Mark 12:38-44

This poor widow has put in more than all

In his teaching Jesus said, ‘Beware of the scribes who like to walk about in long robes, to be greeted obsequiously in the market squares, to take the front seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at banquets; these are the men who swallow the property of widows, while making a show of lengthy prayers. The more severe will be the sentence they receive.’

  He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the treasury, and many of the rich put in a great deal. A poor widow came and put in two small coins, the equivalent of a penny. Then he called his disciples and said to them, ‘I tell you solemnly, this poor widow has put more in than all who have contributed to the treasury; for they have all put in money they had over, but she from the little she had has put in everything she possessed, all she had to live on.’

 

The readings of the XXXII Sunday in Ordinary Time tell us about two women who showed a real faith and trust in God. The first woman, from the Book of Elijah, met a prophet who asked her for a scrab of bread. The time when it happened was very difficult, because there was a drought in the country. 

 

Despite that, she listened to the prophet and gave him a piece of bread, because she believed that the jar with flour and oil will be full again. The promise of Elijah came true.

 

The second woman from the Gospel of Mark, a widow, contributed one penny for the temple. She gave everything she had. Her deep faith helped her to understand that God will never leave her and her family. She believed that God is her Comforter and Strength. 

 

These two women were not afraid that they might lose everything.

 

The example from the first reading and the Gospel has become a great lesson for us to trust in God, not only verbally, but through our deeds. The behaviour of the two women unmasks some demagogy of human life. Quite often some people talk about the need of sharing goods with others, but at the same time they are conservative and keeps some things for themselves, just in case. 

 

Jesus teaches us about the attitude of these women. He says that we shouldn’t be afraid to give what is the most precious in our life. We should trust in Him, and we will achieve more, because He is God. 

 

I remember a history of my friends, they have been married for 16 years and have tree children. The first child was born healthy, but the second one, a boy, sadly was born sick. After two years, he died, and the parents were full of pain and sadness. But because of their strong faith, they understood that God has a plan for everybody. Few years later, twins were born to them. It was a mystery for them and for me, God had taken the second child, and the same God gave them twins, a boy and a girl.    

 

They believed and trusted in God and their faith was rewarded. We should believe and trust in God. His blessing is greater than our imagination. We should offer our lives to him. Amen. 

 

 

 

(Mk 12,38-44) 
Jezus nauczając mówił do zgromadzonych: „Strzeżcie się uczonych w Piśmie. Z upodobaniem chodzą oni w powłóczystych szatach, lubią pozdrowienia na rynku, pierwsze krzesła w synagogach i zaszczytne miejsca na ucztach. Objadają domy wdów i dla pozoru odprawiają długie modlitwy. Ci tym surowszy dostaną wyrok”. Potem usiadł naprzeciw skarbony i przypatrywał się, jak tłum wrzucał drobne pieniądze do skarbony. Wielu bogatych wrzucało wiele. Przyszła też jedna uboga wdowa i wrzuciła dwa pieniążki, czyli jeden grosz. Wtedy przywołał swoich uczniów i rzekł do nich: „Zaprawdę powiadam wam: Ta uboga wdowa wrzuciła najwięcej ze wszystkich, którzy kładli do skarbony. Wszyscy bowiem wrzucali z tego, co im zbywało; ona zaś ze swego niedostatku wrzuciła wszystko, co miała, całe swe utrzymanie”.

   Czytania XXXII Niedzieli Zwykłej przedstawiają dwie kobiety, które wykazały prawdziwą wiarę i ufność Bogu. Pierwsza osoba z Księgi Eliasza, matka jednego syna, spotkała proroka, który poprosił, daj mi kawałek chleba, a potem przygotuj coś dla siebie i swojego syna. Ten czas był bardzo trudny, gdyż przez długi czas w tym kraju panowała susza. Kobieta była zdesperowana, żeby coś zjeść i umrzeć z głodu.

Choć był to ciężki czas,  posłuchano proroka, podając mu kromkę chleba, kobieta uwierzyła, że ​​dzban z mąką i oliwą, dopóki znowu nie spadnie deszcz, dzban z mąką i oliwą nie opróżni się. Spełniła się obietnica Eliasza.

Druga kobieta z Ewangelii Marka, wdowa, która ofiarowała jeden grosz na świątynię, dała to, co miała, to znaczy wszystko. Postawa głębokiej wiary pomogła jej zrozumieć, że Bóg nigdy ją i rodzinę nie opuszcza. Wierzyła, że ​​Bóg jest jej Pocieszycielem i Siłą.

Te dwie kobiety nie bały się, że mogą stracić wszystko, ale ufając Bogu oddały wszystko, co posiadały, a nie tylko to, co zostało.

Przykład z pierwszego czytania i Ewangelia stał się dla nas wielką lekcją zaufania Bogu nie tylko werbalnie, ale poprzez uczynki. Zachowanie dwóch kobiet demaskuje postawę demagogii ludzkiego życia. Dość często człowiek dzieli się czymś, ale z drugiej strony będąc zachowawczym, zatrzymuje coś dla siebie, na wszelki wypadek.

Jezus uczy nas postawy tych kobiet. Mówi, nie bój się dawać tego, co w Twoim życiu najcenniejsze, przełamuj poczucie, że możesz stracić wszystko. Zaufaj mi, a osiągniesz więcej, bo Ja jestem Bogiem.

Pamiętam historię moich przyjaciół, są małżeństwem od 16 lat, mają troje dzieci. Pierwsze dziecko urodziło się zdrowe, drugie, chłopiec, niestety urodził się chory. Po dwóch latach zmarł, a rodzice byli pełni bólu, smutku, co prawda to normalne, ale mieli w sobie silną wiarę, zrozumieli, że to był plan Boga, aby odebrać im dziecko. Kilka lat później dowiedziałem się, że urodziły się im bliźnięta, i są całkowicie zdrowe. To była tajemnica dla nich i dla mnie, Bóg zabrał drugie dziecko, które umarło, a ten sam Bóg dał im bliźniaków, chłopca i dziewczynkę.

Uwierzyli i zaufali Bogu, a ich wiara została nagrodzona. Bóg nigdy niczego nie zabiera, nie dając w zamian. Daje potem więcej, jeśli wierzymy i ufamy. Jego błogosławieństwo jest większe od mojej władzy poznania. Oddajmy Mu nasze życie. Amen.
