Mark 7:1-8,14-15,21-23

You put aside the commandment of God, to cling to human traditions

The Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered round Jesus, and they noticed that some of his disciples were eating with unclean hands, that is, without washing them. For the Pharisees, and the Jews in general, follow the tradition of the elders and never eat without washing their arms as far as the elbow; and on returning from the market place they never eat without first sprinkling themselves. There are also many other observances which have been handed down to them concerning the washing of cups and pots and bronze dishes. So these Pharisees and scribes asked him, ‘Why do your disciples not respect the tradition of the elders but eat their food with unclean hands?’ He answered, ‘It was of you hypocrites that Isaiah so rightly prophesied in this passage of scripture:

This people honours me only with lip-service,

while their hearts are far from me.

The worship they offer me is worthless,

the doctrines they teach are only human regulations.

You put aside the commandment of God to cling to human traditions.’ He called the people to him again and said, ‘Listen to me, all of you, and understand. Nothing that goes into a man from outside can make him unclean; it is the things that come out of a man that make him unclean. For it is from within, from men’s hearts, that evil intentions emerge: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within and make a man unclean.’

   The Gospel according to Mark tells us about the confrontation between Jesus and the Pharisees who accused Christ for no respect for the tradition of the Elderly of Israel. During the conversation one interesting conclusion appears that the leaders of Jews stick to a lot of human regulations and reject the God’s commencements. The purity of body is more important for them than the purity of heart. 

 

The teaching of Christ makes us aware that the central place should be spirit and mind – it is the centre of freedom and human will. 

 

Last Sunday I pointed out the desire of God in us. Every human existence needs God, because we have been created to resemble the image of Him. Even more, through the sacrament of baptism, we became the Temple of the Holy Trinity, and using the IT language, our soul and mind is programmed by God. We have the seal of God. 

 

Nature likes no emptiness. All things are made in God. If there is no God, there is the rule of instinct and non-limited desires. 

 

We are not slaves controlled by God but free people, who have will and mind. Our thoughts and deeds are the final fruit of our will.

 

Jesus teaches us about the responsibility for our decisions.

 

Today, in this Gospel, we are invited to take care for our sight, thoughts and decisions, because all these things, as I said, have influence on our reactions and acts in daily life. It is especially difficult today, when we are attacked by many adverts and inappropriate stuff. We are the unity of body, soul and psychology. Mind is like a sponge absorbing words and imaginations which are pushing us to work. 

 

Let us pray today for the purity of thoughts, sight and the desire to be able to be resistant to everything what makes deceives us. Amen.

U Jezusa zebrali się faryzeusze i kilku uczonych w Piśmie, którzy przybyli z Jerozolimy. I zauważyli, że niektórzy z Jego uczniów brali posiłek nieczystymi, to znaczy nieobmytymi rękami. Faryzeusze bowiem, i w ogóle Żydzi, trzymając się tradycji starszych, nie jedzą, jeśli sobie rąk nie obmyją, rozluźniając pięść. I gdy wrócą z rynku, nie jedzą, dopóki się nie obmyją. Jest jeszcze wiele innych zwyczajów, które przejęli i których przestrzegają, jak obmywanie kubków, dzbanków, naczyń miedzianych. Zapytali Go więc faryzeusze i uczeni w Piśmie: "Dlaczego Twoi uczniowie nie postępują według tradycji starszych, lecz jedzą nieczystymi rękami?" Odpowiedział im: "Słusznie prorok Izajasz powiedział o was, obłudnikach, jak jest napisane: „Ten lud czci Mnie wargami, lecz sercem swym daleko jest ode Mnie. Ale czci Mnie na próżno, ucząc zasad podanych przez ludzi”. Uchyliliście przykazanie Boże, a trzymacie się ludzkiej tradycji". Potem przywołał znowu tłum do siebie i rzekł do niego: "Słuchajcie Mnie, wszyscy, i zrozumcie! Nic nie wchodzi z zewnątrz w człowieka, co mogłoby uczynić go nieczystym; lecz to, co wychodzi z człowieka, to czyni człowieka nieczystym. Z wnętrza bowiem, z serca ludzkiego pochodzą złe myśli, nierząd, kradzieże, zabójstwa, cudzołóstwa, chciwość, przewrotność, podstęp, wyuzdanie, zazdrość, obelgi, pycha, głupota. Całe to zło z wnętrza pochodzi i czyni człowieka nieczystym".

   Ewangelia według Marka mówi o konfrontacji pomiędzy Jezusem i faryzeuszami, tymi, którzy oskarżali Chrystusa o utratę tradycji Starszych Izraela. W trakcie rozmowy pojawia się dość ciekawa konkluzja Jezusa, wy wodzowie żydowscy, czepiacie się wielu ludzkich regulacji i odrzucacie Boże prawa. Czystość ciała jest dla Was bardziej istotna niż czystość serca.

Jezus mówi, że wszystkie złe myśli i uczynki człowieka biorą się z głębi serca.

Nauka Chrystusa uświadamia nam, że centralnym miejscem mojej decyzji jest mój duch i umysł, jako centrum wolności i ludzkiej woli.

W ubiegłą niedzielę wskazałem na pragnienie Boga w nas. Każda ludzka egzystencja potrzebuje Boga, ponieważ zostaliśmy stworzeni na Jego obraz i podobieństwo. Co więcej, poprzez sakrament chrztu jesteśmy Świątynią Trójcy Świętej, a posługując się językiem informatycznym, nasza dusza i umysł są zaprogramowane przez Boga. Mamy pieczęć Boga w sobie.

Natura nigdy nie lubi pustki, jeśli Bóg jest w nas, wszystko jest w Nim stworzone. Jeśli nie ma Boga, rządzą instynkty i nieograniczone pragnienia.

Nie jesteśmy ludźmi bezwolnymi, kontrolowanymi przez Boga, ale wolnymi osobami, którzy mają wolną wolę i rozpoznanie umysłu. Nasze myśli lub czyny są ostatecznymi owocami ludzkiej woli.

Katecheza Jezusa uczy nas odpowiedzialności za nasze decyzje. Nie jesteście zdeterminowanymi ludźmi, pchanymi do czegoś poza władzą mojej woli.

Dziś w tej Ewangelii jesteśmy wezwani do troski o nasz wzrok, myśli i decyzje, ponieważ wszystkie te rzeczy, jak powiedziałem, mają wpływ na moje reakcje i czyny w życiu codziennym. Dziś jest to bardzo trudne, ponieważ jesteśmy bombardowani wieloma reklamami, niewłaściwymi rzeczami, które na nas działają. Jesteśmy jednością Ciała, duszy i psychiki. Umysł jest jak gąbka, która wchłania wszystkie instynkty wzroku, słów i wyobraźni, pracującej w nas.

 Módlmy się dzisiaj o czystość myśli, wzroku i pragnień, aby umieć oprzeć się wszystkiemu, co czyni mnie nieczystym, i podążajmy Bożą drogą. Amen.
