John 6:41-51

Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever

The Jews were complaining to each other about Jesus, because he had said, ‘I am the bread that came down from heaven.’ ‘Surely this is Jesus son of Joseph’ they said. ‘We know his father and mother. How can he now say, “I have come down from heaven”?’ Jesus said in reply, ‘Stop complaining to each other.

‘No one can come to me

unless he is drawn by the Father who sent me,

and I will raise him up at the last day.

It is written in the prophets:

They will all be taught by God,

and to hear the teaching of the Father,

and learn from it,

is to come to me.

Not that anybody has seen the Father,

except the one who comes from God:

he has seen the Father.

I tell you most solemnly,

everybody who believes has eternal life.

‘I am the bread of life.

Your fathers ate the manna in the desert

and they are dead;

but this is the bread that comes down from heaven,

so that a man may eat it and not die.

I am the living bread which has come down from heaven.

Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever;

and the bread that I shall give is my flesh,

for the life of the world.’

Today's readings confirm the truth that everything what we have, is thanks to God. Our life, existence, even property, which we earn through our human work, are the gift from God, because God supports human being. 

 

In the first reading from the Book of Kings the author presents us the Prophet Elijah. He was very distressed, because of the King Ahab. He said, it would be better to die, and have no power to work for the heritage of God.  But God sent an angel and told him: get up, eat something and continue your mission among my nation.

 

The continuation is today's Gospel according to John. Jesus says, I am the real bread of life, not the one that was eaten in the desert by your ancestors, but the real, heavenly food. This is the next example that our human being is the grace from God. We are fed by Jesus, who gives us His Body and Blood for the eternal life. Three last Sundays told us about it, we need to receive sacraments with pure heart, to achieve eternal salvation. 

 

Jesus Christ concludes his talk: "No one can come to me

unless he is drawn by the Father who sent me,

and I will raise him up at the last day".

 

Yes, we are called to be with him, and the Father calls us trough the baptism to become the children of God. But this invitation is both a gift and also a task. Our commitment to the Lord, sacramental involvement depends on us. Jesus Christ is calling us, we need to care for our faith and commitment which are put into our hands, and these gifts are not given forever. It's very easy to lose them from sight.

 

Today we have Sunday, how many people neglect the Sunday's Mass, and put their rest in the first place? They are baptized; God calls them. But they have no time for the Lord. In my country, there are 90% of baptized and only 30% attend Sunday's Mass. It is a good occasion, to thank you for your attendance at Mass and your commitment. 

 

Jesus Christ teaches us that human being and faith is the grace from God, The Son of God is calling us, so we should take care of our faith and let it flourish trough sacraments. 

 

Apart from that, we should be thankful to the Lord for our life and Christianity. Amen.

Żydzi szemrali przeciwko Jezusowi, dlatego że powiedział: "Ja jestem chlebem, który z nieba zstąpił". I mówili: "Czyż to nie jest Jezus, syn Józefa, którego ojca i matkę my znamy? Jakżeż może On teraz mówić: Z nieba zstąpiłem". Jezus rzekł im w odpowiedzi: "Nie szemrajcie między sobą! Nikt nie może przyjść do Mnie, jeżeli go nie pociągnie Ojciec, który Mnie posłał; Ja zaś wskrzeszę go w dniu ostatecznym. Napisane jest u Proroków: „Oni wszyscy będą uczniami Boga”. Każdy, kto od Ojca usłyszał i przyjął naukę, przyjdzie do Mnie. Nie znaczy to, aby ktokolwiek widział Ojca; jedynie Ten, który jest od Boga, widział Ojca. Zaprawdę, zaprawdę, powiadam wam: Kto we Mnie wierzy, ma życie wieczne. Ja jestem chlebem życia. Ojcowie wasi jedli mannę na pustyni i pomarli. To jest chleb, który z nieba zstępuje: Kto go je, nie umrze. Ja jestem chlebem żywym, który zstąpił z nieba. Jeśli ktoś spożywa ten chleb, będzie żył na wieki. Chlebem, który Ja dam, jest moje Ciało, wydane za życie świata".

   Dzisiejsze czytania potwierdzają prawdę, że wszystko, co mamy, zawdzięczamy Bogu. Nasze życie, egzystencja, a nawet majątek, który otrzymujemy naszą ludzką pracą, są darem od Boga, ponieważ Bóg wspiera człowieka.

W pierwszym czytaniu z Księgi Królewskiej autor przedstawia nam proroka Eliasza. Był on bardzo przygnębiony z powodu króla Achaba. Powiedział, że lepiej byłoby umrzeć i nie mieć siły, by pracować dla dziedzictwa Bożego. Ale Bóg posłał anioła i powiedział mu: wstań, zjedz i kontynuuj swoją misję wśród mojego narodu.

Kontynuacją jest dzisiejsza Ewangelia według Jana. Jezus mówi: Ja jestem prawdziwym chlebem życia, nie tym, który jedli wasi przodkowie na pustyni, ale prawdziwym, niebiańskim pokarmem. To kolejny przykład, że nasza istota ludzka jest łaską od Boga. Karmi nas Jezus, który daje nam swoje Ciało i Krew na życie wieczne. Trzy ostatnie niedziele podkreślją, że musimy przyjmować sakramenty z czystym sercem, aby osiągnąć zbawienie wieczne.

Jezus Chrystus kończy swoje przemówienie: „Nikt nie może przyjść do Mnie, jeżeli go nie pociągnie Ojciec, który Mnie posłał; Ja zaś wskrzeszę go w dniu ostatecznym”.

Tak, jesteśmy wezwani do bycia z Nim, a Ojciec wzywa nas przez chrzest, abyśmy stali się dziećmi Bożymi. Ale to zaproszenie jest zarówno darem, jak i zadaniem. Od nas zależy nasze oddanie Panu, zaangażowanie sakramentalne. Jezus Chrystus nas wzywa, musimy troszczyć się o naszą wiarę i zaangażowanie, które włożymy w nasze ręce, a te dary nie są dane na zawsze. Bardzo łatwo stracić je z oczu.

Dziś mamy niedzielę, ilu ludzi zaniedbuje niedzielną Mszę św. i stawia na pierwszym miejscu swój odpoczynek? Bóg ich wzywa. Ale nie mają czasu dla Pana. W moim kraju jest 90% ochrzczonych, a tylko 30% uczestniczy w niedzielnej Mszy. To dobra okazja, by podziękować Wam za udział we Mszy św. i zaangażowanie.

Jezus Chrystus uczy nas, że człowiek i wiara to łaska od Boga, Syn Boży nas wzywa, więc powinniśmy dbać o naszą wiarę i pozwolić jej rozkwitać za pośrednictwem sakramentów.

Poza tym powinniśmy być wdzięczni Panu za nasze życie i chrześcijaństwo. Amen.
