Place of God.. Miejsce Boga...

 

John 2:13-25

Destroy this sanctuary and in three days I will raise it up

Just before the Jewish Passover Jesus went up to Jerusalem, and in the Temple he found people selling cattle and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting at their counters there. Making a whip out of some cord, he drove them all out of the Temple, cattle and sheep as well, scattered the money-changers’ coins, knocked their tables over and said to the pigeon-sellers, ‘Take all this out of here and stop turning my Father’s house into a market.’ Then his disciples remembered the words of scripture: Zeal for your house will devour me. The Jews intervened and said, ‘What sign can you show us to justify what you have done?’ Jesus answered, ‘Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will raise it up.’ The Jews replied, ‘It has taken forty-six years to build this sanctuary: are you going to raise it up in three days?’ But he was speaking of the sanctuary that was his body, and when Jesus rose from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scripture and the words he had said.

  During his stay in Jerusalem for the Passover many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he gave, but Jesus knew them all and did not trust himself to them; he never needed evidence about any man; he could tell what a man had in him.

   The Third Sunday of Lent tells us about asituation which took place in a temple, where the Jews usually gathered to pray and listen tothe word of God. Jesus Christ also went there, but what may surprise us, his reaction was full of anger and tension. 

 

Why did Jesus react that way? Because He cared for the temple, as for the place of God. His attitude shows great respect to a sacred place. 

 

This is a great opportunity to remind ourselvesthat we should pay attention to the proper attitude to holy places, churches and chapels. 

 

 

I would like to walk about some other situationfrom the today’s Gospel of John. Jesus said:“Tear down this temple, and I'll rebuild it in three days.” The Jews were confused. “How? It took 46 years to build it, and you want to do itin three days? 

 

“But he was speaking of the sanctuary that was his body”. The answer of Christ became an image of the real view on God and His temple. For the Jewish nation, very important was a place where they could worship God. The most sacred place was Jerusalem and the Salomon’s Temple, where the ten commandments werekept, as a symbol of the covenant between Lord and men. 

 

But the perspective of Jesus is wider. He says about the Church as the Mystic Body of Him. For us, Christian buildings and temples are important, but much more important is the community of baptised people. 

 

Thanks to this truth we can worship our God, wherever we are, on different continents of the Earth, not limited by one place. The whole Christian community meets God and receivesholy sacraments in many different places. 

 

The church is both material and spiritual community, it is a venue of our personal meeting with Jesus, with His sacraments and resurrection. We are something more than somebricks of a building. Through our spiritual involvement we are the Body of Christ. 

 

Let me mention about one more thing. The smallest and the most fundamental structure of the Living Body of Christ is a parish. We are called to build this community by our personal effort and work. This is not a coincidence that we belong to a particular parish, because this is the place of meeting with our Lord. 

 

As a community of our parish, we are responsible for it. This is our Christian Home, where God dwells, and where He waits for us. We should take care for the spiritual and material prosperity of the church, because this is the place where we belong.

 

Thanks be to God for His Holy Body, Church,where we can give our praise. Let us praise God in our parishes, spiritual homes, and in all the other places where we meet with Jesus Christ and his grace. Amen.

Zbliżała się pora Paschy żydowskiej i Jezus udał się do Jerozolimy. W świątyni napotkał tych, którzy sprzedawali woły, baranki i gołębie oraz siedzących za stołami bankierów. Wówczas sporządziwszy sobie bicz ze sznurków, powyrzucał wszystkich ze świątyni, także baranki i woły, porozrzucał monety bankierów, a stoły powywracał. Do tych zaś, którzy sprzedawali gołębie, rzekł: „Weźcie to stąd, a nie róbcie z domu Ojca mego targowiska”. Uczniowie Jego przypomnieli sobie, że napisano: „Gorliwość o dom Twój pożera Mnie”. W odpowiedzi zaś na to Żydzi rzekli do Niego: „Jakim znakiem wykażesz się wobec nas, skoro takie rzeczy czynisz?” Jezus dał im taką odpowiedź: „Zburzcie tę świątynię, a Ja w trzech dniach wzniosę ją na nowo”. Powiedzieli do Niego Żydzi: „Czterdzieści sześć lat budowano tę świątynię, a Ty ją wzniesiesz w przeciągu trzech dni?” On zaś mówił o świątyni swego ciała. Gdy więc zmartwychwstał, przypomnieli sobie uczniowie Jego, że to powiedział, i uwierzyli Pismu i słowu, które wyrzekł Jezus. Kiedy zaś przebywał w Jerozolimie w czasie Paschy, w dniu świątecznym, wielu uwierzyło w imię Jego, widząc znaki, które czynił. Jezus natomiast nie zwierzał się im, bo dobrze wszystkich znał i nie potrzebował niczyjego świadectwa o człowieku. Sam bowiem wiedział, co się kryje w człowieku.

   Trzecia Niedziela Wielkiego Postu relacjonuje sytuację, która miała miejsce w świątyni, gdzie Żydzi jak zwykle zebrali się, aby modlić się i słuchać słowa Bożego. Był tam Jezus Chrystus, ale co możemy nas dziwić, to jego reakcja, która była pełna złości i napięcia.

 

Dlaczego Jezus tak reaguje? Ze względu na jego troskę o świątynię jako miejsce Boga. Jego postawa świadczy o wielkim szacunku dla miejsca świętego jako Sanktuarium Najwyższego.

 

To świetna okazja, aby przypomnieć sobie o właściwym stosunku do miejsc świętych, kościołów i kaplic.

 

 

Chciałbym zwrócić uwagę na jeszcze inną sytuację dzisiejszej Ewangelii św. Jana. Jezus mówi: zniszcz tę świątynię, a odbuduję ją za trzy dni. Żydzi byli zdezorientowani. W jaki sposób? Świątynia została zbudowana przez 46 lat, a ty zbudujesz ją w trzy dni?

 

„Ale on mówił o sanktuarium, które było jego ciałem”. Odpowiedź Chrystusa stała się konfrontacją dotyczącą prawdziwego spojrzenia na Boga i Jego świątynię. Dla narodu żydowskiego miejsce było tak ważne jako mieszkanie Boga. Najświętszym miejscem była Jerozolima i Świątynia Salomona, gdzie było dziesięć przykazań, jako przymierze między Stwórcą a człowiekiem.

 

perspektywa widzenia Jezusa jest szersza, mówi o Kościele jako Jego Mistycznym Ciele, który narodził się na Krzyżu, z przebitego boku Chrystusa. Dla nas ważne są chrześcijańskie budowle i materialne świątynie, ale obecność Boga nie jest tylko ścianą i kształtem kościoła, ale wspólnotą ochrzczonych.

 

Dzięki tej prawdzie możemy oddawać cześć naszemu Bogu, gdziekolwiek jesteśmy, na różnych kontynentach ziemi, nie będąc ograniczonym przez jedno miejsce. Cała wspólnota chrześcijańska spotyka się z Bogiem i przyjmuje sakramenty święte w Kościele, w Mistycznym Ciele i jest obecna w wielu różnych miejscach.

 

Kościół to wspólnota materialna i duchowa, to miejsce mojego osobistego spotkania z Jezusem, z Jego sakramentami i Zmartwychwstaniem. Jesteśmy czymś więcej niż cegłami budynku, ale dzięki naszemu duchowemu zaangażowaniu jesteśmy Ciałem Chrystusa.

 

Chciałbym wspomnieć o jednej rzeczy jeszcze. Najmniejszą i podstawową strukturą Żywego Ciała Chrystusa jest parafia. Jesteśmy wezwani do budowania tej wspólnoty własnym wysiłkiem i pracą. To nie przypadek, że należymy do tej parafii, bo to jest moje miejsce i sanktuarium spotkania z moim Panem.

 

To jest mój chrześcijański dom, w którym mieszka Bóg i czeka na mnie. Powinienem troszczyć się o duchowy i materialny dobrobyt Kościoła, ponieważ to jest moje miejsce na ziemi, poprzez zaangażowanie mojej wiary.

 

Bogu niech będą dzięki, za Jego Święte Ciało, Kościół, że możemy Go wychwalać wszędzie, a nie tylko w jednym miejscu. Chwalmy Boga za nasze parafie,  duchowe domy, za miejsca spotkań z Jezusem Chrystusem i Jego łaską. Amen.
