Mary, the Mother of God... Maryja, Boża Rodzicielka...

 

Luke 2:16-21

The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem and found the baby lying in the manger

The shepherds hurried away to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. When they saw the child they repeated what they had been told about him, and everyone who heard it was astonished at what the shepherds had to say. As for Mary, she treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds went back glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen; it was exactly as they had been told.

  When the eighth day came and the child was to be circumcised, they gave him the name Jesus, the name the angel had given him before his conception.

   Today we accompany the shepherds on their way to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born. We meet His mother and see; how important she is. She was with Jesus in Bethlehem, and she is with us during the first day of the new year.

 

Blessed Mary carries the message of peace to the world. Because of that, the first day of every year is known as the International Day of Prayer for Peace.  

 

Every day, we see how much we need peace – how many wars are there in the world and how much hatred we can find. How much suffering of Christians and people of other religions we can find in places such as Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Nigeria and in many other countries in the world. For 10 month we are the witness of a war in our doors, in Ukraine. Damaging and nonsense conflict, which claims a great number of the innocence people, civilians, women, children. 

 

Every human life is invaluably, any death of those, who are not guilty of this war, makes is painful and despaired. It is so unfair and still there is no end of this hatred.  

 

The world needs peace more than anything else.

 

Pope Francis has asked us to pray for peace, establishing the 26^th of January 2023, as the Prayer Day for Peace. 

 

It is an invitation for us because we are responsible for peace. Pope Francis said; that we should build our attitude towards other people through respecting moral norms and values. The God's commandment shows us how we should do it. We all know this commandment – Jesus said: "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.

This is the greatest and the first commandment.

The second resembles it: You must love your neighbor as yourself". Mt 27, 37-39

 

We should pray for the end of all wars and conflicts in the world and we should try to change our attitude towards other people. 

 

Apart of that, celebrating this day, we should remember about our earthy Mothers. May this first day of New Year 2023 be a good occasion to say our thanksgiving to them, who made a great effort to us, thought the whole life of us. Mum, thank you for your motherhood. Thank you to all mothers, who are still alive, and to these, who passed away. 

 

Blessed Mary, Mother of Peace, pray for us and ask your Son for the peace in the world, and for our Mothers. 

 

(Łk 2,16-21) 
Pasterze pospiesznie udali się do Betlejem i znaleźli Maryję, Józefa i Niemowlę, leżące w żłobie. Gdy Je ujrzeli, opowiedzieli o tym, co im zostało objawione o tym Dziecięciu. A wszyscy, którzy to słyszeli, dziwili się temu, co im pasterze opowiadali. Lecz Maryja zachowywała wszystkie te sprawy i rozważała je w swoim sercu. A pasterze wrócili, wielbiąc i wysławiając Boga za wszystko, co słyszeli i widzieli, jak im to było powiedziane. Gdy nadszedł dzień ósmy i należało obrzezać Dziecię, nadano Mu imię Jezus, którym Je nazwał anioł, zanim się poczęło w łonie Matki.

Dzisiaj towarzyszymy pasterzom w drodze do Betlejem, gdzie narodził się Jezus. Spotykamy Jego matkę i widzimy; jaka ona jest ważna. Była z Jezusem w Betlejem i jest z nami w pierwszy dzień nowego roku.

 

Błogosławiona Maryja niesie orędzie pokoju światu. Z tego powodu pierwszy dzień każdego roku nazywany jest Międzynarodowym Dniem Modlitw o Pokój.

 

Każdego dnia widzimy, jak bardzo potrzebujemy pokoju – ile wojen jest na świecie i ile nienawiści możemy znaleźć. Ileż cierpienia chrześcijan i wyznawców innych religii możemy znaleźć w takich miejscach jak Syria, Irak, Somalia, Nigeria i w wielu innych krajach świata. Od 10 miesięcy jesteśmy świadkami wojny u naszych drzwi, na Ukrainie. Szkodliwy i bezsensowny konflikt, który pochłania ogromną liczbę niewinnych ludzi, cywilów, kobiet, dzieci.

 

Każde ludzkie życie jest bezcenne, każda śmierć tych, którzy nie są winni tej wojny, jest bolesna i rozpaczliwa. To takie niesprawiedliwe, a tej nienawiści wciąż nie ma końca.

 

Świat potrzebuje pokoju bardziej niż czegokolwiek innego.

 

Papież Franciszek poprosił nas o modlitwę o pokój, ustanawiając 26 stycznia 2023 r. Dniem Modlitw o Pokój.

 

Jest to zaproszenie dla nas, ponieważ jesteśmy odpowiedzialni za pokój. Papież Franciszek powiedział; że powinniśmy budować swoją postawę wobec drugiego człowieka poprzez respektowanie norm i wartości moralnych. Przykazanie Boże pokazuje nam, jak powinniśmy to czynić. Wszyscy znamy to przykazanie – Jezus powiedział: 

„Będziesz miłował Pana Boga swego całym swoim sercem, całą swoją duszą i całym swoim umysłem. To jest największe i pierwsze przykazanie.  Drugie podobne jest do niego: Będziesz miłował swego bliźniego jak siebie samego”. Mt 22,37-39

 

Powinniśmy modlić się o zakończenie wszystkich wojen i konfliktów na świecie i starać się zmienić nasze nastawienie do innych ludzi.

 

Poza tym świętując ten dzień powinniśmy pamiętać o naszych ziemskich Mamach. Niech ten pierwszy dzień Nowego Roku 2023 będzie dobrą okazją do podziękowania tym, którzy przez całe życie myśleli o nas z wielkim trudem. Mamo, dziękuję Ci za Twoje macierzyństwo. Dziękuję wszystkim mamom, które jeszcze żyją i tym, które odeszły.

 

Błogosławiona Maryjo, Matko Pokoju, módl się za nami i uproś u swego Syna pokój na świecie i za nasze Matki.

The Nativity of Jesus Christ... Boże Narodzenia...

 

Luke 2:1-14

'In the town of David a saviour has been born to you'

Caesar Augustus issued a decree for a census of the whole world to be taken. This census – the first – took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria, and everyone went to his own town to be registered. So Joseph set out from the town of Nazareth in Galilee and travelled up to Judaea, to the town of David called Bethlehem, since he was of David’s House and line, in order to be registered together with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to a son, her first born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them at the inn. 

  In the countryside close by there were shepherds who lived in the fields and took it in turns to watch their flocks during the night. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone round them. They were terrified, but the angel said, ‘Do not be afraid. Listen, I bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by the whole people. Today in the town of David a saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. And here is a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.’ And suddenly with the angel there was a great throng of the heavenly host, praising God and singing:

‘Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and peace to men who enjoy his favour.’

The Christmas Day, the time which so many people were waiting for, because of a different reason. For us, Christians, that day is the day of faith which has a spiritual meaning. 

 

The Son of God became one of us with all consequences but without a sin. God, Jesus Christ, trough His Incarnation and Nativity is close to His people. God, Who is a spirit, took a human body in order united with us in our humanity. 

 

On this day we focus especially on Bethlehem where Jesus was born. It helps us to understand what God has done for us. That is why we also need some material signs and things, like decorations, extraordinary atmosphere, the family table and meetings. 

 

All these things may help us to discover something more. The main guest and the reason of our celebration is Jesus – a little, defenseless child, with Mary and Joseph. They want to take place in our homes and stay together with our families without any harm. Not as intruders but those who need our acceptation and hospitality.

 

What do they offer us instead? Jesus wants to give us a real taste and meaning of the Christmas day. His blessing and care. It is His desire to celebrate His birth with us. From the human point of view, it is difficult to rejoice on a birthday day without a jubilarian. 

 

Christ does not need any gifts, apart one – He wants to be noticed, he wants to draw our attention. I am here, he says. We have been waiting for Him for  4 weeks of Advent. Without Him, this time is just a moment of a good atmosphere, nothing else. 

 

I remember, when as a student I was doing my ministry practice. For some time I was living in the mountains with a group of other people. What was very interesting, they used to discuss after lunch about what they read in the Bible. This situation drew my attention, because people, who worked as farmers, they wanted to talk about their faith. 

 

Let’s try to do the same. Spend time together, at home, at a table, during a walk, to share with each other what does it mean for me that Jesus was born. This a significant testimony of faith. This is a smal thing, but on the other hand, we pay attention to God, who is the reason of our celebration.

 

Jesus Christ, thank you for your birth, and being with us. May these Christmas days be experienced with you, Mary, and Joseph, let us behave like the shepherds from Bethlehem, who went to praise the God at that night. Amen.

W owym czasie wyszło rozporządzenie Cezara Augusta, żeby przeprowadzić spis ludności w całym świecie. Pierwszy ten spis odbył się wówczas, gdy wielkorządcą Syrii był Kwiryniusz. Podążali więc wszyscy, aby się dać zapisać, każdy do swego miasta. Udał się także Józef z Galilei, z miasta Nazaret, do Judei, do miasta Dawidowego zwanego Betlejem, ponieważ pochodził z domu i rodu Dawida, żeby się dać zapisać z poślubioną sobie Maryją, która była brzemienna. Kiedy tam przebywali, nadszedł dla Maryi czas rozwiązania. Powiła swego pierworodnego Syna, owinęła Go w pieluszki i położyła w żłobie, gdyż nie było dla nich miejsca w gospodzie. W tej samej okolicy przebywali w polu pasterze i trzymali straż nocną nad swoją trzodą. Wtem stanął przy nich anioł Pański i chwała Pańska zewsząd ich oświeciła, tak że bardzo się przestraszyli. I rzekł do nich anioł: "Nie bójcie się! Oto zwiastuję wam radość wielką, która będzie udziałem całego narodu: dziś bowiem w mieście Dawida narodził się wam Zbawiciel, którym jest Mesjasz, Pan. A to będzie znakiem dla was: znajdziecie Niemowlę owinięte w pieluszki i leżące w żłobie". I nagle przyłączyło się do anioła mnóstwo zastępów niebieskich, które wielbiły Boga słowami: "Chwała Bogu na wysokościach, a na ziemi pokój ludziom, w których sobie upodobał".

    Boże Narodzenie, czas, na który tak wiele osób czekało z różnego powodu. Dla nas chrześcijan ten dzień jest dniem wiary, mającym wymiar duchowy.

 

Syn Boży stał się jednym z nas, ponosząc wszystkie ludzkie konsekwencje, poza grzechem. Bóg, Jezus Chrystus przez swoje Wcielenie i Boże Narodzenie jest bliski dla swojego ludu. Bóg, który jest duchem, przyjął ciało, aby móc się z nami zjednoczyć w naszym człowieczeństwie.

 

Tego dnia wpatrujemy się w szopkę i myślami podążamy do Betlejem, gdzie narodził się Jezus. Te widzialne rzeczy i miejsca pomagają nam zrozumieć, co Bóg dla nas zrobił. Potrzebujemy materialnych znaków i rzeczy, dekoracji, niezwykła

ej atmosfery, rodzinnego stołu i spotkanie.

 

To wszystko może pomóc nam odkryć coś więcej, coś najważniejszego, że głównym gościem i powodem celebracji jest Jezus, małe, bezbronne Dzieciątko z Matką Maryją i Józefem. Oni chcą zagościć w naszym domu i przebywać razem z moją rodziną bez szkody, nie jako intruz, ale jako ci, którzy potrzebują naszej akceptacji i gościnności.

 

Co nam oferują w zamian? Jezus czeka, aby dać prawdziwy smak i znaczenie Bożego Narodzenia, swoje błogosławieństwo i opiekę. To jest jego pragnienie, aby świętować z nim Jego narodziny. Z ludzkiego punktu widzenia trudno jest cieszyć się urodzinami bez jubilata.

 

Chrystus nie potrzebuje żadnych prezentów, oprócz jednego, żeby być zauważonym, chce zwrócić naszą uwagę, Jestem z wami, czekaliście 4 tygodnie Adwentu na Mnie. Beze Mnie ten czas to chwila dobrej atmosfery, nic więcej.

 

Pamiętam jako student odbywałem praktykę duszpasterską, mieszkając w domu ludzi w górach. Co zaciekawiło mnie, po obiedzie ci ludzie rozmawiali o tym, co przeczytali w Biblii. Ta sytuacja zwróciła moją uwagę, ludzie, którzy ciężko pracowali jako rolnicy, chcieli rozmawiać między sobą o wierze.

 

Spróbujmy zrobić to samo, spędzając razem czas, w domu, przy stole, na spacerze, dzielić się sobą, co to dla mnie znaczy, że narodził się Jezus. To znaczące świadectwo wiary. To nie wielki wysiłek, ale z drugiej strony zwracamy uwagę na Boga, który jest powodem naszego świętowania.

 

Jezu Chryste, dziękujemy Ci za Twoje narodziny i bycie z nami. Niech te świąteczne dni będą przeżywane z Tobą, Maryją i Józefem. Niech każdy z nas czyni to samo, co pasterze z Betlejem, którzy tej nocy poszli wielbić Boga. Amen.

How Jesus Christ came to be born

This is how Jesus Christ came to be born. His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph; but before they came to live together she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph; being a man of honour and wanting to spare her publicity, decided to divorce her informally. He had made up his mind to do this when the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because she has conceived what is in her by the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son and you must name him Jesus, because he is the one who is to save his people from their sins.’ Now all this took place to fulfil the words spoken by the Lord through the prophet:

The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son 

and they will call him Emmanuel,

a name which means ‘God-is-with-us.’ When Joseph woke up he did what the angel of the Lord had told him to do: he took his wife to his home.

    The time of Advent is coming to an end and the readings of the last days of Advent introduce the mystery of Jesus’ birth and the circumstances connected with that event.

 

The IV Sunday of Advent tells about two people who had a very special place in the plan of God. Those people, in a different way, answered to the Lord’s call. In the readings of the Prophet Isaiah we can hear about the King of Israel, Ahaz. His Kingdom was in danger because the neighbours of him wanted to subdue the country of Israel. One day prophet Isaiah appeared before the King and said: ask your God for a sign. The King answered: “I will not put to the test my Lord”.

 

While we are reading these words, it seems to us that Ahaz was a very honest man who respected God. But the situation was quite different – his words were plenty of wickedness. He did not care of God and the majesty of the Lord. Even more, he spurned God’s help and support.

 

Why? Earlier he made an agreement with other kings who had promised to help him. What was the result of this human plan? King Ahaz was defeated by his opponents and enemies and he lost the Kingdom. 

 

The same story is repeating today – how many kings of Ahaz we have. God reacts for their needs but they prefer to get help from other people than from God. How much spiritual and material poverty do we have? Such people are like Ahaz, they have their own plan, instead God, they choose themselves. 

 

The results of such actions are poor. People are overburden with problems, suffer from have depression or even commit a suicide.  The modern society is broken and weak, cannot find the sense of life. People reject God who is the Creator of all things.

 

Let’s have a look at the next person from the today’s readings. The Gospel of Matthew presents us Joseph. His situation was similar to the position of king Ahaz. He was the husband of Mary. One day, Joseph found out that Mary was pregnant. Because he was an honest man, he wanted to take a divorce with Mary, to keep her safe from death and infamy. The situation was very hard – he was a husband of her, had a lot of plans, and then a single event changed everything.  God appeared in a dream and said: Joseph, do not be afraid to take you wife, the child in her womb is the Son of God. The plan of God has to be done. On the contrary to Ahaz, Joseph trusted God and followed His words. And finally, he won eternal life, as a saint spouse of Mary. 

 

The attitude of Joseph shows us the way of how to trust in God. Our Lord is watching us, and always wants to help us. He has a solution for everyone, if we only believe. For Christians the impossible does not exist. Jesus says: have faith, and all your problems will be solved. 

 

One American Institution made an experiment concerning the influence of faith on people. Medical and sociological results were impressive – the believers and those who rely on God, were happier than others. Saint Joseph and his example shows that with God we are able to overcome all problems. Sometimes we may not understand God and His ways, but we need to pray more and be patient. God’s help will come. 

 

Jesus Christ, the Incarnated Son of God, help me to choose the Joseph’s way and make me a happier man. Amen.

 

 

 

(Mt 1,18-24) 
Z narodzeniem Jezusa Chrystusa było tak. Po zaślubinach Matki Jego, Maryi, z Józefem, wpierw nim zamieszkali razem, znalazła się brzemienna za sprawą Ducha Świętego. Mąż Jej, Józef, który był człowiekiem prawym i nie chciał narazić Jej na zniesławienie, zamierzał oddalić Ją potajemnie. Gdy powziął tę myśl, oto anioł Pański ukazał mu się we śnie i rzekł: ”Józefie, synu Dawida, nie bój się wziąć do siebie Maryi, twej Małżonki; albowiem z Ducha Świętego jest to, co się w Niej poczęło. Porodzi Syna, któremu nadasz imię Jezus, On bowiem zbawi swój lud od jego grzechów”. A stało się to wszystko, aby się wypełniło słowo Pańskie powiedziane przez proroka: Oto Dziewica pocznie i porodzi Syna, któremu nadadzą imię Emmanuel, to znaczy ”Bóg z nami”. Zbudziwszy się ze snu, Józef uczynił tak, jak mu polecił anioł Pański: wziął swoją Małżonkę do siebie.

    Czas Adwentu dobiega końca, a czytania z ostatnich dni Adwentu wprowadzają w tajemnicę narodzin Jezusa i okoliczności związane z tym wydarzeniem.

 

IV Niedziela Adwentu opowiada o dwojgu ludziach, którzy zajęli szczególne miejsce w Bożym planie. Ci ludzie w inny sposób odpowiedzieli na wezwanie Pana. W czytaniach proroka Izajasza możemy usłyszeć o królu Izraela Achazie. Jego Królestwo było w niebezpieczeństwie, ponieważ jego sąsiedzi chcieli podporządkować sobie kraj Izraela. Pewnego dnia prorok Izajasz pojawił się przed królem i powiedział: proś swego Boga o znak. Król odpowiedział: „Nie będę wystawiał na próbę, mój Panie”.

 

Kiedy czytamy te słowa, wydaje nam się, że Achaz był bardzo uczciwym człowiekiem, który szanował Boga. Ale sytuacja była zupełnie inna – w jego słowach było mnóstwo niegodziwości. Nie troszczył się o Boga i majestat Pana. Co więcej, odrzucił Bożą pomoc i wsparcie.

 

Dlaczego? Wcześniej zawarł porozumienie z innymi królami, którzy obiecali mu pomóc. Jaki był rezultat tego ludzkiego planu? Król Achaz został pokonany przez swoich przeciwników i wrogów, straciwszy królestwo.

 

Ta sama historia powtarza się dzisiaj – ilu mamy królów Achaza. Bóg reaguje na ich potrzeby, ale oni wolą otrzymać pomoc od innych ludzi niż od Boga. Ile mamy duchowego i materialnego ubóstwa? Tacy ludzie są jak Achaz, mają swój własny plan, zamiast Boga, wybierają siebie.

 

Efekty takich działań są mizerne. Ludzie są przytłoczeni problemami, popadają w depresję, a nawet popełniają samobójstwa. Współczesne społeczeństwo jest zepsute i słabe, nie może odnaleźć sensu życia. Ludzie odrzucają Boga, który jest Stwórcą wszystkich rzeczy.

 

Przyjrzyjmy się kolejnej osobie z dzisiejszych czytań. Ewangelia Mateusza przedstawia nam Józefa. Jego sytuacja była podobna do sytuacji króla Achaza. Był mężem Marii. Pewnego dnia Józef dowiedział się, że Maria jest w ciąży. Ponieważ był człowiekiem uczciwym, chciał się rozwieść z Marią, aby uchronić ją przed śmiercią i hańbą. Sytuacja była bardzo ciężka – był jej mężem, miał wiele planów, a potem jedno wydarzenie zmieniło wszystko. Bóg ukazał się we śnie i powiedział: Józefie, nie bój się wziąć Maryi za żonę, dziecko w jej łonie jest Synem Bożym. Plan Boży musi zostać wykonany. W przeciwieństwie do Achaza, Józef ufał Bogu i postępował zgodnie z Jego słowami. Zdobył życie wieczne, jako święty małżonek Maryi.

 

Postawa Józefa pokazuje nam, jak ufać Bogu. Nasz Pan nas obserwuje i zawsze chce nam pomóc. On ma rozwiązanie dla każdego, jeśli tylko w to wierzymy. Dla chrześcijan niemożliwe nie istnieje. Jezus mówi: miej wiarę, a wszystkie twoje problemy zostaną rozwiązane.

 

Pewna amerykańska instytucja przeprowadziła eksperyment dotyczący wpływu wiary na ludzi. Wyniki medyczne i socjologiczne były imponujące – wierzący i ci, którzy polegają na Bogu, byli szczęśliwsi niż inni. Święty Józef i jego przykład pokazują, że z Bogiem jesteśmy w stanie przezwyciężyć wszystkie problemy. Czasami możemy nie rozumieć Boga i Jego dróg, ale musimy więcej się modlić i być cierpliwi. Boża pomoc nadejdzie.

 

Jezu Chryste, Wcielony Syn Boży, pomóż mi wybrać drogę Józefa i uczyń mnie szczęśliwszym człowiekiem. Amen.

 

 

What am I looking for? Czego szukam?

 

Matthew 11:2-11

'A greater than John the Baptist has never been seen'

John in his prison had heard what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or have we got to wait for someone else?’ Jesus answered, ‘Go back and tell John what you hear and see; the blind see again, and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised to life and the Good News is proclaimed to the poor; and happy is the man who does not lose faith in me.’

  As the messengers were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John: ‘What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No? Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Oh no, those who wear fine clothes are to be found in palaces. Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet: he is the one of whom scripture says:

‘Look, I am going to send my messenger before you;

he will prepare your way before you.

‘I tell you solemnly, of all the children born of women, a greater than John the Baptist has never been seen; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.’

    The Third Sunday of Advent is called as the Sunday of Gaudete, it means the Sunday of Joy? Why should we experience that day, as a day of joy? The answer is, the Lord is coming soon, and the Mystery of the Incarnation is at hand. In two weeks time we will be celebrating Christmas, the Son of God has become one of us.  

 

Reading the Gospel of Matthew, we may notice, the disciples of John the Baptist asked Jesus Christ, are you that person, we should wait for? 

 

In the response, Jesus said to them, confirming, he is the Messiah.  

 

The main moment of the Gospel is, when Christ put the question, why do you go out into a wildness? To see something special, a man clothed in a linen cloth?

 

Yes, I am the Son of God, responses Jesus, but what do you want to see, what is your motivation about. 

 

The same question is towards me. If we are closer and closer of the Lord birth, we need to ask ourself, what am I looking for during this solemn time. Time of Christmas will last, but the question about sense of life is still on. 

 

Let us pray for a greater desire to have Jesus in my heart, as St. Alphonsus used to say, not to lose Jesus of our sight. Amen. 

 

 

 

 

 

(Mt 11,2-11) 
Gdy Jan usłyszał w więzieniu o czynach Chrystusa, posłał swoich uczniów z zapytaniem: „Czy Ty jesteś Tym, który ma przyjść, czy też innego mamy oczekiwać?”. Jezus im odpowiedział: „Idźcie i oznajmijcie Janowi to, co słyszycie i na co patrzycie: niewidomi wzrok odzyskują, chromi chodzą, trędowaci doznają oczyszczenia, głusi słyszą, umarli zmartwychwstają, ubogim głosi się Ewangelię. A błogosławiony jest ten, kto we Mnie nie zwątpi”. Gdy oni odchodzili, Jezus zaczął mówić do tłumów o Janie: „Coście wyszli oglądać na pustyni? Trzcinę kołyszącą się na wietrze? Ale coście wyszli zobaczyć? Człowieka w miękkie szaty ubranego? Oto w domach królewskich są ci, którzy miękkie szaty noszą. Po coście więc wyszli? Proroka zobaczyć? Tak, powiadam wam, nawet więcej niż proroka. On jest tym, o którym napisano: Oto Ja posyłam mego wysłańca przed Tobą, aby Ci przygotował drogę. Zaprawdę powiadam wam: Między narodzonymi z niewiast nie powstał większy od Jana Chrzciciela. Lecz najmniejszy w królestwie niebieskim większy jest niż on”.

   Trzecia Niedziela Adwentu nazywana jest Niedzielą Gaudete, czyli Niedzielą Radości? Dlaczego powinniśmy przeżywać ten dzień jako dzień radości? Odpowiedź brzmi: Pan wkrótce przyjdzie i zbliża się Tajemnica Wcielenia. Za dwa tygodnie będziemy obchodzić Boże Narodzenie, Syn Boży stał się jednym z nas.

 

Czytając Ewangelię Mateusza możemy zauważyć, że uczniowie Jana Chrzciciela zapytali Jezusa Chrystusa, czy jesteś tą osobą, na którą mamy czekać?

 

W odpowiedzi Jezus odpowiedział im, potwierdzając, że jest Mesjaszem.

 

Głównym wydarzeniem Ewangelii jest moment, w którym Chrystus zadał pytanie ludziom, dlaczego wyszliście na pustynię? Aby zobaczyć coś szczególnego, mężczyznę odzianego w płótno?

 

Tak, Ja jestem Synem Bożym, odpowiada Jezus, ale co chcesz zobaczyć, jaka jest twoja motywacja.

 

To samo pytanie jest skierowane do mnie. Jeśli jesteśmy coraz bliżej narodzin Pana, musimy zadać sobie pytanie, czego szukam w tym uroczystym czasie. Czas Świąt przeminie, ale pytanie o sens życia wciąż będzie aktualne.

 

Módlmy się o większe pragnienie posiadania Jezusa w sercu, jak mawiał św. Alfons, aby nie stracić Jezusa z oczu. Amen.

John the Baptist... Jan Chrzciciel...

 

Matthew 3:1-12

The one who follows me will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire

In due course John the Baptist appeared; he preached in the wilderness of Judaea and this was his message: ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.’ This was the man the prophet Isaiah spoke of when he said:

A voice cries in the wilderness:

Prepare a way for the Lord,

make his paths straight.

This man John wore a garment made of camel-hair with a leather belt round his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem and all Judaea and the whole Jordan district made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him in the river Jordan they confessed their sins. But when he saw a number of Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism he said to them, ‘Brood of vipers, who warned you to fly from the retribution that is coming? But if you are repentant, produce the appropriate fruit, and do not presume to tell yourselves, “We have Abraham for our father,” because, I tell you, God can raise children for Abraham from these stones. Even now the axe is laid to the roots of the trees, so that any tree which fails to produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown on the fire. I baptise you in water for repentance, but the one who follows me is more powerful than I am, and I am not fit to carry his sandals; he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing-fan is in his hand; he will clear his threshing-floor and gather his wheat into the barn; but the chaff he will burn in a fire that will never go out.’

   The Second Sunday of Advent presents us John the Baptist at the shore of the river Jordan, who is teaching us how to wait. He is the patron of Advent. The Gospel shows us about his consistency. He did not know, when the Lord is coming, but he was always awake for that day. 

 

His life and style of behavior were so convicting, that many of men came to ask, how can we change our lives. Apart of that, they received the baptism of conversion.   

That man, the unknown for anybody, except of his disciples, he became a significant sign of the God’s work. The People were thinking that man must have been a servant of the Lord, because his work and life testify about that. 

 

The cousin of Jesus Christ, John the Baptist has become a guideline for us, as well, how to experience Advent. As we heard last Sunday, we need to be ready for the second coming of Christ and the celebration of his birth. It’s a proper time to prepare my mind, heart and soul for God. What is so crucial, to show people, I am waiting for someone, who is so important. The zeal and authenticity of John drew people to him and the Lord. 

 

We need to testify about Advent, this is the key time for me, because I am waiting for the Lord, who has given me the real meaning of my life. 

 

The determination of mine may draw other people, who can think, if they try experience this time so hardly, so they are so determinate to do a lot of for God. 

 

Someone may ask himself, they work with love to God, maybe I should do the same? 

 

Let us try like St. John the Baptist to draw people for the Lord, trough the authentic experience of Advent in my life. Amen.

W owym czasie pojawił się Jan Chrzciciel i głosił na Pustyni Judzkiej te słowa: «Nawracajcie się, bo bliskie jest królestwo niebieskie». Do niego to odnosi się słowo proroka izajasza, gdy mówi: "Głos wołającego na pustyni: Przygotujcie drogę Panu, dla Niego prostujcie ścieżki!" Sam zaś Jan nosił odzienie z sierści wielbłądziej i pas skórzany około bioder, a jego pokarmem były szarańcza i miód leśny. Wówczas ciągnęły do niego Jerozolima oraz cała Judea i cała okolica nad Jordanem. Przyjmowano od niego chrzest w rzece Jordan, wyznając swoje grzechy. A gdy widział, że przychodziło do chrztu wielu spośród faryzeuszów i saduceuszów, mówił im: "Plemię żmijowe, kto wam pokazał, jak uciec przed nadchodzącym gniewem? Wydajcie więc godny owoc nawrócenia, a nie myślcie, że możecie sobie mówić: „Abrahama mamy za ojca”, bo powiadam wam, że z tych kamieni może Bóg wzbudzić dzieci Abrahamowi. Już siekiera jest przyłożona do korzenia drzew. Każde więc drzewo, które nie wydaje dobrego owocu, zostaje wycięte i wrzucone w ogień. Ja was chrzczę wodą dla nawrócenia; lecz Ten, który idzie za mną, mocniejszy jest ode mnie; ja nie jestem godzien nosić Mu sandałów. On was chrzcić będzie Duchem Świętym i ogniem. Ma on wiejadło w ręku i oczyści swój omłot: pszenicę zbierze do spichlerza, a plewy spali w ogniu nieugaszonym".

   Druga Niedziela Adwentu przedstawia nam Jana Chrzciciela nad brzegiem Jordanu, który uczy nas czekania. Jest patronem Adwentu. Ewangelia ukazuje nam jego konsekwencję. Nie wiedział, kiedy Pan przyjdzie, ale zawsze był czujny na ten dzień.

 

Jego życie i styl zachowania były tak przekonujące, że wielu ludzi przychodziło z pytaniem, jak możemy zmienić swoje życie. Oprócz tego otrzymywali chrzest nawrócenia.

Ten człowiek, nieznany nikomu poza uczniami, stał się znaczącym znakiem Bożego działania. Ludzie sadzili, że te człowiek musi być sługą Pana, bo świadczy o tym jego praca i życie.

 

Kuzyn Jezusa Chrystusa, Jan Chrzciciel, stał się także dla nas drogowskazem, jak przeżywać Adwent. Jak słyszeliśmy w ubiegłą niedzielę, musimy być gotowi na powtórne przyjście Chrystusa i świętowanie Jego narodzin. To właściwy czas, aby przygotować mój umysł, serce i duszę dla Boga. Co jest tak ważne, to aby pokazać ludziom świadectwo mojego życia, czekam na kogoś, kto jest tak ważny. Gorliwość i autentyczność Jana przyciągały ludzi do niego i do Pana.

 

Musimy dać świadectwo o Adwencie, że to dla mnie kluczowy czas, bo czekam na Pana, który nadał mi prawdziwy sens mojego życia.

 

Moja determinacja może przyciągnąć innych ludzi, którzy mogą pomyśleć, skoro tak bardzo inni starają się przeżyć ten czas, więc oni są tak zdeterminowani, by uczynić wiele dla Boga.

 

Ktoś może zadać sobie pytanie, oni pracują z miłością dla Boga, może ja powinienem zrobić to samo?

 

Starajmy się jak św. Jan Chrzciciel przyciągać ludzi do Pana poprzez autentyczne doświadczenie Adwentu w moim życiu. Amen.
