Mark 10:17-30

Give everything you own to the poor, and follow me

Jesus was setting out on a journey when a man ran up, knelt before him and put this question to him, ‘Good master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ Jesus said to him, ‘Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: You must not kill; You must not commit adultery; You must not steal; You must not bring false witness; You must not defraud; Honour your father and mother.’ And he said to him, ‘Master, I have kept all these from my earliest days.’ Jesus looked steadily at him and loved him, and he said, ‘There is one thing you lack. Go and sell everything you own and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.’ But his face fell at these words and he went away sad, for he was a man of great wealth.

  Jesus looked round and said to his disciples, ‘How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!’ The disciples were astounded by these words, but Jesus insisted, ‘My children,’ he said to them ‘how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.’ They were more astonished than ever. ‘In that case’ they said to one another ‘who can be saved?’ Jesus gazed at them. ‘For men’ he said ‘it is impossible, but not for God: because everything is possible for God.’

  Peter took this up. ‘What about us?’ he asked him. ‘We have left everything and followed you.’ Jesus said, ‘I tell you solemnly, there is no one who has left house, brothers, sisters, father, children or land for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not be repaid a hundred times over, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and land – not without persecutions – now in this present time and, in the world to come, eternal life.’

    We are pilgrims on earth, and the whole existence here is temporal. Everything we aim, it has been given to us to serve and to help for us now. God said in the Book of Genesis to Adam and Eve, to make the earth subjected for them. 

 

Reading the Gospel of Mark, with the eyes of the imagination we see a young man asking the Lord, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He was with pure desire to follow Jesus, to serve him. 

 

Christ responded to him, observe the commandments as the moral values. The problem had started, while Jesus said, sell everything you have, and the money give to the poor. Afterwards, follow me. 

 

And this condition of the Lord was unacceptable, because the richness was about the everything of his life. The material things, possession became the obstacles to leave it, and to come with Master. He puts at stake his salvation for earthy goods.

 

This is typical situation, while a man has become a slave of the world, seeing in richness own safety.

 

The subject of richness is actual for nowadays. We live in a materialistic society, aiming hope and joy into owning. People think, my possession makes me happy, but the reality is different, it happens for a while, and it motivates a man to gain something more and more, running around.

 

Some of them put at the stake of own spiritual life, like the man from the Gospel, putting the goods above the salvation, paying a great price. 

 

Of course, we need money, material goods, to afford for daily life, but this all about is to guarantee me and my family the stability, and to serve to the Lord and my neighbours.

 

Material things, there are about the instrument for life, not the purpose itself. 

 

Otherwise, the aspiration for richness at any cost, it brings problems, frustration, depression, anger and fear.  The material benefits may become a curse of the modern society, making a deep illusion and mental frustration for men. 

 

Peter asked the Lord, and what about us, we have left our families, homes. And Jesus Christ answered, you will get a hundred times more at the end, you will gain eternal life. 

 

This is the answer to us on today, everything I aim, it is now, to follow God, and the possession should be a help and an instrument to gain eternity, without becoming it the main purpose in my life. Amen. 

 

 

(Mk 10, 17-30) 
Gdy Jezus wybierał się w drogę, przybiegł pewien człowiek i upadłszy przed Nim na kolana, zaczął Go pytać: "Nauczycielu dobry, co mam czynić, aby osiągnąć życie wieczne?" Jezus mu rzekł: "Czemu nazywasz Mnie dobrym? Nikt nie jest dobry, tylko sam Bóg. Znasz przykazania: Nie zabijaj, nie cudzołóż, nie kradnij, nie zeznawaj fałszywie, nie oszukuj, czcij swego ojca i matkę". On Mu odpowiedział: "Nauczycielu, wszystkiego tego przestrzegałem od mojej młodości". Wtedy Jezus spojrzał na niego z miłością i rzekł mu: "Jednego ci brakuje. Idź, sprzedaj wszystko, co masz, i rozdaj ubogim, a będziesz miał skarb w niebie. Potem przyjdź i chodź za Mną". Lecz on spochmurniał na te słowa i odszedł zasmucony, miał bowiem wiele posiadłości. Wówczas Jezus spojrzał dookoła i rzekł do swoich uczniów: «Jak trudno tym, którzy mają dostatki, wejść do królestwa Bożego». Uczniowie przerazili się Jego słowami, lecz Jezus powtórnie im rzekł: "Dzieci, jakże trudno wejść do królestwa Bożego tym, którzy w dostatkach pokładają ufność. Łatwiej jest wielbłądowi przejść przez ucho igielne, niż bogatemu wejść do królestwa Bożego". A oni tym bardziej się dziwili i mówili między sobą: "Któż więc może być zbawiony?" Jezus popatrzył na nich i rzekł: "U ludzi to niemożliwe, ale nie u Boga; bo u Boga wszystko jest możliwe". Wtedy Piotr zaczął mówić do Niego: "Oto my opuściliśmy wszystko i poszliśmy za Tobą". Jezus odpowiedział: "Zaprawdę, powiadam wam: Nikt nie opuszcza domu, braci, sióstr, matki, ojca, dzieci lub pól z powodu Mnie i z powodu Ewangelii, żeby nie otrzymał stokroć więcej teraz, w tym czasie, domów, braci, sióstr, matek, dzieci i pól, wśród prześladowań, a życia wiecznego w czasie przyszłym".

    Jesteśmy pielgrzymami na ziemi, a całe nasze istnienie tutaj jest doczesne. Wszystko do czego dążymy, zostało nam dane, aby służyć i pomagać nam teraz. Bóg powiedział w Księdze Rodzaju do Adama Ewy, aby czynili sobie ziemię poddaną.

 

Czytając Ewangelię Łukasza, oczami wyobraźni widzimy młodego człowieka, który pyta Pana, co mam czynić, aby odziedziczyć życie wieczne? Miał czyste pragnienie, aby pójść za Jezusem, aby mu służyć.

 

Chrystus odpowiedział, przestrzegaj przykazań jako wartości moralnych. Problem się zaczął, podczas gdy Jezus powiedział, sprzedaj wszystko, co masz, a pieniądze rozdaj ubogim. Potem chodź ze mną.

 

Ten warunek Pana był nie do przyjęcia, ponieważ bogactwo stanowiło całe jego życie. Rzeczy materialne, posiadanie, stały się przeszkodami, aby je zostawić i pójść za Mistrzem. Stawia on na szali swoje zbawienie dla dóbr ziemskich.

 

To jest typowa sytuacja, gdy człowiek staje się niewolnikiem świata, widząc w bogactwie własne bezpieczeństwo.

 

W tym momencie docieramy do głównego sensu Ewangelii, ten temat bogactwa jest aktualny w dzisiejszych czasach. Żyjemy w materialistycznym społeczeństwie, lokując nadzieję i radość w posiadaniu. Ludzie myślą, że moje dobra czynią mnie szczęśliwym, ale rzeczywistość jest odwrotnie, ​​dzieje się ta, że człowiek „goni” za zdobywaniem czegoś coraz więcej, „biegając w kółko”.

 

Niektórzy z nas stawiają na szali własne życie duchowe, jak człowiek z Ewangelii, kładąc akcent na dobra ponad własne zbawienie, płacąc za to wysoką cenę.

 

Oczywiście, potrzebujemy pieniędzy, materialnej własności, aby móc sobie zapewnić codzienne życie, to jest troska o sobie i moją rodzinę, w międzyczasie za pomocą materialnej stabilizacji, mogę służyć Bogu i moim bliźnim.

 

Rzeczy materialne są narzędziem do życia, a nie celem samym w sobie.

 

W przeciwnym razie dążenie do bogactwa za wszelką cenę przynosi problemy, frustrację, depresję, gniew i strach. Korzyści materialne mogą stać się przekleństwem współczesnego społeczeństwa, czyniąc głęboką iluzję i frustrację psychiczną ludzi.

 

Piotr zapytał Pana, a co z nami, opuściliśmy nasze rodziny, domy. Jezus Chrystus był bardzo konkretny odpowiadając na to pytanie, otrzymacie sto razy więcej, zdobywając życie wieczne.

 

Wszystko do czego dążę teraz, ma mi pomagać w podążaniu za Bogiem, a posiadanie powinno być pomocą i narzędziem do zdobycia wieczności, nie  a stając się głównym celem w moim życiu. Amen.
