Mark 10:46-52

Go; your faith has saved you

As Jesus left Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, Bartimaeus (that is, the son of Timaeus), a blind beggar, was sitting at the side of the road. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout and to say, ‘Son of David, Jesus, have pity on me.’ And many of them scolded him and told him to keep quiet, but he only shouted all the louder, ‘Son of David, have pity on me.’ Jesus stopped and said, ‘Call him here.’ So they called the blind man. ‘Courage,’ they said ‘get up; he is calling you.’ So throwing off his cloak, he jumped up and went to Jesus. Then Jesus spoke, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ ‘Rabbuni,’ the blind man said to him ‘Master, let me see again.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your faith has saved you.’ And immediately his sight returned and he followed him along the road.

   The Gospel of the XXX Sunday, according to Mark moves to Jericho, to the place where Bartimaeus lived. He was a beggar for many years. Every day he begged for help, and one day he met Jesus Christ in the way, who was passing by. This moment became a great chance for him to be cured. We may thing, that the Son of God was probably the last chance of him, so he was shouting, to turn the eyes of Christ to him. In his heart and mind was plenty of determination, to get the attention of Jesus.

 

And his desire came true, Jesus asked him, what do you want to do for you? The answer of the beggar was, I want to be cured and see again. Christ answered, let you sigh be given to you, back.  

 

He experienced the miracle of healing from God. But on the other hand, the whole story has become a great lesson of faith and prayer. The determination of the man is an example for us, how to pray, how to build my relationship to God. He might have been disappointed for many years, having been blind. And Jesus opened his eyes and spirit for God’s grace.

 

The man teaches us about a constant attitude of prayer, to pray with heart and mind. Sometimes, it seems to us, we pray and send our words to God, but all these things are falling on deaf ears. The intention is not the real relationship to God with full of love, but my traditional behavior, that I need give something from myself to Jesus. The biggest problem is utopia, it means, that a man thinks, that God is the centrum of the spiritual life, but the truth is quite different, the same man puts himself in the centrum of spiritual life.  

 

I remember a story on a man, who used to pray a lot, because he could not manage with his difficult problem. One day with aggression he was crying to God saying, where are you?

The answer of God was, at least, you have started to pray, because you prayed to yourself until now.

 

Yes, so often we can pray to ourselves, not to God. Some point, my personal matters, external world is more relevant than Jesus Christ. And the situation of this man from the today’s Gospel makes us aware, God is the most important, not I in the relationship within us. Jesus Christ says, do not pray to yourself, but to real God.

 

Let us ask for pure intention of my faith, and may God be in the centrum of spiritual life. Amen.

Gdy Jezus wraz z uczniami i sporym tłumem wychodził z Jerycha, niewidomy żebrak, Bartymeusz, syn Tymeusza, siedział przy drodze. A słysząc, że to jest Jezus z Nazaretu, zaczął wołać: "Jezusie, Synu Dawida, ulituj się nade mną! "Wielu nastawało na niego, żeby umilkł. Lecz on jeszcze głośniej wołał: "Synu Dawida, ulituj się nade mną!" Jezus przystanął i rzekł: "Zawołajcie go". I przywołali niewidomego, mówiąc mu: "Bądź dobrej myśli, wstań, woła cię". On zrzucił z siebie płaszcz, zerwał się na nogi i przyszedł do Jezusa. A Jezus przemówił do niego: "Co chcesz, abym ci uczynił?" Powiedział Mu niewidomy: "Rabbuni, żebym przejrzał". Jezus mu rzekł: "Idź, twoja wiara cię uzdrowiła". Natychmiast przejrzał i szedł za Nim drogą.

   Ewangelia XXX Niedzieli, według Marka, przenosi się do Jerycha, do miejsca, w którym mieszkał Bartymeusz, który przez wiele lat był żebrakiem. Codziennie błagał o pomoc i pewnego dnia na drodze spotkał Jezusa Chrystusa. Ta chwila stała się wielką szansą na wyleczenie. Możemy pomyśleć, że Syn Boży był prawdopodobnie ostatnią szansą dla niego, ten krzyk był wyrazem rozpoczy, aby zwrócić oczy Chrystusa na siebie. W jego sercu i umyśle było mnóstwo determinacji, by zwrócić uwagę Jezusa.

I spełniło się jego pragnienie, Jezus zapytał go, czego pragniesz? Odpowiedź żebraka brzmiała: chcę być wyleczony i widzieć ponownie. Chrystus odpowiedział, niech się tak stanie według Twojego życzenia.

Doświadczył on cudu uzdrowienia przez Boga.  Z drugiej strony cała historia stała się wielką lekcją wiary i modlitwy. Determinacja człowieka jest dla nas wzorem, jak się modlić, jak budować swoją relację z Bogiem. Jezus otworzył oczy i ducha na łaskę Bożą.

Mężczyzna uczy nas nieustannej postawy modlitwy, modlitwy sercem i umysłem. Czasami wydaje nam się, że modlimy się i posyłamy nasze słowa do Boga, ale wszystko poda w próżnię, ponieważ intencja nie jest prawdziwa, pełna miłości relacja z Bogiem, ale moje tradycyjne zachowanie, że muszę dać coś trochę od siebie Jezusowi. Większym problemem jest utopia, to znaczy, że człowiek myśli, że Bóg jest centrum życia duchowego, ale prawda jest zupełnie inna, ten sam człowiek stawia siebie w centrum życia duchowego.

Pamiętam historię o człowieku, który dużo się modlił, bo nie mógł sobie poradzić ze swoimi trudościami. Pewnego dnia z agresją i bezbronnością zawołał do Boga mówiąc, gdzie jesteś?

Bóg odpowiedział,  przynajmniej teraz zaczynasz się modlić, bo do tej pory modliweś się do siebie.

Tak często możemy modlić się do siebie, a nie do Boga. W pewnym momencie moje sprawy osobiste, świat zewnętrzny jest bardziej istotny niż Jezus Chrystus. A sytuacja tego człowieka z dzisiejszej Ewangelii uświadamia nam, że najważniejszy jest Bóg, a nie ja w relacji w Nim. Jezus Chrystus mówi, nie módl się do siebie, ale do prawdziwego Boga.

Prośmy o czystą intencję wiary, aby Bóg był w centrum życia duchowego. Amen.
