John 12:20-33

If a grain of wheat falls on the ground and dies, it yields a rich harvest

Among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. These approached Philip, who came from Bethsaida in Galilee, and put this request to him, ‘Sir, we should like to see Jesus.’ Philip went to tell Andrew, and Andrew and Philip together went to tell Jesus. Jesus replied to them:

‘Now the hour has come

for the Son of Man to be glorified.

I tell you, most solemnly,

unless a wheat grain falls on the ground and dies,

it remains only a single grain;

but if it dies,

it yields a rich harvest.

Anyone who loves his life loses it;

anyone who hates his life in this world

will keep it for the eternal life.

If a man serves me, he must follow me,

wherever I am, my servant will be there too.

If anyone serves me, my Father will honour him.

Now my soul is troubled.

What shall I say:

Father, save me from this hour?

But it was for this very reason that I have come to this hour.

Father, glorify your name!’

A voice came from heaven, ‘I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.’ People standing by, who heard this, said it was a clap of thunder; others said, ‘It was an angel speaking to him.’ Jesus answered, ‘It was not for my sake that this voice came, but for yours.

‘Now sentence is being passed on this world;

now the prince of this world is to be overthrown.

And when I am lifted up from the earth,

I shall draw all men to myself.’

By these words he indicated the kind of death he would die.

   Every day we get closer to the celebration of the Paschal Mysteries of our faith – the Passion, death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Today, we read the passage from the Gospel of John, when during one Jewish festival the Lord revealed the truth about His mission and work. Of course, He did not mention the cross, but we all know that the redemption took place on it. 

 

That part of the John’s Gospel has become a statement of Christ. Jesus makes it clear: I have come because that was the will of my Heavenly Father. I testify myself what is my Father’s will. We may notice the truth – Jesus is completely united with God. Chris is the real icon of the Father.  

 

 

How does His unity with God look like? The person and the mission of Jesus is submitted to the First Person of the Holy Trinity. We have clear evidence that Christ is united with Father. He understood that whatever he does, is a testimony of God’s plan. 

 

Even human feelings are submitted to the Lord. Practically, every element of Jesus’ life was devoted to the Father. 

 

The whole history of the Redemption shows extraordinary commitment between Christ and the Father. 

 

Jesus never kept anything for himself, His work, preaching, joy and suffering were given to God, because they are one in their divine nature and love. 

 

This is a great advice for us. If we want to imitate our Saviour, we should do the same. We should offer our life to God. 

 

Let us try to be united with the Lord through our work, good testimony, joy and suffering. Why? In order to be the reflection of God for others, like Jesus is for us. Amen.

Wśród tych, którzy przybyli, aby oddać pokłon Bogu w czasie święta, byli też niektórzy Grecy. Oni więc przystąpili do Filipa, pochodzącego z Betsaidy Galilejskiej, i prosili go, mówiąc: „Panie, chcemy ujrzeć Jezusa”. Filip poszedł i powiedział Andrzejowi. Z kolei Andrzej i Filip poszli i powiedzieli Jezusowi. A Jezus dał im taką odpowiedź: „Nadeszła godzina, aby został uwielbiony Syn Człowieczy. Zaprawdę, zaprawdę powiadam wam: Jeżeli ziarno pszenicy wpadłszy w ziemię nie obumrze, zostanie tylko samo, ale jeżeli obumrze, przynosi plon obfity. Ten, kto miłuje swoje życie, traci je, a kto nienawidzi swego życia na tym świecie, zachowa je na życie wieczne. A kto by chciał Mi służyć, niech idzie za Mną, a gdzie Ja jestem, tam będzie i mój sługa. A jeśli ktoś Mi służy, uczci go mój Ojciec. Teraz dusza moja doznała lęku i cóż mam powiedzieć? Ojcze, wybaw Mnie od tej godziny. Nie, właśnie dlatego przyszedłem na tę godzinę. Ojcze, uwielbij imię Twoje”. Wtem rozległ się głos z nieba: „I uwielbiłem, i znowu uwielbię”. Tłum stojący usłyszał to i mówił: „Zagrzmiało!” Inni mówili: „Anioł przemówił do Niego”. Na to rzekł Jezus: „Głos ten rozległ się nie ze względu na Mnie, ale ze względu na was. Teraz odbywa się sąd nad tym światem. Teraz władca tego świata zostanie precz wyrzucony. A Ja, gdy zostanę nad ziemię wywyższony, przyciągnę wszystkich do siebie”. To powiedział zaznaczając, jaką śmiercią miał umrzeć.

   Każdego dnia zbliżamy się do celebracji Paschalnych Tajemnic naszej wiary, Męki, Śmierci i Zmartwychwstania Jezusa Chrystusa. Dzisiaj Matka Kościół daje do medytacji fragment Ewangelii św. Jana. Podczas jednego żydowskiego święta Pan objawia swoją misję. Wskazuje, jaką śmiercią zostanie ukarany. Oczywiście nie wspomina o krzyżu, ale wszyscy wiemy, że odkupienie dokonało się na dwóch belkach drewna.

 

Ten fragment Ewangelii Jana stał zapowiedzią Chrystusa, Jezus wyjaśnia; przyszedłem wypełnić wolę mojego Ojca Niebieskiego. Sam zaświadczam o tym, co czyni mój Ojciec. Możemy zauważyć prawdę; Jezus jest całkowicie zjednoczony z Bogiem. Chrystus jest prawdziwą ikoną Ojca.

 

 

Jak wygląda jedność Jezusa z Bogiem? Osoba i misja Chrystusa są poddane Pierwszej Osobie Trójcy Świętej. Mamy wyraźny dowód, że Chrystus dobrowolnie jest zanurzony w Ojcu.

 

 Nawet ludzkie uczucia Jezusa zostały oddane Bogu. Praktycznie każdy element życia jest oddany Ojcu.

 

Cała historia i ekonomia Odkupienia ukazują niezwykłe zaangażowanie między Chrystusem a Ojcem.

 

Jezus nigdy nie zachował niczego dla siebie, Jego dzieło, głoszenie, radość i cierpienie zostały dane Bogu, ponieważ Obaj są złączeni w boskości, naturze i miłości.

 

To dla nas wielka wskazówka. Jeśli chcemy naśladować naszego Zbawiciela, powinniśmy czynić to samo, ofiarując moje życie Bogu i wszystko, co jest częścią mnie samego.

 

Starajmy się jednoczyć z Panem, składając dobre świadectwo, radość i cierpienie w Jego ręce. Dlaczego? By być ikoną Boga dla innych, tak jak Jezus jest dla nas obrazem Ojca. Amen.
