John 13:1-15

Now he showed how perfect his love was

It was before the festival of the Passover, and Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to pass from this world to the Father. He had always loved those who were his in the world, but now he showed how perfect his love was.

  They were at supper, and the devil had already put it into the mind of Judas Iscariot son of Simon, to betray him. Jesus knew that the Father had put everything into his hands, and that he had come from God and was returning to God, and he got up from table, removed his outer garment and, taking a towel, wrapped it round his waist; he then poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel he was wearing. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, ‘Lord, are you going to wash my feet?’ Jesus answered, ‘At the moment you do not know what I am doing, but later you will understand.’ ‘Never!’ said Peter ‘You shall never wash my feet.’ Jesus replied, ‘If I do not wash you, you can have nothing in common with me.’ ‘Then, Lord,’ said Simon Peter ‘not only my feet, but my hands and my head as well!’ Jesus said, ‘No one who has taken a bath needs washing, he is clean all over. You too are clean, though not all of you are.’ He knew who was going to betray him, that was why he said, ‘though not all of you are.’

  When he had washed their feet and put on his clothes again he went back to the table. ‘Do you understand’ he said ‘what I have done to you? You call me Master and Lord, and rightly; so I am. If I, then, the Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you should wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example so that you may copy what I have done to you.’

   This evening we start celebration the three the most important days of the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Trough 40 days of Lent, we have prepared our souls and hearts for the peak of Christian's Feast, which is the Saint Paschal Triduum. The three days contain the whole History of Salvation.

Maundy Thursday, the day of the Last Supper, Jesus Christ was gathered with his disciples at one table to have the Passover Meal, fulfilling the Jewish Religion Custom. But during this meal, it was happened something more. He gave them an order, which was something a new, the order of love and the Sacrament of Eucharist. 

Instituting Eucharist, beforehand Jesus Christ washed the feet of the Apostles, and after that said, "take this and eat it... take this and drink it... do this in memory of me". These two situations were almost concurrent, what indicates on, this is very important. Jesus Christ says, we cannot split the order of Eucharist from our daily life. 

"Do this in memory of me". It means, do this (repeat the Last Supper), today. Church is obeying to Christ and repeats his will of Mass, today. As members of the Church, we should do the same. "Do this in memory of me", indicates on needing celebration Mass every day, especially on Sunday, to receive Holy Communion. God gives not a man this order. It is not excuse that it was 2000 years ago, but it was done with the authority of Christ. Unfortunately, couple weeks yet ago, many people neglected Sunday's Mass saying, I have no time, I stay at home, praying, considering that this the same. 

But Jesus Christ's words have physically meaning, "this is my Body and Blood, eat it and drink it". 

Another issue of today's feast is my spiritual disposition. The cleaning of the feet, contains a sign of participation at the Table of God, which is Eucharist. We should be pure. I am thinking about the state of sanctifying grace. Christ showed, washing feet, beforehand you need to be pure, receiving Holy Communion. 

Again, this is not human's idea, but God's. The Body and Blood of Christ are the precious gift and treasure of the Church, the biggest sanctities, so a man having grave sin cannot receive Holy Communion, and first he should go for confession. 

Pope Francis said, nobody who is in the sate of mortal sin can take the Body of Christ, and first he has to go for confession. 

This is something more than respect to God, it is responsibility for the Body and Blood of God. Again, unfortunately many people forgot about it. 

These circumstances encourage us to think about it, when we suffer hunger of Eucharist. 

 God on these days of spiritual and Eucharistic fast puts a question, how I receive Holy Communion? My heart is pure, or not? This question is well-based, when many people took the Body of Christ for granted. 

May today's day, full of deep meaning, burn us yet more our sensitivity for Eucharist, to receive Holy Communion often and having the state of sanctifying grace. Amen.

Było to przed Świętem Paschy. Jezus wiedząc, że nadeszła Jego godzina przejścia z tego świata do Ojca, umiłowawszy swoich na świecie, do końca ich umiłował. W czasie wieczerzy, gdy diabeł już nakłonił serce Judasza Iskarioty syna Szymona, aby Go wydać, wiedząc, że Ojciec dał Mu wszystko w ręce oraz że od Boga wyszedł i do Boga idzie, wstał od wieczerzy i złożył szaty. A wziąwszy prześcieradło nim się przepasał. Potem nalał wody do miednicy. I zaczął umywać uczniom nogi i ocierać prześcieradłem, którym był przepasany. Podszedł więc do Szymona Piotra, a on rzekł do Niego: Panie, Ty chcesz mi umyć nogi? Jezus mu odpowiedział: Tego, co Ja czynię, ty teraz nie rozumiesz, ale później będziesz to wiedział. Rzekł do Niego Piotr: Nie, nigdy mi nie będziesz nóg umywał. Odpowiedział mu Jezus: Jeśli cię nie umyję, nie będziesz miał udziału ze Mną. Rzekł do Niego Szymon Piotr: Panie, nie tylko nogi moje, ale i ręce, i głowę. Powiedział do niego Jezus: Wykąpany potrzebuje tylko nogi sobie umyć, bo cały jest czysty. I wy jesteście czyści, ale nie wszyscy. Wiedział bowiem, kto Go wyda, dlatego powiedział: Nie wszyscy jesteście czyści. A kiedy im umył nogi, przywdział szaty i znów zajął miejsce przy stole, rzekł do nich: Czy rozumiecie, co wam uczyniłem? Wy Mnie nazywacie Nauczycielem i Panem i dobrze mówicie, bo nim jestem. Jeżeli więc Ja, Pan i Nauczyciel, umyłem wam nogi, to i wyście powinni sobie nawzajem umywać nogi. Dałem wam bowiem przykład, abyście i wy tak czynili, jak Ja wam uczyniłem.

   Tego wieczoru rozpoczynamy świętowanie trzech najważniejszych dni, Męki i Zmartwychwstania Jezusa Chrystusa. Przez 40 dni Wielkiego Postu przygotowaliśmy nasze dusze i serca na szczyt Święta Chrześcijan, którym jest Triduum Paschalne. Te dni zawierają całą Historię Zbawienia.

W Wielki Czwartek, w dzień Ostatniej Wieczerzy, Jezus Chrystus zgromadził się ze swoimi uczniami przy jednym stole, aby zjeść Paschę, spełniając obyczaj religii żydowskiej. Ale podczas tego posiłku stało się coś więcej. Dał im przykazanie, które było czymś nowym, nakaz miłości.

Ustanawiając Eucharystię, wcześniej Jezus Chrystus umył nogi Apostołów, a potem powiedział: „bierzcie i jedzcie… weźcie wypijcie… czyńcie to na moją pamiątkę”. Te dwie sytuacje były  zbieżne ze sobą. Jezus Chrystus mówi, że nie możemy oddzielić porządku Eucharystii od naszego codziennego życia.

„Czyńcie to na Moją pamiątkę, oznacza to, powtarzajcie Ostatnią Wieczerzę, dziś. Kościół jest  posłuszny Chrystusowi i czyni wolę Chrystusa. Jako członkowie Kościoła powinniśmy robić to samo. „Czyńcie to na moją pamiątkę”, wskazuje na potrzebę codziennej Mszy Świętej, szczególnie w niedzielę, by przyjąć Komunię Świętą. 

Nie jest żadnym usprawiedliwieniem, że to miało miejsce 2000 lat temu, ale taka jest wola Jezusa Chrystusa. Niestety jeszcze kilka tygodni temu wiele osób zaniedbało Mszę niedzielną, mówiąc: „Nie ma czasu, zostaję w domu, modląc się, biorąc pod uwagę, że to samo.

Ale słowa Jezusa Chrystusa mają znaczenie tu i teraz: „to jest moje Ciało i Krew, jedzcie i pijcie”.

Kolejną kwestią dzisiejszego święta jest moje usposobienie duchowe. Obmywanie stóp zawiera znak uczestnictwa przy Stole Bożym, którym jest Eucharystia. Powinniśmy być czyści. Myślę o stanie łaski uświęcającej. Chrystus pokazał, obmywając stopy, wcześniej musisz być czysty, przyjmując Komunię Świętą.

Znów nie jest to idea ludzka, ale Boża. Ciało i Krew Chrystusa są cennym darem i skarbem Kościoła, największymi świętościami, więc człowiek mający ciężki grzech nie może przyjąć Komunii Świętej, uprzednio powinien iść do spowiedzi.

Papież Franciszek powiedział: nikt, kto jest w stanie grzechu śmiertelnego, nie może przyjąć Ciała Chrystusa, a najpierw musi iść do spowiedzi.

To coś więcej niż szacunek dla Boga, to odpowiedzialność za Ciało i Krew Boga. Znów niestety wiele osób o tym zapomniało.

Okoliczności te zachęcają nas do pomyślenia o tym, gdy odczuwamy głód Eucharystii.

 Bóg w dniach postu duchowego i eucharystycznego stawia pytanie, jak przyjmuję Komunię Świętą? Moje serce jest czyste, czy nie. To pytanie jest uzasadnione, gdy wiele osób uważało przyjmowanie Ciała Chrystusa za coś oczywistego bez rachunku sumienia i pytania, czy ja jestem w stanie łaski uświęcającej, by przyjać Komunię Świętą.

Niech dzisiejszy dzień, pełen głębokiego znaczenia, jeszcze bardziej rozpali naszą wrażliwość na Eucharystię, by często przyjmować Komunię Świętą w stanie łaski uświęcającej. Amen.
