aby pokazać to, co niewidzialne i duchowe.

 

Ten tekst Izajasza pomaga nam zrozumieć, że jesteśmy ludem oczekującym Boga. Bóg ogłasza rok łaski, ponieważ chce nas zbawić od zła.

 

Nawet jeśli pewnego dnia zwątpimy w Jego pomoc i istnienie, On nigdy nas nie zawiedzie.

 

Kilkadziesiąt lat temu wydarzyła się pewna historia, papież Jan Paweł II przebywał w klinice Gamelli w Rzymie; poznał matkę umierającego syna. Kobieta powiedziała do Papieża; nie mów mi, że Bóg jest teraz ze mną. Powiedz mu, żeby zostawił mnie w spokoju. Jan Paweł II odpowiedział; że mogę to zrobić, ale jestem pewien, że ten sam Bóg nigdy cię nie opuści. Jego miejsce jest z Tobą.

Miejsce Boga jest z Tobą i ze mną, ponieważ Jezus Chrystus został posłany na świat, aby nas zbawić.

 

Nasz Boże i Zbawicielu, pozwól nam każdego dnia rozpoznawać Twoją obecność w naszym życiu. Amen.
